The Night Shift Initiative - We want YOU!

View attachment 37578

Hello fellow Willardians, my name is Tsunami, and a lot of you know me, but some of you don't. I am the founder of the "Night Shift™ initiative" which aims to bring activity to the server, during times in which it's not very active, more specifically, we're talking about Late Night NA time zones. Between 8pm - 3am EST ( GMT - 6 ).

I'm making an official forum post to further the interest and awareness of The Night Shift™ Committee, as our strides are to benefit YOU, the reader of this post. Every stride we make as a committee has generated additional interest and excitement for the after hours of Willard Networks, something I noticed to be lacking.

So what's the problem? Why?
Well the problem is, if you're like me, you get to log into the game around 7-8pm Eastern Time ( GMT -6 ), only to find the streets deserted, void of life. Nobody around, nothing to do. I spent many, many nights like that because frankly, that's the only time I'm able to play. I understand the server is primarily made up of European gamers, but it doesn't have to stay that way forever.

Originally, like anyone else, I thought to myself "Well, no other players are online. So I may as well log off as there's nothing to do." But that right there is the problem. I realized that I held a duty to the citizens to stay connected even though our numbers were thin, to provide RP and scenarios created for the others who logged into the game late, and making the best time out of what little free time we all had.

Many, many moons went by as I stood alone in the streets of i17, I would handle a situation on one side of town, walk into the Nexus, only to pop out of it at a different place, just trying to do everything I could to make it seem like there was more combine presence than there really was. until one day... I wasn't alone! Another fellow officer came on, and then another, and another, and another, you fast forward into the future several months, we have band together to create something called "The Night Shift™ Committee"

The Night Shift™ committee started with a simple discord message. A simple "Night Shift™". This was used to notify people in the discord that there would be something to do, even in the off hours of the night. As I began to receive positive feedback, we elevated to making poems, and now pictures and game covers to promote the off hours increase.

Let's fast-forward to today. Sadly, Night Shift™ was just beginning to get popular before the server went under maintenance. We had just reached a point where people would be talking and discussing the Night Shift™, looking forward to what they would be able to do at night when they got home from their regular live. But the downtime has allowed me to plan a prowess that's going to unite the night even better than before. Let's talk about some of the progress we've made, which would not have been possible if the gracious and honorable Willard staff wouldn't have reached into help us..

View attachment 37575

Willard Staff, before I go into the progress, I want to send a special thanks for recognizing this committee, and helping to implement our request and changes to invoke and invigored the late night hours in the game. They have so patiently listened to the request, implemented solutions for us, which frankly wouldn't have been possible if they did decide to turn a blind eye. I speak on behalf of everyone in the Night Shift™ committee to say THANK YOU.

- We have increased player population count in the off hours by a significant amount. As it started with combine, we noticed that the more often combine were present, the more often civilians became present. Overall evening population was at an all time high before closure. Amazing!

- Faction Management has made recognition of the lack of command units in the evening. This lead to players progressing slower through the faction than the normal day-shift operators. Staff has recognized this problem and have made proper promotions and put key players, including GM's in place to ensure there will be late night activity, and even progress.

- A suggestion to move the daily restart FORWARD has been approved. It will now shut down at 3AM EST allowing for our progress to continue into the late hours. No more will you be in the midst of an RP scenario, and have it interrupted by a daily restart, causing you to log back in to an empty world.

So what's next on the agenda?

Well, YOU. The reader of this post. YOU are the agenda. Night Shift™ is NOT JUST about the combine. It's about the resistance, it's about the Vortigaunts, it's about the cremators and zombies, it's about the CCR and military. Most importantly, it's about the new citizens who are just getting off the train. We want someone to be there when a new player finds their way to us. That's what keeps the magic going!

Night Shift™ is something that I want everyone to look forward to when they finish up their day in the real world. Night Shift™ is a period of time where you can log into the game, and really sink into an immersive experience. Night Shift™ does not aim to be any better than the Day Shift, we just want the joy and action of the day to extend into the night, and without YOU, that's impossible.

View attachment 37577

So with the server to be forecasted to opened soon, I ask YOU, the reader, whether you are a Citizen, Civil Protection, Vortigaunt, CCR, whatever! To join us for our adventured filled evenings. The Night Shift™ is not a one night thing, it's an every night thing. The only way to join is to be logged in contributing to the RP between the hours of 7pm EST to 3am EST.

