"The first memory i can clearly recall is the day of my fathers passing, december 2nd 2001, i was 8 years old, i played inside... board games with my mother until we heard the sound of wood logs crushing onto each other... screams followed, my mom took me and we rushed out"

Before the war
Born in 1993 Nikolai grew up in a russian family in the east siberian mountains in a village not big enough to get a name on the map. Nikolais father was a Lumberjack leading a little company in the village from which the village was able to hold itself up, besides that there was also an mining company. the village destined its people to either become miners, lumberjacks or apply to the military. Nikolais father wanted him to join the military as soon as he is old enough because that would bring him to the city where he could absolve his service and study at an university as this was the only chance for people in their village to make it out.
Nikolai often talked to the people supplying the village by train as once in a month a train came by to buy the coal and lumber from the locals and sell different wares. Nikolai liked the idea of the city as the trainmen described them as prosperous big and loud clumps of houses out of stone with streets as wide as the village was long with iron cars rolling thorugh the everyday life. Nikolai dreamed of the city but did not want to become a soldier in order to move to the city as he has always been a peaceful and kind mind through the love and education from his mother.
Nikolais Father Aleksandr hated the way his wife raised his son as he thought that it would make him weak and he will end up as a lumberjack like his father thus it was not uncommon that Aleksandr mocked his son and pushed him around in hope for him to become stronger and not that whimsy kid he has seen him as. Nikolai always screamed for the help of his mom but she rarely came to help as Aleksandr only beat his son when his wife was away, the only thing that could stop him from doing that as, he was not scared of anything except his wife for some reason she was stronger build than he was and Nikolai Inherited this build.
Nikolai spend his freetime mostly with playing Tabletop games with his friends which they got for christmas. Nikolai was not any good in the Games but he loved to play them anyways as he could thrive in his imagination all day long. He especially loved the trait strength in the games he played as he did not understand magic based characters or did not have enough luck with the ranged based characters the strengtht based characters were easy to play and did not implement much thinking (atleast he thought so). Nikolai also played the guitar which he learned from his uncle, it brought much joy to him and even more when he saw that even his father was proud of him when he played it which did not happen often or at all in general.
On the Day of his fathers Passing Nikolai has changed his Personality, he did not want to stay that weak baby his father saw him as, he thought to himself that as he is now the only remaining man in his house and had to protect his mother. Not long after Nikolai started working at the lumber company as his mother was not able to maintain their life's alone with selling woodwork to the supply train and Nikolai wanted to become stronger through the hard work of cutting trees.

In the Year 2002 the combines uncovered the village and in the beginning they repurposed it to an supply post for the army and kept the villagers almost untouched, Nikolai neither understood why they were there nor who they were as he has never seen such soldiers before. The village noticed the seven hour war back then and the abrupt cut off of the supply train but they did not realize the extent of the war until the combine came and stood right in front of them as all radio signals stopped working. the village had a harsh year of trying to maintain itself with many people dying as the only form of food supply came from the woods and the hunt.
When the Combines came, They repurposed the Village and let the villagers do their work as it now supplied them with resources from the mines and the lumberjacks. but the villagers suddenly had to work and life by the rule combine and some rebels formed but after a clash between 8 Villagers and 5 Combine the remaining 5 Villagers fled to the forests never to be seen again, Nikolais uncle Davyd was one of them.

Nikolai lived along his life working at the Lumberjack and someday he was even able to cut and drag the trees by himself to the Lumberyard and with the age of 16 he had worked up a pretty broad Build without noticing, his mother always complimented him for that but he never understood what she meant.
Nikolai became a strong man but stayed uneducated, he barely knew how to read by the age of 19 and was not able to uphold a smart conversation yet, he was a bear of a child who loved his mother and did not know what to do without her as to this day everything he ate and did all day was controlled by his mother who wanted the best for her child.

At the age of 20 in the year 2013 everything changed, the Village got Sick by an unknown disease and took Nikolai his mother away and just a week after her passing the combine abandoned the village and relocated the villagers to a city far in the west, city-17 where Nikolai worked some hard labour. Because of Nikolai's strong build he was the favorite of the civil worker union for most of the hard work and because of his bad education he did not even notice when he worked longer than he was told to and was even to shy to ask when the work was over.
After seven Years in City-17 he started to understand the way the city life worked and even became more confident in talking to other people with his broken english. Nikolai even started to remember the time of the shifts he was ordered to do and did not bother reaching out when noticing that his shift was over.
The Civil Protection noticed the way Nikolai has changed and started worrying about him joining the unrests that started to happen more frequently in the slums of the city as he was very easily convinced about pretty much everything when you just put some fancy words into your sencentces. so they took Nikolai and some people like Nikolai and relocated them to city-24 and other City's in order to take them out of their comfort and let them start a new life without any connections and lower the chance of people like Nikolai Joining the unrests or worse the resistance.

First Week's in City-24
In The first Week's in city-24 Nikolai strived around from work to work trying to earn his living and maybe even buy a new home but as he has lost all his connections and is a foreigner in the new city he did not come far with the dream of a new apartement.
Nikolai did not talk to much people except the civil worker union to get new shifts from time to time.
For the first time Nikolai had a serious situation with the civil protection, he has been mistaken for someone running away from the civil protection, someone who in fact passed by Nikolai in a hurry a minute ago. After elaborating to the civil protection, they did not believe him and started beating the living hell out of Nikolai. During this fight Nikolai did not have much time to think about what was going on, neither did he build up the courage to defend himself and just waited until it was over. the civil protection started to get off him, Nikolai did not see their faces, but he noticed that the civil protection units were confused about Nikolai not fighting back for a man of his size. After a short conversation and a Warning from the Civil protection units Nikolai was allowed to walk away and started to think about how different the situation in City-24 is compared to City-17.
After the incident, Nikolai made his way to the slums of the city and went into a bar for a drink and maybe a chat with the locals.
Upon entering, Nikolai noticed two men Playing chess, a tabletop game unknown to Nikolai but he was still filled with joy to see that there were still tabletop games around as the last time he played them, it was in his youth back in the village and he wondered if someone in this city even got a guitar laying around.
He Joined the men playing chess, had a chat with the locals and the bartender and stayed for the rest of the day in the Bar with some tokens he made previous that day.

Abdullah was the first friend Nikolai made after arriving in city 24.

it was for this moment that both of them started to understand that all the problems happening in the slums are ultimately caused by the combine rule.
