Willard Networks is compromised of a large playerbase with many talented and dedicated players. In an effort to praise the community and encourage good manners.

I would like you to nominate your favourite characters created by a player by a total of 5. Write a short summary of how and why you think these characters are your favourites?

These doesn't have to be in a specific order and should be seen as equal in why you like them. Divide the nominees into two sections, those from the main WN server and Short-Stories.

Do not nominate characters you have created, only those created by others. Let them nominate you!

Example below!

My nominations

WN Main

Gustavo 'Gus' Baldo
played by Travis

An Italian gypsy involved in illicit dealings of the criminal underworld and the black market. Torn between his two identities, as a law-abiding citizen and shoprunner, and an illicit arms-dealer only caring about himself and those closest Despite his outward characteristics and objections to any resistance against the Combine; his selfishness would develop into a martyrship. As time strove forth and possibly influenced by close-friends and the reality of his surroudings. Gus would come to sympathize with the Resistance and eventually die fighting against the Combine in Industrial Seventeen Event. Buried beneath the sand of the shores, where the sun sets upon his grave every morning.

Arthur 'Red' Lancaster
played by Travis

Part of the Texan diaspora in City 24, Geneva. Arthur Lancaster is a man of many things. A tough up-bringing and a harsh life has molded 'Red' into a hedonistic nihilist. Unable to escape his past, he dwells into the dealings of the criminal underground of City 24; seeking fortune from the expense of others. Despite this, his softer side is revealed to those he cares about. Especially those who'm he stands close to, some he even knew before the occupation who now find themselves in the same situation as himself. Torn between his reluctance to resist, believing it to be a hopeless cause; and the fact that he believes there might be an inch hope has made him into a complex character. Switching between greed and generousity in his dealings, he aids civilians as well as combatants actively fighting against the regime. In a most perculiar way, he developed a deep bond to a tribe of Vortigaunts, finding much of himself in their way of life; he'd eventually embark to live with them.

Will fill out the rest of my personal nominees! Go ahead and reply below, listing characters and their creator you would like to commend!

Scav/Andres played by @Leon was a good character in my opinion. My interactions with him on my CP character & my rebel character were both very satisfying.

As a rebel, Dev & Scav started off on very neutral terms. They found each other to be good friends through fighting a huge bullsquid together (played by @Keyblockor I'm pretty sure!). They ended up becoming quite close allies, as they are both Catholic, and Scav's death sent Dev down a depression spiral.

As a CP, Lysa & Scav spoke a lot about philosophy & morality. Deep down, they knew they were on opposite sides, but on the surface, they were able to at the very least form a connection beyond the typical CP Rebel interactions.

Definitely my favorite character, Ulysses Nathius, played by me.

Main Server

City Twenty-Four
District 43

Michael Hoxworth

The one Collaborator whom you could always speak of in confidence when it came to earning the armband. He was always there, acting as the face of the shadowy Jack Knight, running the Worker's Union in his stead. But unlike the expectations of a standard high-tiered Collaborator, he had that familiar, friendly aura around him when you got to know him. Plus, he was always down to play poker.

At some point, you could barely even think of the CWU without imagining Hox's face. He was one of the "troupe" - people you could always see walking around the warehouse. Just like Raymond Saint Albert and Alex Weaver.

Of course, since the first few times God failed to kill him, he would eventually try it himself. But that failed too, thanks to the diligent folks of the I-17 CWU. Eventually, it'd be only the harsh reality of the Alaskan madness that managed to do him in. Even then, they say the first few days after the survivors got back, a few Civil Protection units mourned the loss of a good friend, and an even better drinker buddy.

His death hidden from public, Hox was written to have transferred to hide the real, solemn fate of a man many people got to know real well. One thing for certain though - the CWU will never find another man like Michael Hoxworth.

Hoxworth, what a legend... I don't think he needs much explanation. Those who know, well, they know. I've gotten to interact with him quite a few times on my characters, and all of them were pretty great. Here's one to @Garratz for making a guy I'll never quite forget.

