Char Backstory:
Born in Trentino, Umberto lived in a small town situated at the top of the Italian Alps. He came from a humble family; his father was a ski instructor, a really sought-after one as well, and his mother worked at a local oilery.

He was always considered a bright kid since elementary school, easily acing every test thanks to his affinity for studying and research. However, there have always been two particular subjects that interested him; Those being mechanics and biology.

The years passed by as he studied harder and harder, discarding his precious teenage years for endless nights locked onto books, theses, and documentaries regarding all about bio-mechanics. He had a goal, and that goal was to enter Torino's polytechnical university and become a fully fledged expert in biomechanical science. Once he graduated from his local high school with flying colours, he used the money he put away while working as a part-time Alpine Red Cross volunteer and his parents' savings to afford the university's tuition and a small place.

Having had the time to settle down in Turin in a small student apartment shared with some other aspiring youngsters like himself, reality finally hit Umberto... This was the real deal, and stuff was only going to get tougher from there on; the endless nights he spent studying were nothing compared to what he'd have to do in order to become the best of the best and gain a spot as a biomechanical scientist.

His time at the university was cut short by the resonance cascades, and shortly after buried by the Combine's invasion of Earth. He did not give up, though, seeing the opportunity to continue his research by joining the CMRU's research division. Today, he hasn't stopped studying once, especially considering the whole new revolution that the Combine tech and synth assets brought to bio-engineering sciences.

Questions

What is PPT?
PPT is an acronym for ''Priority Patient Treatment''. It means that there are levels to the care of patients, with Civil Administration having the highest, while biotics and underclass civilians have the lowest medical care. The CMRU Operational Standards guide has all pertinent information around this matter.

I personally believe this measure doesn't exist as just an insult to the lower-class categories, but as an IC incentive for the practitioners to show empathy and not just be health dispensers. As medical personnel, empathy is the REQUIRED emotion to work in such a field. And this really helps develop a contrast between the Combine's cold and authoritarian rule and the warm and homey feel you'd get from being taken care of in a clinic.

When maintaining professional conduct in character, what should be avoided?
Being a medic requires steel nerves and an even stronger stomach sometimes; injuries might not always be physical, but also mental. When treating ANY kind of patient, you need to be seen as a pillar that they can lean on while in their most vulnerable state, be the helping hand that reaches for them in the darkest times.

Basically, you must never be judgmental; show empathy at all times; be focused on aiding your patients no matter what has gotten them in the clinic or what they are outside of the current emergency they are counting on you to solve. Integrity, patience, and determination are the most important traits for a person in this position to have, and the opposite of those values should be worked on and expunged while performing such important duties.

If uncertain, what should you do?
Always seek advice from veteran personnel; they've been through a lot, and most likely have endured the situation you are currently in many times. If uncertain during treatment, immediately make sure the patient you're taking care of is in a stable condition, and call for someone with the appropriate experience to aid and teach you on the matter you're going against at the moment.

It is important to rely on each other; teamwork is vital in the medical field. Your equipe should always be on the same page as you, sometimes even BEING you in order to operate efficiently. During important surgeries, for example, you'd want the assistant nurses to be extensions of your arms... Acting tempestively, with precision, and at times even predicting your needs in order to save the patient.

During an abdominal exam, are you checking for oxygen saturation?
No, it isn't in the standard procedure; what is, though, is checking for any problems regarding: GCS, pupil reaction, limb strength, and speech
Are Neurological exams used on every patient?:
No, a Neurological examination should be used only when a patient is reporting the following symptoms: Head injuries, stroke signs, and general confusion.
When assessing for shock in patients, what are you looking for?
During this medical procedure, you'd be mainly looking for any sign of hypoperfusion or circulatory collapse.

During contamination control procedures, what should you do?
You'd want to isolate the patient to minimize the threat of spreading the disease while wearing the correct protective equipment.

Action Research is what?
It's the art of collaboration between fellow researchers in order to identify and eventually find the solution to any problem and complication they may face in their research. It requires formidable intent between the group, a great exercise to bond and strengthen the collaboration between fellow researchers.

Just like in the medical world, teamwork is just as vital in the scientific one. Great scientists would be nothing without the people backing them up, because nothing is more motivating than knowing you can count and trust the ones you're working with; Leading often to extremely satisfactory successes.

Hello! I'm Fredemund, and I wrote this application because I thoroughly enjoyed playing in the CMRU during V2, and I am looking forward to doing the same in V3. My main goal is the research branch of this union, since I have a couple of ideas for possible research that I'm looking to roleplay with you all.

About me as a person now: I'm 20, and I'm a firefighter in training, so I have some basic first aid experience in real life as well. I really am interested in the emergency services field; being a first responder is something I dream of. I admire heroes who do it every day. I've been a part of this community for a long time, being one of the Terranova transfers back during the big merge.