We will be standing by to entertain YOU, create RP events, and give your character something they will never forget. But it is the duty of each contributor to hold that same standard to the others, at the end of the day, this is all about attracting new players, and bringing them the thrill we all know and love, that is Willard's Half Life 2 experience, whether you're American, European, Dutch, German, Singaporean. We look forward to having you.

You are encouraged to use this post to share your enthusiasm towards this initiative, help to generate ideas, provide content and pictures which will be used to make attractive game posters to maintain the excitement we have gathered over this incredible movement.

I am not a representative, staff, council, or consultant of Willard Networks, all content and logos used are owned by the creators. There is no application to join the Night Shift™ as I am a standard player volunteering my time and energy to making post and content for a game I love very much.

Willard isn't back yet, but when it is... we will be there, night and day.

George, I don't know what happened but... I miss ya bud! Enjoy this commendable story that reminds me of a very dear encounter we had during one faithful Night Shift™.

The stale air of Industrial 24 hung heavy, the choking smog mixing with the metallic tang of rusting machinery and ash. The streets were eerily quiet, save for the occasional crackle of failing neon signs and the distant hiss of a broken steam vent. Towering buildings loomed like dead giants, their windows cracked and eyes hollow. The city’s systems had collapsed days ago, plunging it into chaos. Infestation warnings flashed on what few screens remained functional, their flickering messages a cruel reminder of the unseen threat lurking below.

Two Civil Protection officers stood at the corner of Politi-Control Sector One, their dark uniforms almost blending into the soot-covered walls. They exchanged tense glances behind their gas masks.

"Shift’s ending in ten," muttered one Officer, his voice distorted through the speaker grill. "And no way to leave a note."

Beside him, another Officer adjusted his visor, the visor scratched and dented from too many confrontations. "System’s down. No comms. No terminals. Next shift’s not gonna know a thing."

1725927307450.png

They stood there, the only sound their shallow, mechanical breathing. The infestation had paralyzed the city, spreading like a plague beneath the surface. The Combine's usual grip had loosened just enough for the streets to fall into lawless disarray. With their standard protocol shattered, even something as simple as a shift change had become a problem.

"Maybe we find someone," one officer grunted, starting down the street. "Get a shirt. Write the note old-fashioned."

The officer huffed, falling into step. "Not many left to find. And those who are… well." He didn’t finish the sentence, but the implication hung in the air like the smog.

They stalked through the dim alleyways, their boots clanking over metal grates and debris. The city was a maze, and every corner felt like it could be the last. Beneath the noise of their footsteps, the subtle sound of skittering echoed from the shadows, reminding them of the unseen menace lurking just out of sight.

1725927335804.png

As they turned a corner, they saw a figure huddled against a broken-down vehicle, their clothes torn and their face pale under the faint glow of the streetlight. A citizen, clinging to survival in the ruins of what was once civilization. His eyes widened as he spotted the officers, shrinking back.

The officers stepped forward, towering over the man. "We need your shirt."

The man’s expression twisted into confusion and fear. "W-what?"

One officer pulled out a charcoal stick from his utility belt, a relic from a past life, before technology had swallowed everything. "Shift note. Protocol." He gestured impatiently.

The man hesitated, then slowly began to unbutton his shirt, hands trembling. The other officer kept his eyes on the darkened alleys, his hand never far from his stun baton. They weren’t alone out here. Something always watched, waiting.

1725927352821.png

"Make it quick," One officer muttered.

They took the shirt and scrawled on the inside, the rough fabric scratching against the charcoal.

"Shift end. Streets clear. Infestation level: critical. No Combine support. The Officers wrote their respective taglines on the shirt."

He handed the shirt back to the man, who stared at it blankly, as if unsure what to do.

“Pin it to the door of the next outpost,” he ordered, his tone flat. “They’ll know what to do.”

Without waiting for a response, the officers turned away, their footsteps echoing through the deserted streets as they vanished back into the grungy labyrinth of Industrial 24. Behind them, the citizen clutched the ruined shirt, lost in a world that was crumbling beneath his feet.

All the while, the distant hum of the infestation beneath the surface grew louder, gnawing at the foundations of the city, as another shift of officers prepared to face the decaying chaos.

This is a very well made initiative, my suggestion would be to accept people from the Oceanic timezone by default into the committee as they get online around when NA players start leaving.

Also pinging @Botulism , this is how you run a committee for making change.