Alex Weaver

Alex Weaver, or Pops, as he liked to be called, was the rare breed of an old, yet fully functional man, who saw enough to fill two lifetimes, yet still kept going. One could've hardly imagined the CWU of District 43 without his presence.

Always there to help his fellow friends in need and to give them a piece of good, sound advise. And best of all, he wasn't one of those "sit by and watch" types. He knew when action was needed, and always knew how to achieve the better outcome for everybody.

Never was it more evident than his tenure in Alaska, where, after being chosen as an Overseer, he constantly helped ease the tensions between camps. When he fell, many believed it was the end of the good old Pops, but fate had another surprise in store.

It was the great Vortigaunts, Chappy included, who helped revive him, making for quite a story in the progress. It was most unfortunate that it was the hand of man that took his life a second time - a shabby attack in the slums.

Perhaps it was for the best. The Combine never knew that Weaver was helping the Rebels, aiding the Hospital in the slums in more ways than one. To this day, he is remembered with fondness by both the Resistance and the Combine alike - a trait most uncommon. May he live on in the lives of those he impacted, even if they don't remember it.

No need to explain anything here. Alex Weaver is the G.O.A.T. of Willard. @translated_iron did an amazing job, and I hope he knows it.

GRID-5
C24:i3.LINE-3 says: <:: Why do you have... ::>
C24:i3.LINE-3 says: <:: Broken glass. ::>
C24:i3.LINE-3 says: <:: Inside the medical supplies? ::>
C24:i2.GRID-5 says: <:: I dunno. ::>

Most people think that being a medic makes you at least a somewhat moral person. Well, they evidently haven't taken a single step into the Trauma Care Unit of Civil Protection, home to the most of the psychopathic cops in the Precinct. One of them is a man with quite a lengthy story to tell.

Earning his way from the bottom, GRID-5 earned a bit of a reputation for being a no-nonsense, no-idiocy unit with quite a hatred of mouth-runners. Always being on patrol with one member of the Quick Reaction Force, the duo wrecked havoc on any spelunker dumb enough to go on the street with trash in their pockets.

Hell, not even underground were they safe. Despite the constant destruction of the turrets stationed at Hard-Point One, it was always this specific pair of units that came down there to put them back up again. It was like they had nothing better to do... Which was true, to an extent, to at least one of them.

As one of the Rank Leaders, STICK-4, departed from the Precinct, GRID-5 was thought to have rightfully earned the spot of the Rank Leader. With this came a new set of duties, and the citizen beating duo had to eventually depart when one of them was transferred to District 9.

Of course, they would meet again down the line, but all the more different. The old GRID-5 has advanced even higher, now serving less of a boogeyman to the general populace, and more to the units themselves. At the very least, there will never will be another VICTOR-4...

Good old GRID-5. You can't spend a month patrolling with someone without liking them. So, @Ozzekiel, good job on making one of the most coolest Units I've ever had the pleasure of knowing.

Also, thank the Container Reset. Otherwise that Indigent ambush would've been the end of this pretty touching story.

VICE-7

...But TCU was not completely filled with psychopaths. One of them stood out like a sore thumb - a extremely moral Unit. Burdened by the weighting brutality of Civil Protection, he never gave under it, choosing instead, in true medical fashion, to treat the disease from the core.

Serving as a moral guardian to all of the Precinct's Units, he was there not only to treat their physical injuries, but also mental ones. A genius in the field of medicine, it was little trouble - the ties to the Medical Union helped, too.

Of course, it was not a thankless job. A certain Officer from the Quick Reaction Force never quite saw eye to eye with the good doctor, and always made sure to make it known. But even despite his attitude, VICE-7 was always there to offer him a word when he needed it most, even if it was all fruitless.

