How much is one willing to sell their country for their own benefit?
A question which George S. Olson made clear through his answer.
He is a corrupt, slimy criminal whose only agenda was and still is to consolidate power to him and any of his loyal goons.

Upon the Virginian side of the Potomac river lay estates for wealthy men, one was the private home of Walter Olson, a wealthy elitist who had owned multiple mines in Virginia's rural areas. He had ties to various organizations and politicians from both of the major parties, who would assist him in bringing legislation which only benefitted him and his circle. Many men were in his pockets, and it remained a gift to his son, George S. Olson.

George would join the Republican party in 1976 and later become a member of the United States Congress. after the election of 1980, he would find a good position in Reagan's government. Despite this, he continued to shuffle people into his pocket and bribed more into joining his personal collective. He promised mighty wealth to those who assist him. His group would use a number of shady tactics and sometimes would resort to 'silencing' their critics. The Olson Collective as it was called had grown quite a number of members, but few even knew of its very existence. It stood an invisible hand in American business and politics.

With his great wealth and his hundreds of ties to fellow wealthy businessmen, it wouldn't surprise most that he would have a number of investments in multiple corporations, one of which was Black Mesa Research. At the time of the late 1980s, they had become deeply involved with the American Government. Olson was one of the people who advocated deeply for a closer connection between the corporation and the government, becoming a symbol of collaboration between the two. Black Mesa became a near government agency like NASA however this would never be achieved, despite this, a deal between the two was struck, Black Mesa would provide arms and research to the American Government and its Armed Forces and the Armed Forces would vow to guarantee Black Mesa's protection. This was partly successful due to Olson's meddling as well as his close relation to the corporation.

While the early 1990s were big leaps in Olson's career... including his ties... the 1992 Election would lead to the rise of Bill Clinton, and while this would mean nothing to Olson and his connections, the 2000s were quite the opposite. around the Spring of 2001, the Black Mesa research facility would report an incident on a national scale. Despite attempted cover-ups by both the USMC's special HECU units as well as Black Ops, it was no use, and many have known that something bad had happened in New Mexico. Shortly after a deeper investigation was made by the IRS and the FBI into both leading members of Black Mesa's administrative board as well as politicians who had close ties with the corporation. When Olson learned of this he peddled as much money as he could to help falsify information and find his way out of the eyes of the government. Even with this, he was left trying to negotiate with the public about Black Mesa and its true intention, leaving all the fall to him. He had bickered over the incompetence of Clinton's administration and how his incompetence and lack of investment in the corporation lead to this.

It seemed like it was the beginning of the end for Olson, with his biggest investment in literal ruin and a pending investigation by the IRS and FBI, he would suspend all actions and would lay low, the oncoming global Portal Storms and overall political crisis in the nation would lead to an economic collapse with thousands displaced and thousands more unemployed. For most, it seemed the nation was in a complete state of anarchy, which gave Olson all the excuse to flee to the Caribbean for a few months in 2003. By 2004 a state of Martial Law had been emplaced by the Armed Forces, soldiers rolled across the streets and it seemed that with the hundreds of alien fauna blistering globally. With Olson's remaining connections to officers in the Armed Forces, he would be let back in but due to the state of emergency and his status within the state, he was virtually under house arrest. His home was guarded by soldiers while citizens found themselves evacuated out of their infested neighbourhoods.

However, sometime in late 2004, new portals would open up globally, this time with a new species of alien, new to Earth. The guards outside were swarmed by the hi-tech rounds of the aliens. within Olson's compound was a bunker in which he was rushed and sealed in for the next few hours. After what had seemed to have been a whole afternoon the local radio broadcast emits a new announcement, a looped recording announcing Earth's global surrender after only 7 hours of fighting. In some way, Olson was finally safe but had nothing left except for his close ties with people now deposed of their own power.

After around 3 months a provisional government was fully established all around the world. with the months preceding filled with anarchy and rebellion. Despite this, Olson had been called into the ruins of the American Capitol building once more. Brought in by repurposed army vehicles the politicians were escorted, he noticed his old allies and quickly reorganized his old collective. Around 9 months would pass, and finally, provisional rule by the Armed Forces was dissolved and a new office was established, this time for a City-wide leader. with Olson and his surviving members, he quickly picked off and denounced former political enemies as well as higher-ups who had gotten in the way of his. Dr Wallace Breen, former CEO of Black Mesa and now in charge of all of Earth's government looked over to one of his closest political allies and one of the few people who bailed him out of trouble. To Olson's own surprise he was picked to rule Washington, now blandly rebranded to City-30.

With unlimited power, he quickly executed his enemies, established his own one-party state and rules with an iron fist like an autocrat, he values service and loyalty, some within his own cabinet do this out of fear, and some find themselves reluctantly bearing their posts, and yet, with all his unpopularity, should one cross him and his loyalists... They're assured to be next on Olson's List.
