[OPERATION] TINNITUS
"Balance as long as you can, and when it's no longer possible, set the world on fire" - Józef Piłsudski, Marshal of Poland
THIS IS AN INTERACTIVE STORY THAT TAKES INTO ACCOUNT PLAYER AND FACTION RELATIONS. WHAT HAPPENS NEXT ALL DEPENDS ON YOUR CHOICES AND THE RELATIONSHIPS YOU HAVE WITH OTHERS!
THE ENTIRETY OF CITY 38 WOULD NOT BE CAPTURED AT THE END BASED ON ISSUES WITH TIMELINE AND LORE.
INSTEAD, THE TARGET IS CITY 38'S PRECINCT A3 - A PLACE OF THE BRUTALIST OPPRESSION AND DISREGARD FOR THE FORMER-RIGHTS OF HUMANS.
The City Thirty-Eight Athenian Rebels, the "Legions of Hephaestus", have lately arisen anew from the ashes of prior attempts to create upheaval. They seem confident that something will change. The Universal Union is indifferent. The Athenian rebels will never gain control of the regions.
But something HAS changed. Word is out that a High-Value Target has been captured. Now it's a race against time to see if the liberators can make it to their seemingly doomed city to free their people... least they be once more branded the cold-blooded perpetrators of another horrific act against the progression of humanity. Will they face the overwhelming odds of the Universal Union's might, saboteurs, and the feared Overwatch Transhuman Arm, coming out triumphant, or will they fall to a fate worse than death?
In the background, the "αποθήκη" ("Warehouse") looms.... but do not be fooled, for even if you should make it past the Warehouse an even greater challenge lurks beyond the corner: that of making it to your crippled city and getting your mysterious HVT to a console with which he can initiate the order to save your people... or destroy them.
PART ONE: "A RINGING IN THE EARS" -
This part shall be completed within the Warehouse (depot clone). Grapple with the task of making it through, perhaps undetected, with your runaway razor train, or perhaps you'll find an alternate method of transport. Consider stealing some supplies along the way; they may help you down the line. Who knows?
PART TWO: "THE COMING OF HEPHAESTUS" -
Rebel operations within City Thirty-Eight are marked with a turning point as they finally gain access to the key they only dreamt of possessing. The question is, can they use it? Or will they falter when it matters most.
FACTIONS
----------------------------------------------------
LEGIONS OF HEPHAESTUS
The most notable of groups aiming for rebellion within the Athenian district. They push for intense reformation and low-level anarchy. Despite their hardline beliefs, many Athenians have joined the cause, pledging themselves to the Legions of the Fire God. You are such a person, sent on what you believed to be a suicide mission for some HVT. You may have had thoughts akin to "Who cares about this, we're as good as dead!" - but you're anything but, even though you may soon wish to be.
Transporting the HVT is your priority. Nothing else matters. They are the key to releasing the shackles binding your beloved city, and that is all that matters to you. After all- only the Tagmatarkhis (Battalion Leader) and his Lokhagos (Captains) need to know more... right? Perhaps it bothers you, all the secrecy. You don't know who the HVT is. You don't know their position. You don't even know where you're travelling to in the immediate future. Regardless, you must deal with it. Or must you...?

CIVIL PROTECTION (ROGUE)
In league with the Legions, you have taken hostage the HVT and have handed them off to the higher ranks of the rebellion during his return from a simple inspection of your ex-colleague's posts. Now you speed with the unlikely savior on a razor train that you have defiantly hijacked towards something you have only ever seen in your feverish nightmares- the Warehouse.
Best of luck to you, disgraced protector; you'll likely need it. Let us hope you don't get shot in the back, huh? You may well be a dead man walking...
OVERWATCH TRANSHUMAN ARM, LEGION EPSILON
Several elements of the nearby Legion from City Seventeen, Varna, Planetary Regime Capital, has been dispatched to assist City Thirty-Eight in it's recent troubles with antlion activities. Unfortunately they may well soon be caught up in troubles of their own as they are assigned to manage the horror house that is the district's infamous "Warehouse" facility.
Earth Administrator Breen sends his best regards; do not fail him...
<:: OVERWATCH: Reminder. Failure to treat local identified outbreak will result in team recall and recycle. ::>
COMBINE CIVIL AUTHORITY
A quick, accomplishing inspection of the civil protection post- that was all it was meant to be. Perhaps some idle conversation on the razor train home with your CP escort team. Except 'your' razor train isn't really yours to control any more, and 'your' team is anything but talkative... and they have the side effect of considering re-educating you every time your mouth opens. The seemingly inexperienced protectors are making endless quips about your idiocy as you speed towards your unknown destination- as you speed into the dark.
Worse still, they seem to have plans to hold you over to a mysterious figure they have only called "Tagmatarkhis". Will you find a way to save your own skin, or will you join this rebellious effort in a fight for civil liberties?

CONCEPT INFORMATION
If your backstory does not cover the following questions, please answer them.
Do you wish to spearhead the project if your concept is accepted? (You will run the event alongside the SS team.):
Yes. Both myself and Cengiz are willing to assist the Short Stories staff should this concept be taken up.
Is this concept set in the Half-Life universe?:
Yes, it is.
Will this concept follow Willard’s Timeline?:
There should be no issues with it; therefore yes.
Will this concept affect the mainserver?:
Probably not in the slightest.
Misc. info and map:
Map is TBD. Suggestions are more than welcome.
Both myself and Cengiz will run this as equals should we be accepted with myself (Mullet) being the first contact for staff.
This suggestion is likely to have minor changes as myself and Cengiz rework and rewrite various pieces to make it more streamlined. Regardless, the basic idea is there. We hope you enjoy reading the concept!
CHANGELOG (DD/MM):
- 10/09: added themes for all factions. Might be revised and changed but I'm happy for now.
- 10/09: slightly changed the OTA description.
- 15/09: added new information below quote at the top.
- 02/12: addition of new information at the top under the event theme music to make it clear C38 could not be captured; only a precinct.
- 04/01/24: considering dropping "Operation" before Tinnitus in the name as the whole 'op' schmel is overused.