Eventually, after the disaster of the Auxiliary program, he transferred to a place far away, although some say a good few Units never got over the exodus and send him frequent letters. A lot of letters. In the end, only serving as proof that one man can bring immeasurable difference to the world, even if they are clad in a gas mask.

@Vulpes Callida will always be my G.O.A.T. of Civil Protection, and so will his character. Here's hoping VICE-7 is having a nice time, far away from bad influences of JUDGE-1 and LINE-3, even if he can't help it.

JUDGE-2

...Coincidentally, not every Quick Reaction Force Unit was a psychopath either. Well, everybody but this one, probably. What can be said has likely already been said by a Unit long over-due on a counseling session. Several, in-fact.

And in this case, perhaps the full story is too lengthy to discuss in detail. Too many events to remember, too many Officers outlived, too many close encounters with the grim reaper.

And while the wicked shall get no rest, and this Unit might forever be stuck in PTs with total downers, perhaps the few happy memories will outshine the bleakness of this years-old service. They might be extremely humorous memories, like ones of falling down the stairs, repeatedly, or sitting in a room above a Checkpoint a bit too often for comfort, with nothing much to talk about.

But such is the nature of memories, always too strange in hindsight. At the very least, someone out there will remember a good few of them, even the nasty parts like the trenches, or the simulation, or the jokes about styling hair...

After all, someone has to.

Thanks @Ekrell for overcoming the dreaded pitfall of making a boring robocop, and instead delivering one of the most memorable coppers of all time. Big thumbs up, and keep earning those credits for the retirement fund.

Short-Stories

INDUSTRIAL-17
(technically not a short-stories event but bugger off alright?)

Alex Scherbina

They say there's an extreme workaholic in the Industrial 17's branch of CWU. A man who will stop at nothing to make sure the laborers work every single day at the most ingenious workshifts. They also say he was there when Grace Joy became an administrator, that he witnessed the destruction of the Vuente Cartel firsthand, and that he personally beaten a couple dozen rebellious ravers with his signature crowbar. But that can't be true, can it?

Well, fact of the matter is, he definitely was there during Joy's ascension, and he definitely did see the downfall of the Vuente family. But so did the other two men who were always in quite a close proximity to him. Hell, they say labourers back then jumped like dogs for a treat when they saw the legendary trio of Alex Scherbina, Matthew Harrison and Edward Riggs - a sign that not all hope for work is yet finished, and that one can expect another bunch of workshifts coming up later in the day.

Of course, with Harrison's abrupt disappearance, and Riggs' strange re-appearance as a Collaborator-turned-Minister, one can only imagine what Scherbina has been up to in the last year. Perhaps he became the CWU Director after Ray Vega? Nobody can tell for certain, until they travel to I-17 for an industrial vacation, of course.

Not much to say. I love this character and am quite saddened that he never managed to transfer to the Main Server. Good job on @GopnikPizzafox for making the dude so likable, and also big condolences for Scherbina's "incident" with the cops and the gun in that one room. Ouch.

Duo.png
(Unofficial recreation of the olden days)

Reyes Vuente

The head of the Vuente cartel and the only man in the world who could in all honesty say, "I made the CPRD cook meth for me". Dangerous, unpredictable and classy, he observed the workings of the industrial center very closely, all the way up from his cold ivory tower.

Hiring Mr. White to assemble his gang of personal enforcers, he planned to use the newly formed troupe consisting of "Pinkman", "Conrad", "Kafka", "Nikolai" and a mysterious fifth member (whose callsign I definitely did not forget) to extort the stores of the City for protection.

Utilizing Hex and Zima to cook meth for himself in the back of the Baltic Cafe and making shady deals with the rebels, Vuente had full control over his entire network, managing to hide it right under the Combine's eyes... Well, until Keith Ross showed up.

The CWU worker-turned-Rebel-turned-informant-turned-traitor-turned-Combine messiah (?) managed to uncover the entirety of the operation to Overwatch. What followed was a purge like no other. All traces of Vuente's Cartel ceased to exist, and, although city officials claim he died in the crossfire, rumours still persist that the Mob Boss escaped to live another day.

