The World’s Grave, also known as Lost Hope's End and plenty of other colorful names, is a series of mass graves within northeatern Spain. The name, World’s Grave, is not a title given haphazardly. Nowhere else will anyone find such creative ways to decorate the landscape with the dead. Many can find open-corpse-pits, corpse-piles, corpse-filled dumpsters, skulls stacked in pyramids, and more. The formation of such a horrific location is largely a mystery, even to the Combine itself. Plenty of rumors have emerged as an attempt to explain the origins. Some say it is cultists, others say it is a vortigaunt ritual, and few say that it is the work of God himself. Whatever the case may be, the actual genesis can only be found within its grave..along with plenty of treasures to behold.

The only reliable information out there is a very rudimentary layout of the World’s Grave, created by the brave men and women that ventured into such a place. Three so-called layers exist within the World’s Grave: the Epicenter, Catacombs, and World’s Edge. Each zone has its own characteristics and its horrendous sights to behold. Plenty of wannabe scavengers and rebels have ventured deep into the World’s Grave; for the grave has untold resources and riches to behaved...only for their corpses to be found within the sea of the dead within the World’s Grave.

The World’s Edge
The World's Edge is the only zone somewhat documented due to the traffic of people that ventures in. Fresh corpses can be found everywhere here, in shallow pits, piles, houses, on trees, and likewise. Scavengers are extremely common here and it is not only the human kind. Headcrabs are aplenty, here to attach themselves to corpses and populate the edge with zombies. Bullsquids roam the forests to viciously hunt down headcrabs for their own meal. Maggots and oversized Xenian leeches can be found feasting on the human carcasses in small little hives, and other hosts of horror shows are found aplenty. Even with those risks, grave robbery is the most popular activity. Whoever or whatever brought these corpses here never bothered to strip them of their goods and clothing. If one can stomach the decaying smell and dig through sallow corpse pits and piles then valuables can be found with time and effort - just beware of your neighbors and mysteries not yet found.

The Catacombs
Details on the Catacombs are extremely sparse and unreliable at best. Very few people have actually ventured this deep into the World's Grave and made it out in one piece. From their stories and accounts, the Catacombs are filled to the brim with bones and older decayed bodies. Not only are human carcasses ever-present here, but the corpses of zombies, headcrabs, bullsquids, houndeyes, and other common Xenian creatures are also here. The number of corpses, be it human or not, in the Catacombs is enormous with deep pits filled with the dead, carcasses piled sky-high, and bones lying about everywhere. A light miasma coats the whole zone, causing great annoyance to the eyes and lungs, with the sun being also blocked by said miasma (if the forest was not enough).

No one knows how people are killed here so easily, might be the miasma or something else, but the corpses here are untouched by anyone - unlike the World's Edge. Real treasure is found here, but that comes with its own risks.

The Epicenter
No one has ever entered into the so-called Epicenter. Leaving anyone that wishes to go inside extremely clueless on its true nature. Only two facts are known for the Epicenter. The first is that an extreme mist of miasma engulfs the whole zone. The second is some form of a monolithic structure is deep within.
