I think CP's forget they are the bad guys...

I’m trying to change the narrative a lot myself, during the whole metro arc I think I’ve saved about a dozen lives, always made sure to capture people instead of instantly end their life no questions asked and even made some loyalist friends and a CCA member as a friend.

But there’s so many people who just want to kill kill kill that it’s almost impossible and u can’t even change their mind.

For example the whole bandit leader shit, I was interrogating her and people kept intervening and slapping her whatever and threatening me that if I set her free they’d kill me or whatever. So I just took them to my own room with my own gang who let me do my thing and we figured out who they were, their intentions and everything together with the CPs

But it’s really annoying that some people still don’t want to rp and just try to kill everyone instantly
Honestly, it's a refreshing sight, as someone that's played both rebel and CP, the RP is lacking in quite a lot of places, and though everyone is quick to point fingers at the rebels, it's only fair to highlight the same in the CP, though it's not quite as bad, there are still moments where I've found gaps, but let's not go on a witch-hunt, fact is, there's always going to be players on both sides that prefer combating the other side, it's a reality we just have to accept, as there's technically nothing wrong with that, though I do implore both sides, just roleplay with each other more, both the opposing side, and your comrades, back on my first rebel char, I didn't get into combat once, yet I had a pretty good time on my char, just interacting with people, running food drives, and sabotaging combine infrastructure, and on my CP, yes I've been in combat a few times, but it's pretty unavoidable on our side due to IC implications, but regardless of that, I've spent a lot of time having meaningful interactions with my cohorts, and his current behaviours means it's going to probably stretch to others too

I will chime in just for fun

On that note - For both rebels and CP's...

You are, taken as a royal whole, both quite sinister.

I think this weird OOC mentality of who is right is kind of weird when taken to this unironic meta level. Where its not so much a fun discussion, but some weird self-gratifying stamp of approval either side may seek. That's why I think its important for us to consider, both sides, are honestly pretty shitty people (overall)

Willard isn't base HL2 and it never has been. In some ways, this is good. In (most) other ways, its bad. But, one of the good aspects of this is that we can actually have something called Moral Ambiguity. I mean, hell, even base HL2 has hints of this present. Breen is either a narcissistic, power hungry maniac who may have even started the cascade intentionally, or he's the sole link currently keeping mankind from falling into fates far worse than the one he can barely scrape out for their own 'benefit.' Lets not forget our boy Barney either. You think he got to the position of running a checkpoint by handing out candy to civilians? No, he's clocked heads and maybe even severed threads more than once.

Before being the 'good' guy or the 'bad' guy - just be a quality character. That's what keeps the server interesting. Having every CP be Robocop #1321 isn't interesting nor fun. Forcing every single rebel to be John Goodman, savior of all, can get boring.

I mean shit, look at the current arc. Functional flaws aside the narrative itself literally screams, by design, of this moral obscurity. Each side does shitty things in order to triumph over the other. There are lights within the darkness of the Combines thralls and darkness within the freedom fighters that oppose them.

A good quote for this, that I can think of, comes from Better Call Saul:

"I've known good criminals and bad cops. Bad priests, honorable thieves. You can be on one side of the law or the other but if you make a deal with somebody you keep your word. You can go home today with your money and never do this again but you took something that wasn't yours and you sold it for a profit, you're now a criminal. Good one, bad one, that's up to you."

If I were to play a CP, my kind of Willard CP is neither friend nor foe to the average civilian.

Some CP's were straight up insulting, mocking, threatening and beating Ministers during the arc. They're definitely still the bad guys, overall.

I don’t mean it as a CP has to be mean kinda way.

More of a people should stop crying about rebels for example blowing up smth, or attacking cops or whatever. Since the CP’s and the Combine are the bad guys.

Why should they "stop crying"? There will always be people who would surrender their species. Any war ever proves that. These are just things us rebels have to keep in mind imo.

Or just stop caring about what people think and do your thing.

On another topic, I find the idea that someone is OOCly justifying bombing civilian infrastructure because "Combine are evil" extremely funny. It almost reaches caricature levels.

At least the things I've blown up were Combine shit like the nexus generators and the CWU Warehouse

Rebels: 'we are not the bad guys'
Also rebels: *terrorist bombings*

Anyway, I do not believe there is such a thing as good guys or bad guys when talking about Combine vs Rebels. Both are deep into the dark grey area (at least within HL2RP, rebels are far from the good guys).

And the main reason most Combine players complain about such stuff usually stems from the fact they got a lot of rules in place that prevents them from (per-emptively) going after the rebels. When you are forced to sit and endure these attacks without being allowed to properly attack back it does make you kind of feel like unfair target practice. Remember that CPs are players too, and are here to have fun as much as the rebels are.

you call it terrorist bombings, i call it revolutionary guerilla warfare.

if you want people to like rebels icly start making propoganda! The MOE has a big headstart on you guys

Propaganda doesn’t work on hl2rp loyalists, they are OOCly dead set on remaining a loyalist cus they probably spent 3 months of their time getting a number from 100 to 200 and don’t wanna do it again in the event they’re found out to hate combine

Plus ICly they fall for the most obvious of fake newspapers. MOE could post an article like ‘REBEL COMMANDO BREAKS INTO ECHELON FACILITY AND KILLS 2,000 CHILDREN’ and loyalists would be like ‘goddamn rebels… I knew Combine were the good guys…’

I mean, MOE doesn't even need to make up a story.

I can guarantee the MoE has never lied, ever.

Only the truest* of stories for the truest of Citizens

*Truth is a property of MoE and thus can be changed at any given moment, refer to terms and conditions

Also that sort of generalization works both ways.

"Rebels are OOCly dead set on remaining Rebels cus they probably spent 3 months of their time grinding for their gear."

Generalization is bad kids... Except when it's funny and/or suits your views.
