We dont beat up the CWU/CMRU Enough.

There's no need to diversify the production / engineering / maintenance roleplay over to Civil Protection, Civil Workers' Union is just a glorified simon who tells citizens how to roleplay picking up rubble. A tutorial faction, if i may.

The way how things have been made highly bureaucratic which cause stress, I would say has less to do with the theme of hl2 rp, rather control of roleplay quality and defined lines for transgressions, which cook self checking conflict. It also may make the experience in the group feel like being part of something real, but the more you weigh roleplay on realism, will this gatekeep more roleplay behind these players - turning the roleplay to actual work.

For instance, having a workshift for the production of items is one way to make items happen. But at the same time, you can just cook a narrative that goods have been shipped - skipping the stress of having to roleplay for some scripts.

On another thread, Willard has been compared to being a drug ironically, however, for CWU i could consider the root of the faction's fun deriving from being a workaholic within a video game. It's easy to see one's achievements manifest through the group and it is evident that you have a role with meaning to the community, yet it is time consuming and can become exhausting because the gamemode relies a lot on you, which may lead to burnouts from this stress and hence inactivity.
TRUE, I just wanted to offer up an alternative solution since the vibe I got from a lot of the Civil Workers was that the game was stressful enough for their characters and that they didn't want to deal with the added stress of real Combine oppression on-top of it. It's kindof a funny excuse, seeing as this is Half Life 2 Roleplay, not Soviet City Roleplay, but I can understand changing the game up a tiny bit to satisfy all players and make the gameplay a bit more fun and intuitive for all. IIRC in Nebulous GRID was a huge thing back when I played around 2018, but that could just be my dementia-ridden memory.

Also, Simon? Am I stupid or do I not get this reference? I get the vibe and completely agree with what you describe the CWU as, but I really wanna know where that's from, I'm out of the loop LMAO.

How following could have been managed

- Deadline orders one after another [Terminal 6 era]
  • OOC Limit, Ticket System, Undone orders are rolled to get shipped or not.
- CWU being targeted for scripts.

Utilize already existing entities.

Player wants item => Sends order to CWU => CWU verifies order with PDA, utilizes the in-game vendor terminal system => Sends a letter of confirmation.

- CPs demanding our attention and full commitment to their orders any time any where.

Institutionally require CPs to go through a separate reception of orders. Have a sole character in the Civil Protection who is responsible of CP-CWU logistics (Ministry of CP!?!?!?).

- Lack of patience

Have a complaint booth.

- Constant events where CWU had to get involved, which also blocked us from doing our regular workshifts.

Narrative events are informed in advance to faction lead, who will simply make sure if the faction has capacity to handle the stress or not.

- Constant nagging from shop owners and their own side of bullshittery that made some of us rip our hair out, especially Knight.

Player wants item => Sends order to CWU => CWU verifies order with PDA, utilizes the in-game vendor terminal system => Sends a letter of confirmation.

- New workers not understanding anything, even tho instructions were very clear.

Make them write an in-game essay if they want to keep their role on the things they do not know and why, as means to understand how it was not possible.

- People joining to either steal or abuse the terminal [We had that happen few times].

Cooperation with Civil Protection, MOC and Staff.

- IC Interviews that took quite a while to get through.

Time budget the interviews. Don't make 20 minute interviews 1 hour long. Limit how many answers respondent can give.

1 question, 1 follow question, 2 says for instance.

- Admins popping in with CWU characters and taking command. [Don't ask me about this one, it was quite a while ago].

Admin CWU characters to operate as separate entity in coordination with faction lead.

I think a thing people dont get right is that CPs are also human, and using hl2 lore, most are civil protection just for the better living conditions. Obviously there can be characters that are bloodthirsty, but most of them are there to live good, and not to hurt people. How true is that? i dont know. never played civil protection before.

Very much true, but like most cops and empowered secret police, that kind of work attracts, promotes, and encourages bloodthirsty sadistic assholes who are willing to set an agenda and actively make change. A lot of cops SHOULD just be kinda chill and wanting to get in for the better living conditions, but Willard's CiviPro command units and rank leads have so far been too lax on the people they're supposed to oppress. I originally made this post a few months ago not really wanting to rock the boat too much, but I've felt comfortable saying more since.

If you want a look of how nasty humanity can be, look at a quote by NKVD Minister Nikolai Yezhov. When he was asked by a politburo member about whether or not it was okay to kill a few innocents to get at the guilty, he said "When you chop wood, chips fly."

Realistically they're constantly under pressure either by the Resistance or Overwatch itself, people who join the Civil Protection are naturally selfish as it is well known that the Metropolice is the Combine's right hand during the Earth occupation.

The Majority of the cops within the Civil Protection already know that they cannot make a difference and as they rank up getting 24/7 brainwashing they end up being desensitized to killing another person and will likely think about preserving themselves under the Combine rule rather than risking their own life for an innocent person who will likely end up dead within another week.

It's either them or me mindset