Everything above should explain it. Thank you @Furious for making a based character and viva la cartel.

Matthew Harrison

Have no fear, for Harrison is here. Or, actually, do have fear, for Matthew Harrison has seen the worst of the I-17, and, likely, thought it was far too tame to catch his attention.

Working hard as a CWU worker, and making plenty of connections on the side, Harrison quickly became part of the legendary Red-Shirts of the Worker's Union. Being granted transfer rights to City Twenty-Four certainly made his day, but the fact that he had to part with his nice shoes likely didn't.

But all the better, at least with the whole conspiracy thing with Rey Vega and the murdered Maritime Minister, of which Harrison definitely did not know about and definitely did not disclose any details of to one of his close acquaintances for fun. Now was a time to start a new page.

And so he did, by joining Civil Protection no less. And hell, his close acquaintance was there, too. What luck. Or, at least it seemed that way, until he got into an fight with JUDGE-1, and may have tried to kill him. Alas, to the dismay of every Unit in Precinct 43, he failed. Those who lived to see the doomed Coup in the next year would really wish he didn't.

Matthew Harrison, played by @Divine. was a force of true chaotic evil, which also made him amazingly fun. In fact, now that I think about it, I've never seen characters take such risks, unless they were played by Divine. The world would really be a boring place without guys like Harrison around.

[CODENAME: VENUS]

Mason G. Snake

It was Adam Pozza that met the man in an empty trailer, barely any supplies to speak of. Trying to recollect whether or not any other Arteria members were left alive, they decided that sitting on their asses wouldn't have done them much good, so they made their way further into the City, finding another soldier, Su, on the top of a nearby building.

The trio had eventually endured a brutal zombie encounter in the hotel during a prolonged supply run. Severely outnumbered by the fast necrotics, they had to go from room to room to avoid the full horde. After their escape, they reconnected with the rest of the Arteria forces in the local church, and when the time came to leave for a distant farm, both Pozza and Snake decided to follow the group of the redeemed Minister.

But not all was well. After a surprise attack by Overwatch forces, the now shattered group retreated into the woods. By a stroke of luck, Pozza would reunite with Mason once more. Following a curious discovery of the boat keys and a mysterious man in a Civil Protection suit, the new trio would get into an argument over what to do next when they came upon a functioning helicopter.

Mason was adamant on using the newly found chopper to stage an evacuation, which the suited stranger disapproved of immensely. Pozza was forced to choose between the two extremes, and in the end, went with the man who was there from the beginning...

An easy pick simply because of how my character, Adam Pozza, basically spent the entire event with him, further cemented by the choice given at the end. It would've been simple of the guy to just say "Eh, fuck 'em. Lets get outta here boys.", but he didn't, which I thought was cool.

In the end, it's a shame Pozza went out the way he did. If there's something I would've wanted, it's for him to would've joined Snake in the New Frontiers event, to save the day and redeem himself for the messed up evac in Seattle. Anyhow, good job on @TheMouths for making this dude.

BLACK GOLD

Alex Morgan

The Oil Baron, and the man whom Alexander Gould of the Radio Tower would annoy with questions, constantly. The transfers never really got to know him much, but perhaps it was for the best. At least the radio tirades were somewhat funny.

Of course, he must be commended for his well-timed remarks and supply drops. And after the whole Advisor mind-control thing, you just gotta feel bad for the guy. At least he got his oil, right?

Oh, right. The transfers burned it all to escape.

Merde.

The Oil Baron, played by @Imperator RAD-X , might've been a generic exposition event character, but he was a pretty good one at that. At least I wasn't quite sure whether or not he was a total villain who cared little for the people on the other side of the radio, or at least a bit sympathetic to their tremendous plight and their fallout-esque looting urges.

Administrator Heartwick (Played by Noodle) Had some of the best situational moments with this character.

