Unpopular opinion but I believe the CPs acting like assholes all the time resemble with their general feel in HL pretty well. One of the things I liked about the server was the fact that everyone, even the loyalists besides CCA, seemed to have a grudge to hold with the Combine for things that happened ingame, mostly being CPs having treated them poorly, which I thought was cool. Saw it first hand as a Biotic as they practically hunted for ways to get me in trouble. It seems like a totally realistic thing for some CPs to purposely misrepresent something so they can cause you trouble, citizen life isn't supposed to be a walk in the park either.

As long as they aren't using it to PK on a massive scale, I think people should be apprehensive to approach the CPs. You either join them or you're against them.

I do agree with this, it's great if you can pull off a realistic CP: Forced to be a bit of an asshole to civs, forced to be threatening, knowing that if you fuck up, you die. You don't like the combine, but they give you everything you need to survive. You might as well stop rebels because, if they get too strong, you're fucked. The CP's in it for themselves or their family, not to further the city or combine. Be an asshole and you'll survive long enough.

That sort of CP is nice, that's what I'd like to do. But a lot of CPs here aren't like that. They're flat, 2-dimensional edgecops. Or they're just nice because obviously that's the sort of person to make it through training. Or they're making sex jokes in public places... Maybe I'm just stupidly specific with how I like CPs, I don't know. Nice cops are fine if they have a reason to be nice and are punished in a way IC for being nice. Asshole cops are good if their character has the mental capacity to be anything other than "i'm an asshole".

😢

In all seriousness; I have read this thread through-and-through. What do I think of Willard? Well, we're definitely not dead; we're in a position where, if we wanted too, we can push the boat out and turn this around, in which I am confident we can do so. Of course, we have our issues, and of course; more issues then some other communities would have, pretty much all I had to say was really said in what RAD posted earlier on.

required a staff team with a unified vision
This is our greatest failing, I think. It's what caused all of the other issues, most of which stem from poor communication and an unwillingness to change. The schism between Combine staff and non-Combine staff is shocking, as is the animosity. The indecisiveness is crippling. I think everything is still somewhat salvageable, but the shutdown is practically required at this point. All factions need to be reworked to be somewhat self-sustainable, while also fitting our as of yet non-existent vision. Rebels, in a sense, have especially been given the short end of the stick, because like you said, our skill system inherently stresses the importance of hoarding and idleness, rather than daring-do and boldness.

My own vision of the server thankfully mostly aligns with Atle's on the matter. I wish he had a more hands-on approach, because I believe that the vision that exists within upper management is definitely unique and sustainable. It's just that not enough action was taken to a) ensure that the fundemental core of that vision was shared by the rest of staff and b) to enact changes against factions especially to bring the server closer to that vision.

You haven't even reached your average player base set because the trend is still dropping. Just because last week you held a average of 40 doesn't mean you've got a average of 40 today because todays new average was 20 and 3 weeks ago the average was 70. You'd also know the trend is going drop abit because as of last night you now have a bunch of players (60% of a type of player) now on strike and avoiding the server for the rest of the week.

Pay attention to the trend please. Acting like everything is fine is only going to cause further trend drop.

Hello everyone!

I believe we’ve hit the cyberpunk effect, during development we believed it to be set and ready, although when we actually launched with a lot more players, flaws and cracks certainly popped up. I’d just like to make clear we’re not just ignoring the issue, very much far off it. I do also dispute the idea of it dying, we’ve got a wonderful team of developers and talented team members, it is only a question if we ought to pause while we finish this undercooked pizza.

So with that said, today I’ll have to make the difficult call whether we do indeed charge on with i17 as promised or if we pause for a longer period to revisit gameplay, add missing features and analyze where it went wrong for a much smoother re-launch. If we do decide for a re-launch, City 24 V3 will also be ready and in the meantime we'd offer Short Stories to be complete for those interested.

Either way, WN HL2RP isn’t going anywhere, the foundations are strong but the layering is wobbly and that needs to checked on.

Good response. imo, i17 is too much of a risk and I don't think Willard's really in a position to be taking those risks. If i17 goes well, it goes well. If it doesn't... You're further killing the server. I'd pause willard, get a lore reason for the 2 week wait (maybe a mass relocation sort of thing in the lore), and re-open once everything's fixed, factions are sorted, staff are sorted... I17 is just gonna be a risk and I can't see it going too well. Maybe it will, but I'm honestly not too optimistic the map change idea. It may work for a week, but we'll see another dropoff.

If, we are going to pause; it would be longer then 2 weeks, we need to make sure everything is in PITCH perfect condition to go-again; honestly, there is no set-time-frame for the pause; it would just be until everything is within perfect, and working, order. We would wait for all systems to be in shape; revamp current systems with the feedback we have received, sort internal issues and probably wait for V3. (Which, won't be done in 2 weeks!) We want to make sure we do it right.

They turned in the card and then got arrested?

This may seem like a shitty take, but the thing is the whole Loyalty system the server has in place is meant to promote, well, loyalty. Pro-Civil behaviours (like removing contraband/lost cards from the street and handing them over to the POLICE) should be fucking celebrated.

CPs punishing people for handing in contraband or lost cards is literally the antithesis of what the U.U would want. Why the fuck would any civilian want to be a loyalist if every time they tried to do their civic duty they get arrested/beaten/charged/shot? It quite literally pushes people to the rebels for no reason.

Some people using the "but muh brutal CPs" literally does not apply here. It's a terrible take from people who don't understand that the loyalty system exists to promote obedience.

It's just pure short sightedness. Either the guy is doing it intentionally IC to give the UU a bad rep (rogue cop basically), or the man playing the cop genuinely has no clue what he needs to do as a loyal CP.

It shouldn't be "Man has given me contraband. Ugg Ugg. Smack."

