You can't seriously be trying to justify an hour-long sham trial of "/ME BIG DICKS ON YOU.... STEPS ON YOUR NECK... BEATS YOU... HOW DARE YOU TALK BACK TO ME.." that was sorted OOC beforehand but overruled only to do said RP, right?

Gomez walked into an RP situation instantly after flagging up, started chatting shit and didn't like getting clapped back at lmao. That's literally what started this two days ago, it was stupid as fuck and nothing was gained by anyone except the people who got to flex.

After reading this, I totally agree with all the points you made. I believe that if you truly want to make an Evil character, it should be your actions and not your words that make your character evil. One cannot simply go yell at a citizen for spilling a cup of coffee and then go and sit down and let a CCA member cry into their shoulder.
The issue I've personally seen is that some people who wish to play die-hard evil characters only act evil when it has no consequence. But when an opportunity presents itself to act evil WITH consequence, I've seen that some people will back out and be nice to people please them. I think that if you really want to make an evil character, be evil to everyone. But we should also note that it is pretty typical for CCA players to play bad antagonists. There are only 2 sides I see. The Bad Hardliner, and the overly nice agents. The people between those usually don't get to see higher positions of power.

Of course, someone can wear a mask of being a good person on the outside but being terrible on the inside. Thing is, it has to be done well.
For Civil Protection, I think there is no excuse to play an evil HICOM character because "Uh...hurr dur.. he hates everyone cuz his gf was killed by vorts" And then soon after going outside without an escort to harass the one Biotic in Plaza that is minding his business, and then get mad at the units who don't immediately join in. And finally going into IC comms and making an official announcement that all Biotics need to be deserviced and brought back to the Nexus, effectively killing a faction just because C24/UU.SeC-BLOOD.892 doesn't like vorts very much.
But what can you really do about people like that, especially if they're a high-ranking staff member? Not much.
If you decide to go against them, you'll probably be punished.

TLDR:
If you wanna be evil, be actually evil and not do unwarrented evil things because you have the authority.

Something that's been bugging me about this place for a long time, but only came to a head recently. Be warned, I will be crass:

Why is there this pervasive dumbfuck pants-on-head retarded notion that grips every aspect of this hl2rp server's IC bureaucracy that the best way to portray a """dystopia""" is to act like actual 13 year old cartoon villains and abuse their positions to go on personal power trips on their 'subordinates' for no other reason than pulling off stale acts of pointless sadism?

Can you people seriously not do better than this? Is a modicum of nuance to your character motives & behavior too much for you? Are some of you genuinely so delusional that you think anyone in your presence enjoys spending OOC hours being subjected to stuff like

I believe in tastefulness and I believe in player empathy; I believe people who play powerful characters have a huge responsibility to make sure that the players they interact with actually enjoy being imposed on by them to some extent, that the 'way' this power is exercised implies some basic respect for the player on the other end and their time & enjoyment. I have held various very powerful IC positions across my time playing hl2rp in general (CPs, gang leaders, administrators, literally everything tbh) and every single time i've stuck to this simple principle and received nothing but praise from the people that I was otherwise actively fucking over ICly - so I'm not simply talking out of my ass or crying because I got hit with the big authority stick recently. These are my genuine beliefs, and I strongly feel the people with IC power on willard lack these qualities for the most part, and it's an issue that starts with elements of the upper rung of Combine leadership and trickles down to the CPs themselves, which occasionally creates complaints around their behavior, but truth be told, I've come to see them as blameless; their only fault at the end of the day is following examples set to them by their superiors.


This server's been slowly losing the draw and influence it once had as is. Maybe its time to re-evaluate some age old practices and why they don't work; there is a reason hl2rp servers aren't run with the same cartoonish edginess that they used to be in early 2010s. It simply isn't sustainable. Players like to feel oppressed, not actually BE oppressed - the latter isn't fun for anyone except masochists and people with dormant sub fetishes. Know the difference and start toeing that fine line between the two before you keep losing players to your own childish power fantasies. Start writing better villains with more nuanced ways of oppressing the populace while still giving individual characters breathing room to portray their own mannerisms without trying to reduce them to your personal platonic fucktoys.

