Everyone is sitting down, nestled up in their respective seats in the courtroom. Endre Meggyesfalvi is seen talking periodically with his lawyer, inquiring about the best case scenario of the situation. "Best thing they'll do?" the lawyer whispered. "A lecture. There's no one else they could replace you with in this God forsaken city." Endre nodded, keeping his head down as he scanned the courtroom. He sat quietly, twiddling his thumbs and letting his lawyers do their thing. After all, they're the best he could afford.
"Defendant Endre Meggyesfalvi," the judge spoke aloud. Her voice echoed throughout the courtroom, easily silencing the jury. "this case has been brought to our attention in regards to the loss of important assets, that of which being transhuman soldiers, and the loss of research to impede the growth of antlion influence over District VIII." After saying this, the judge reviewed various documents laid before her on her desk. Endre was visibly shaken and anxious, already assuming he was guilty from the start, that they may have the power to do something to him. The reality had sunken into his stomach as if he was riding a rollercoaster, a rollercoaster of emotions. All he could do is hope for the best of himself.
"Prosecution. You may begin your opening statements."
The prosecutor exited from his chair, walking up to the stand and preparing his opening statement. Endre was familiar with this man, a former colleague of his named Tony Scalloti. They had a fallout in their friendship during Endre's appointment of City Administrator. Tony was more of an individual suited for power and wanted nothing more than that. He taps the microphone, feedback bouncing off of the walls. "On February of this year, City Administrator Endre Meggyesfalvi sent a squadron of only three OTA footsoldiers to the Condemned Zone of City-11. They were greatly outnumbered and had limited resources, of which costed us the loss of extract, potential research, and the death of an important asset to the Overwatch, that being the Ordinal. Today, we are going to prove this man had broken several laws, constitutions, and broke his loyalty to the Combine." The prosecutor then left the stand, returning back to his seat and letting defense take over.
The opening proceedings continued for about an hour, both sides reviewing evidence and attempting to form their own timeline of events. Suddenly, Endre poked his head up and began to speak. "It was all according to plan." he said. This outburst quickly caught both the defense and prosecution off-guard, of which he stepped out of his seat and walked up to the stand. "Three soldiers... sent to scout the place out. Get some extract, and get out. They weren't supposed to be there for a prolonged period of time, we had direct orders to grab the samples and leave. Nothing else, nothing more!" he shouted toward the judge, the jury dumbfounded at his behavior. Though, they felt as if they had to listen, and as such no one interjected. "There are plans underway to get rid of the nests in the Condemned Zone before they spread to City-11. We will be sending hazmat teams and cremators over to torch the damn place. This- this whole thing is for NOTHING! You are all trying to condemn me for saving this city? How DARE you all?!" His shouting now echoed throughout the court, his voice instantly switching from a calm demeanor to a roar.
"Without me, this city will fall. And you all know that." he said, his tone shifting once more as he regresses back into his old behavior. "We have a plan... None of you know how any of this works behind the scenes, yet you believe you have the right to judge me. Then go ahead, send me to the reprocessing facility. You'll be just like the rebels outside of our walls, killing and sacrificing each other for the sake of 'justice'. LOYALTY IS OF UPMOST IMPORTANCE! ARE NONE OF YOU LOYAL?!"
Silence grows... Everyone stood in awkwardness as they waited to hear more.
"If you aren't loyal to me... Then you are not loyal to your Benefactors."
Endre stepped off from the stand, sitting back on his seat as he waited patiently for the rest of the court session to continue.
All of the charges were dropped.
Endre would soon be escorted out of the courthouse and immediately redirected to the citadel.
All according to plan.