Jury-2 (Played by Vadim 2022) Such an amazing professional story was developed between his CP and Maesroe. Fun times!

Guy Gibson (Played by Reece) Was one of the first interesting rebel characters I met when I joined WN. Awesome character!

John Walker (Played by Walker) Had the most RP, good and bad times in equal measure. Both Maesroe and John developed intensely with their many hours of interactions!

Eric Bayer (Played by Kappatalist) Met this character on my first WN character. Had a lot of fun being covert when making plans for -!REDACTED!-

So many more characters are worth adding into this, though I would be here all day listing them all lol

Drakk Sanchez - CPRD scientist who kept their humanity intact, He sacrificed himself to stop the deviator gas outbreak in city 8.

Hex Sanchez - Starting off as an antagonist, Hex slowly evolved into more of a hero during the I17 mega-event, he was killed after he worked with rebels to coup the Vuente administration. He was resurrected through the use of deviator gas and became an antagonist during the New Frontiers event.

Lance Shaw - An MAA member who survived the impossible in City 21, he went on to lead the conscripts in the New Frontiers event, doing what he can to keep the peace between the rebels and conscripts.

Administrator Vuente - The corrupt administrator of I17, he had the CPRD make drugs for his cartel. He was an antagonist for everyone in the city, he was eventually couped by Combine loyalists, he escaped and joined the rebels.

Alex Weaver - An ordinary CWU worker that was tasked with leading an outpost in the black gold event, he was the only leader that wasn't murdered day one, he was liked and respected by the workers he was charged with leading. When someone tried assassinating him, a small army of players got together to get antlion extract just to save him. A bunch of people died getting the extract, but they succeeded and managed to save him. Weaver was later killed in a crappy mugging when he got back to the main server.

Artemis - forgotten his OOC name but he ran an underground BMD syndicate. Managed to create dilemmas against citizens who had conflict of interests where they were for both combine and the resistance due to neutrality, while creating jobs for ordinary slum dwellers and creating logistics for trade. Roleplay with them was highly cinematic while managing transfers of items and quests in an authentic way. Generally felt like a war industry dude who would have a group of anonymous guards while passing over a suitcase of weapons to Joe Rebel.

I'm Monika Nemethova's biggest fan fr

Agatha Wolstenholme was an interesting char to interact with as well.

also the lad, VICE-66.

Nikola Ratimiri
Phenomenal character with complex morality (Something seldom found, much to my chagrin). Easily like top 5 favorite characters to interact with. Always fucking fun.

Hugh Mattock (Huge Bottock)
Loyalist who flies under the radar yet manages to show his sympathies despite his efforts to remain undetected. Another phenomenal depthful character who's fun to play with, especially when you get him out of the loyalist mold and see the man beyond the thin veneer of zeal.

JURY-2
First CP officer I actually enjoyed and at times went out of my way to RP with. I think most people know him, surely love him.

Troy Knox/XRAY-7
One of the greatest CP characters probably in existence. Someone who is not merely psychopathy but displays traces of humanity and must actively fight against them to continue his job. Had plenty of awesome interactions with them and despite Pasta not being all that active it's always a treat.

Edward Riggs
Probably viewed as mundane by most but I was always fond of Riggs. He's a man who presents himself as just that: terribly mundane, but when you get to know him and lower his guard there's another man in the city with a great deal of interesting thoughts and grappling with emotions.

Motherfucking William Brown
She's them! Mujahadeen! Classic character from my first few days in Willard. Despite some of the more silly aspects guy who played them could play a seriously believable character who had plenty of really hard hitting moments that few others could match.

Amina Meziane
Haven't even RPed with them that much but phenomenal RPer and a greatly interesting character.

Elias Siemens.
Should go without saying. Elias Siemens was one of like the first five characters I met, back when he just worked at Mirai's. Plenty of great moments.

Probably a few others worthy of a mention that I can't think of off the top of my head