It should be: "A civilian had taken this contraband from the streets and handed it to me, the arm of the U.U, instead of hiding it away and/or selling it to the resistance/anti citizens to be abused. He is actively helping us."

CPs are dicks, sure, but punishing civilians for doing that is like executing a civilian for "inciting rebellion" after he snitches on some dudes he overheard planning to murder a cop. It makes no sense. And only means that nobody will bother to risk their lives snitching next time, which means the actions of said CP have been detrimental the UU as a whole, which means hes already done more damage to the credibility of the CCA than most rebels have done.

CPs should be assholes, just not unnecessarily. A civ fucks with you? You fuck with them. A civ does something that the combine sees as good? You reward them. A civ asks you for directions? Just point your stunstick over there and don't try to start a fight.

I see CPs, so often, doing shit that's only gonna convince people to go against the combine. You don't need to be, and shouldn't be imo, a nice police officer that thanks people all the time and helps them out because that's the right thing to do! You don't gotta be nice, you don't gotta be a dick all the time. If someone asks for directions, it takes more time/effort to scream at them to move back. Instead, pointing down the street does the job, doesn't provoke anyone, although still doesn't show you as nice or peaceful. This is what I feel you want in a CP. If you're provoked, fuck them up. If someone commits a violation, charge them with that violation and nothing more. If there's no reason to start shit with a civ, don't start shit with a civ. Don't go out of your way to be a dick, infact, don't be a dick. Be tough, observant, and scare the shit out of people when they fuck up. And, remember that audio violations, regardless of who does it, are still a thing. Screaming shit at a civ is only gonna cause unrest. Obviously, scream if the situation calls for it, but unnecessarily provoking people or causing more unrest is so common. It's difficult to describe. Make them scared of you, don't be some 14 year old school bully who people laugh at in private.

You can be an edgecop as long as it's not some one dimensional shit where your only character trait is being edgy, which isn't fun for the civ. Be an actual character while you're being edgy.

Also, by 'be a character' I don't mean a fucking... terranova CP buying a guy a beer at the bar. I mean be human, have more to you than what you show to civs, I guess.

It isn't a hot take, it's really shared by a great many people.
Regardless, Civil Protection will (most likely!) get a total revamp if we do decide to shut down temporarily. I think we need to stress the fact that cops are here to facilitate roleplay, not to live out their personal power fantasies and ruin a player's day.

The real hot take is that it's more than possible to play as a fucked up or sadistic cop while keeping the OOC experience of the other player in mind while doing so. I think that the TN word had a really good balance with this.

The occasional dickhead CP is more than a good thing, as it adds flavour and individuality to the CPs, it's just that I see this a lot, and it makes it hard for me to try and be a loyalist when I'm too scared ICly to even approach them with anything beyond "There's a fight going on".

Well yeah, I was gonna apply for CP to give it a shot and see what I could bring to the table in terms of a by-the-book "I respect loyalists, don't really trust unbanded civilians, hate trouble makers" type, but I'm not entirely sure of the overall atmosphere of the CCA and whether or not it would be a behaviour that's fostered well. I'll probably hold back a week or two to see how things go before trying.

So far loyalist citizen RP (for me at least) has been way more of a struggle than it has needed to be, with only a few CPs seeming to really understand that a civilian that's trying to support the UU by risking their life to report things/give contraband to you is meant to be rewarded with a "Good. Here's some social credits now get the fuck out of here." - You don't have to be smiles and rainbows about it.

It's getting better, slowly, but it isn't really... There, for me, yet.

I've spent a lot of time playing CP this week and I think a few bad apples are making the entire faction bad here. While I was on my CP character, we were almost always forgiving for small things and rewarding when they behaved well, let alone arresting people for turning in lost ID cards, I'm pretty sure the person was caught in a random search before the ID card was given to a CP unit. Even if that's not the case, CP units are not your friends, you are not meant to like them IC and If you really think what happened to you was unfair OOC'ly, please let faction leads know directly after asking for the CP units tag.

I'm very shocked you decided to post in a CCC for once. Hey, how're ya?

So, while we have you here- besides the standard PR corporate response could you offer up a explanation as to why you decided to ignore the vast amount of other CCCs in the past and step in NOW for this one? Remember the one made by your own staff listing out the problems CPs had? Or the issues regarding the economy? Or how focused the server is on script items rather than roleplay?

Don't give me the standard EA corporate response that "we hear you", "we have plans!", "our staff team is ready and willing!" because clearly that isn't the case. Far from it. Explain what you are actually going to do. If you're just going to do nothing again and just continue to launch with the new map tomorrow then just tell us. Do you intend to make the server less about script items and more about RP? Does player choice actually matter and you'll let them devise their own plans to solve an IC issue? Are we going to keep seeing staff members making their own factions to supply themselves equipment and SCs? Your staff team seems to offset the issue claiming it's just a difference in timezone- That's absolute bullshit because of the group I play with I'm the only North American player and my European friends seem to have the same experience- if not a WORSE experience.

Give us a reason to play here.

Exactly my thoughts. I play both CP and rebel myself and my experience does not match with what people claim CPs are. There are some bad apples and there have been people that I had to report to my own faction leads myself but that's absolutely not a majority.

When did this happen exactly?
Look into the Daniels incident.

Look into how the Styx was originally founded.

There is a wealth of info out there that should be readily available to a administrator such as yourself. This is litterally issue's CM's have had to come and solve.

When did this happen exactly?
You will never believe any of this despite seeing the screenhsot of the sniper rifle, the fact that Duchy is holding a Uzi and literally receiving food supplies every single night by a random fresh spawn character full with high tier food will you?

Before you go ''But those items were despawned!!'' during the multiple instances of these lame events happening, did any admins receive a demotion for any of this?
