What do you think is the cause behind the server's population being below-average as of recent?

The question is simple, and in the title of the thread.

As of recently (that being like month or so), I have noticed how Willard has been struggling to keep up a relatively large population during it's open days, which I saw has been a problem since Terminal 7. The server's been struggling to reach it's maximum playersize (only happens in like first week of new maps), and then drops to average of 40-60... But as of recent, most I saw is like 54, with it being on average 40 or so! Hell, as I am writing this, it's Weekend and there is only 29 people on!

So, I am asking you people, why is it? No new server has opened up that could have sucked the players away, there's been not many people quitting the server either, so, what's going on?

40-60 IMO is still pretty high for a serious text-based RP server, not many push those numbers anymore these days

what normally juices that up are big events i feel

and it can push 50+ plus on weekdays, idk why weekends are so lax lol

I guess that's fair, since TnB (they consider themselves serious) get 20~, Netspark (when it was around) had like 30, and Neb kinda oof'd.

We had one day of low pop and a thread has been made.

Tbh though, probably the map mostly. Its very rebel centric and civs don't have a whole lot of space or interesting locations to cook with.

this

civs also just in general need more to do -- stuff like workshifts that dont require a CWU worker to call it. I should be able to hop on and do some tasks without relying on someone from the CWU to start anything. need more daily jobs that arent just sell stuff build stuff gimme civil office workers working on shit severance style

the map sucks new players saw it was the most 'up to date' C24 and voted for it despite everyone else telling them that it sucks but because democracy sucks we got sent here.

addendum:

Rebels: once again massively oversupplied thus ironically there's no reason for them to get on, it's a cakewalk and they've got everything they could want.

Cops: there's no civilian players to police, everyone's a rebel, you'd be heart pressed to see five citizens at once in Victory.

Citizens: nothing ever happens, workshifts have crawled to a standstill, all the events are for rebels, the political scene has slowed to a crawl.

This is not true. Terminal 7 was consistently hitting the player cap, or close to it.

You posted this at midnight CET on Sunday. Most of the community runs on European timezones and is unlikely to stay up this late if nothing of note is happening and/or if they have work/school tomorrow, which, being sunday, it likely is. Shockingly some of us do have a life!

Admittedly, while your estimates may have been a bit overzealous, the current map and still outdated lore is taking its toll on the server's health. If there's any issues to wag a finger at, it's those.

Basically this.

City RP is entirely dead, the only reasons you ever enter the city are: A) To get rations B) to go to the store or C) Do a worlshift (which you miss 50% of the time) The problem with C24 is that eah section of the city is basically a long hollway, it's far too open and there's nothing to really to do/explore there as you're visible to CivPro all the time.

There's no reason for Rebels to play right now because there's nothing to grind for, Materials come far too easy and there's nothing to make with it, all the scrap weapons suck and the armour you can make gives you very little. All you're left with is selling your junk to the smuggler for pennies in hopes to save up for better equipment, but the problem with this is that the smuggler only ever holds a couple hundred at best, and you might have to wait a while for him to show up again.

There are quests... But they happen, on average, once every two weeks now

Overall, server is not in a good spot right now :/

Who knows the schedules all the world marches to? Diegetically speaking the citizens who can manage to are locked up in their apartments. Fractured status reduces potential citizen activities all around by design; as has been outline in some of the posts above.

Let us see how the week ahead unfolds.

If it is an ontological circumstance being that there is too much loot, to the point where rebels have reached fulfillment, wouldn't it be cause to an end game run which wipes the roleplay slate clean?

this would be absolutely horrible to people just starting out, plus who wants to have their progress wiped?

why not give a huge server-wide event which actually gave them cause to use the loot they gained enough so that they need to resupply? plenty of ways to do this besides coming in OOCly and going "okay bye bye" because that's not fun for players. it's not that there's too much loot, it's that there's nothing to do with it. can't go using your ammo in the sewers to shoot zombies because cops can hear that shit, so why not bother using a crowbar or smth? that's always been the issue with rebel RP on any server because loot just becomes more of a cosmetic item rather than an actual functional thing

i think the main focus, which should be heavily considered, is that each faction needs more to do, more idle objectives. citizens should be able to do types of work to grind loyalty through other jobs, rebels should be encouraged to sabotage systems (cut power lines, hack systems, jam radios, information warfare, etc)
as for loyalists and cops im not so sure -- i can't speak much for them.

The Problem isn't that Rebels have too much loot/scrap (It's part of it), it's just the main issue that there's nothing to make with it. Once you made your meele, storage, and armour, there's basically nothing left to do. It's like you're speeding down a motorway at 70mph before smashing into a brick wall.

mass destruction, CvR seriously hurts the gameplay of standard civilians. Nobody likes playing during Fractured because they're oppressed, nobody seriously likes roleplaying in oppression

shop rp is tanking rn because nobody is buying anything because of the price increases, workshifts are slowing down like crazy, and the lack of security council is killing me.

my 100% correct conclusion
bring some spice to the loyalists, it usually trickles down to the CWU then the civs and whatnot

I also have noticed over the last few months there were opportunities for cool stuff that would involve people. But then a few people would be like "I don't like that" and then it would stop entirely. Or people promised to involve people and then nothing happened. Also why is CWU not doing as many shifts? Come on guys, all of y'all, input into the system and you get stuff back.

But also for real, loyalist RP is not really good at all unless you extend it to tiers two or three. This is because the higher stuff only applies to a select number of people. Like this last arc I only got info from it from meta and the newspaper stuff, if I can't tell what is even going on why the hell would I care about it. This is not directed to you but instead to all factions other than citizen, stop doing faction only stuff, I see almost nothing that is interacting with normal citizens.
