The International City of Peace and Justice - or whatever perversion of that still remains.

'Peace' is enforced beneath the black jackboot of the MPF, and any 'Justice' goes without trial; the suffering working-class are forced into grueling agricultural work and often exposed to toxic pesticides and other aggressive farm chemicals, whilst the snobby loyalist tiers devote themselves to management, research, and a peculiar New-World culture.

Logistically, The Hague acts as one of the main agricultural centers of post-invasion Earth, with vast fields to the East providing the main source of Europe's sustenance under Combine control. Due to its relatively central position to the Union's established West-Euro cities, it also boasts significant rail and maritime bulk-transport systems that send goods out towards the British Isles via boat, and East to the rest of occupied-Europe via rail.​

The varied architecture of the Centrum district dates from medieval times up to the 20th Century, but it now houses something much more sinister - the city's primary Nexus lurks within the old Parliament buildings.

Much of the area has been converted to typical living quarters seen throughout the European Sector, with apartment blocks and storefronts lining the streets - a significant cluster of workhouses and factories line the Coast-side of the District, which prioritizes food processing and water purification for transport across the Sector. Areas bordering the farming district often fall prey to infestations, as the thriving under-hive of Xenian flora in the city sewer system and Randstad Rail line occasionally rises towards the streets.

Socio-stability is often strained - a fairly harsh class divide resonates throughout the District, as Loyalists who have exempt themselves from the grueling manual labor of the farms or processing factories rub shoulders with the unfortunate downtrodden when they return from the fields. Being a center for European imports and exports, the Loyalist bloc in the city also often get early admittance to luxury goods and resources; this has spawned a modish, contemporary high society within the upper echelons of the community which contrasts harshly with the bitter poverty of the working class.

To the West of the District, much of the city has been converted into experimental vertical farmland that citizens toil over from season to season; experimentation with gene-crops and alien foodstuffs is commonplace here as Union scientists push to make more efficient harvests to meet quotas and feed the rest of the Union's industrial machine - attempts to mass-produce Xen crops in Terran conditions have lead to many invasive alien species morphing with the local flora, and the sewers and tunnel systems beneath the city are often described by travelers as an 'underground jungle'.

Some attempts to farm Xenian fauna have also been trialed in the area with early models for failed agricultural gonarch breeding pens being present, but deactivated - it isn't an uncommon occurrence for workers to be ambushed by the product of this foul invention, even to today. Growing Xenian fruits and bulbs has also lead to the local avian populace being replaced by Boids and, more rarely, Stukabats; City 58 and it's surroundings are one of the few places in Europe that can actively support a large population of airborne Xenians.

On the East, pesticide-ridden fields stretch towards the murky horizon - it is from here most of Europe is sustained. The bulk-growth of plants known to be suitable for the climate occurs here; large, industrial machines bolt and plow across the tired soil as scanners sweep the perimeter for any would-be escapees.

Intense pesticides, fertilizers, and other aggressive farm chemicals have made the groundwater toxic for miles around - groups traveling through this area to pilfer food should carry a supply of water with them, lest they fall prey to dehydration and have to resort to moving closer to the city in search of clean water.

Any unique nodes for the city beyond the Districts.

Seaport Scheveningen - Harbour

Once a direct access ticket for smaller cruise-liners and ferries to the North Sea, the Seaport now acts as a major distribution node - it is the hub for moving materials out from Europe and onto the Atlantic. It often sends large amounts of foodstuffs from the Hague's vast farms to the British Isles - specifically, the Leith Docks of City Thirty One and the port of City 9.

*possible gameplay repercussion for blowing up the docks - British isles can receive fewer resources at any given time - goods coming from Atlantic/British isles to Europe have to move to alternate ports further afield, or head through the Med? Rad-X's territory*

Train Depot

A large train station moves goods from the city across Europe - destroying the station may cause a food shortage for other cities around Europe, should they not have pre-existing stockpiles or agricultural sectors.

Note: C&C is welcome and appreciated - I'll make edits accordingly based on feedback. There doesn't seem to be anything else related to growing/harvesting food on the World Map, but I might've missed it - if I've tread on any pre-existing lore, let me know.

while some of this is quite nice, it feels a little bit like the 'norm' of which most cities are.
I'll let rad chip in he usually gives a lot better critique than i do because I'm never able to read these entire things

I actually had the exact same idea and wanted to create a city like this in the NL but was always lazy to do so, glad you were up to it!
 
And the fruits of having poked Rad about cities in BE/NL is already paying off :)

We didn't have a city in Europe based on the en-masse agricultural district quota (other than similar plans for any in Italy in the future.) So, I think this is is what makes it more unique than the rest of the cities in this area, regards to central food production and harvesting operations. That and food has been talked about exclusively for a while. Good.

City Fifty Eight is then going to proceed as an unstable community and socio-stability will be tested. Urban agricultural districts with loyalist populations acting as if it were Panem's "The Capital" from The Hunger Games give me a fair bit of insight to this type of behaviour. Combine installations in governmental buildings and iconic structures are the norm and to be expected. Good, but it might be too close... like Rio De Janeiro type close.

Try not to flood the city with checkpoints, it is a farming operation after all.

Clever and smart. I'll be sure to add routes if this goes green lit.
