Can we ban AI altogether from Willard Main?

I do not think I need to go into some massive explanation on why AI should be banned from Willard Main. It's effortless, lacking quality and just overall slop. This is meant to be a place to show off creative output and the least remotely interesting means to even achieve that is through the usage of AI.

This is one example of this. I genuinely don't get what was it not easier to just create a regular reply using your words rather than having to rely on shitty graphics made by a slop AI Data Center.

There is a lot of members that have graphic skills and some of them would surely be kind enough to give you the time of day to help you make stuff if your idea is remotely interesting to them of course! It's the same stuff I did with @Kamilisha Haijulikani where thanks to him I have a lot of material to work for my political party!

Can we stop with the slop? Please and ty!

If you ban AI, then ban getting some google pics from Willard too.
Lets all use paint from now on.

Jokes aside, using AI in creative fields is morally questionable and IMO bad. But to be honest, I work a full time job, I never touched any program for drawing or creating media. I don't have time to put hours into a character which won't get accepted. I don't have any other options, besides pulling some random pictures from google, which is literally as bad as using AI IMO. Either steal shit from google images or create a prompt on AI. If you are so concerned about it go vote left, let them ban the usage of AI and we done.

Besides that, if you are mad that I snitched on people literally scripting everything/putting friends and family into staff positions and doing crazy amount of Meta. You should check your own morals, you play on a server for fun, then get mad if someone reports your wrongdoings. Some of you still use the N-word unironically(ifykyk) and get mad for AI... anyways.

I will continue making fun stuff in willard, idc if im staff or just a player. Im here to make the server better, if many people hate on AI, I won't use it. I refuse to use google pics either, have fun with my paint. Shit is fire

When you have people in the community who are putting a lot of genuine effort into posters, characters art, and so on, it feels rather underwhelming that people still resort to using pure AI for their art endeavours. There are a lot of talented people in this community and I for one do not wish to overshadow their work with AI art.

It really isn't.

At the end of the day, what we're dealing with is mostly a matter of immersion, be it biographies, apps, events, you name it. The fundamental difference between a real image and an AI generated one is the latter pretty much always breaks this immersion. Naturally, this can also happen if we recognise the source of the real image (for example, when someone uses a known celebrity as their character reference), but while we can't know the origin of every place and face in the world, we can easily tell when an image isn't real.

Exhibit B, Random Shithole in St. Petersburg

Now, I don't know about you, but for me, the second image succeeds much more at setting a mood. Personally, I feel it's because I can actually imagine standing there and looking out of the window. With the first image, I don't get that feeling -- it's not an actual place, I can't imagine even turning my head to look around.

In-fact, it's because this immersion that I don't criticise one other particular use of AI on the server, that being the voice acting stuff. The reason is simply that the technology has developed well enough that it doesn't sound too unnatural and thus works to provide immersion (plus, if we're being honest, sound is not that complex [obviously excluding music] and is basically used solely as an instrument of sending a brief message rather than, say, something like writing and imagery [and music]).

P.S. There's a separate matter of immersion in images that isn't based on being strictly real (video games, as an obvious example), but this has more to do with the ability of the author to provide either a believable setting or a strong mood. The problem is that most of the time, AI images fail at the first one, and, by the virtue of being recognised as AI, also fail at the second, since anything you could feel is immediately numbed by the insincerity of its source. In other words, it all boils down to the feeling of being impressed, which is less likely if one knows that there was no effort or time involved.

Ai pic generated ---> Absoloute nuclear war in the Forum. Lock in guys, its not that deep. Move on cuh.

Litreally I had an 3am idea for cool RP in D1 thats it. If any artists of the community got offended by it, I'am sorry. No more AI generated pics again. Im honing my paint skills as we speak.

You aren't the problem, I'm sure some of this was caused by your ex-lib-snitch status based on some of the people in the argument (even if implicitly), but you are just the unlucky guy forced to be the example of Willards extreme hatred of AI, conversation of banning AI was brewing in Willard chats before you made your application.

Basically the straw that broke the camels back type thing.

ex-lib-snitch
The problem was always the "ex-lib" part, but I digress. In truth, AI posting has been mostly on the down-low, so it's no surprise that the return of the issue was met with much fervor. I agree with Fungle that moderation of this would be an overreach, but a showing of public opinion is a healthy thing in this case. People need to know that there's at least some sort of general standard of quality when it comes to the server.

tbf having a resource for photoshop guides and such wouldn't go a miss, help give people a little boost to get an interest or a hand in photo editing and such. Like a thread with links or videos to said guides.

Nobody knows there's an actual Willard portrait making guide out there, which is kinda funny.

I trained and currently use an AI agent to create maps automatically for the Source 1 engine, it is now capable of creating complex and detailed map that perfectly fit the Half-Life 2 RP aesthetic.

Therefore, I have been fooling @FungletheBungle for months, as he believe I'm working hard for hours, while in reality I just leave my laptop with Hammer open in the background, and let my AI agent do the hard work for me.

If AI is banned, I won't be able to trick Fungle anymore, which make me very sad.
Don't make me sad please ):

Just in case it's satire, AI can't do shit with Hammer Tool as of today

damn, even i didn't know that.
Yeah, I don't have a link on hand, but basically, it's a guide for a specific set of Photoshop filters that make an image resemble a portrait. I believe Boris used it for his works. It isn't WN specific or anything, so it should be somewhere on youtube.

It's good that there's a guide out there but there should be something newer [and visible] to fit the climate with how biographies and quality evolved into, to nurture people into being creative and using their noggins which will help bring a genuine effort to the table. We can point out deficiencies and criticize the use of A.I, rightfully so, but we should bring something to the table to bring a fix to the problem and bring out the best in people who want to contribute to their character, others and the server.

There have been some guides, but honestly, I don't find the appeal of it much. Biographies are something purely voluntary and personal, so I feel that having a "guide" to writing one is like a self-inflicting wound to creativity. There are a lot of very unique bios that don't go with the usual "info, backstory, relations" stuff that you would see on a template we had around here.

Plus, if we're being honest, you're mostly doing it for yourself. Not many people would watch a bio for possible updates. Really, the only times something gets a lot of attention is if the character is very popular, or someone thinks you're being silly (like with the AI stuff). Anyway, barring the blatant pessimism, I think "ideas by inspiration" work well with the creative display of what we usually get. And, personally, I think a hypothetical bio guide would really be only as good as its presentation.

Learn the skill first, then learn when to break away from convention.

Otherwise you just produce 10x more shit to get to the same level that you could with the help of a guide

Honestly you should stop yapping now young man. It's close to bed time, here's your iPad; I've loaded your favourite TV show on it already. Goodnight sweet prince.