I won't be using HL2RP or anything role-play community euphemisms because that just defeats the whole point of your post. You have every right to feel mad, disgusted, personally violated or even indignant at the fact you feel there is an issue with the way the interaction was both implemented and executed. In this regards thank you for caring.

It would make your life very much so easier if you didn't take any of this seriously. Communities rise and fall because of individuals like yourself feeling as though the point you're trying to make isn't being heard but I bet you made this post because you felt angered and was filled with a self-righteous fire that burned and burned. It's what happens when you join the Navy Seals and turn SWAT. I don't treat your issue as one that's a big deal but you do and if I fail to convey I empathize it's probably because you read it, felt a moment of nodding to someone agreeing, then promptly became confused again as you read on.

Except it was specifically sorted OOC because the Vice Administrator (who these authed characters answer to) agreed OOC it was a dumb situation - because they weren't meant to get involved with other authorities to begin with to avoid drama - only for the HC's to specifically overrule that and drag ARK's character into an hour-long "meeting" about it which was actually the Overseer and Gomez tag-teaming her with "UR A RAT!!!! SCUM!!!!" and beating her up lol.

If you can give me a reason that was neccesary beyond wanting to write out torture, then by all means, because I'm not seeing it and I'm not the only one.

Bearing in mind, again, this started because ARK's character asked a CP about a channel to share information efficently and Gomez logged on and walked to the situation to start fucking with things, then got upset when ARK responded with the most tepid clapback ever and refused to apologise.

It reminds me of when my character got sent to rehab for a week in-game but oocly I couldn't return until the 30th. My dumb ass thought it was the 20th and it began on the 16th so I just got on, got a CP and a Scanner on me and I pretty much got told very courteously that I could just give the excuse I was released on good behavior.
I didn't get beaten. Tazed. Stunned. Arrested. Or kicked in the no no space. It was just "Hey, yeah, I think that was way too long of a OOC time to be not letting you come on, it's fine if you just use the reasoning that you were released because of so and so."

I know you feel I'm being condescending to you because I'm trying to both not invest myself into this community in body, mind, and soul but I am being genuine when I say you're acting upon chemicals sending signals to your brain that tells you as you read these words that I am looking down upon you from a perceived throne of smug trolling.

I assure you this is just how I talk on a day to day basis to other individuals that I also genuinely care about; a number which dwindled by the day as my years as a Navy Seal turned SWAT dries up my will to live.

At a basic level, my problem with evil characters tends to be that players will only be evil when it suits them, but not really understand the general implication that has on the character as a whole. For example, on I17 I saw two CP's begin to torture a guy out in the middle of public space. I don't remember exactly what the process was, but I believe they nearly drowned him in a dirty pool of water thrice. Proceeded to beat the shit out of him, forced him to drink the dirty water, then did something else I can't for the life of me recall. By the time they were done, the left him on the street with a bucket over his head.

That was my loyalist and this happens over and over, And quite frankly I myself and I know some of the other retired/reserve MAA Have gotten sick and tired of having their characters pulled aside for no reason other than "Lol conscript" and beaten the shit out of, None likes constantly rping being beaten to a pulp and I know a few of my colleagues have quit playing all together over this shit not to mention the state of the server as of lately. If those characters were underclass or fucked that cops wife that's another thing, But they see medals or just the person and attack them like pitbulls and there's nothing we can do.

Resist why don't you? Well can't really do that either one person does the whole faction undergoes intense scrutiny and possibly dissolved, There are individuals itching for an excuse to dissolve the MAA Just itching, Truth is not everyone wants to rp being a citizen who owns a shop and has to grind either end of the spectrum for weeks on end only to either get an ass kicking from CP's daily or Be killed by a Snitch/Other rebels.

Most of this shit feels more and more oocly motivated to most of us.
