Hello, so just recently I viewed the Civil Protection discord showing a new announcement, stating a change on how the Civil Protection will work around PKs.

1754996937445.png

To put it in short, basically, when you are PKd (Permakilled) on your Civil Protection character you will be allowed to retain your rank and only have to create a new backstory and Sterilized Credit reset.

In my opinion this is absolutely not fit for a Serious Roleplay server, here's a few reasons why:

1. To start off, you are taking away a pretty important part of a Serious Roleplay server such as Willard, death is final and the consequences are dire, if we all retain our ranks and only have to make a new character backstory then many players who are only attached to their position will start disregarding their lives more.

2. How are players supposed to rank up? If even in death a Command unit for example retains their rank then how can other players be given the chance to reach that position? Is there going to be a point where the WHOLE platoon will be rank locked at intention 3? PKs and Rank resets are necessary to keep the faction going with diversity, this way we are acting like a Semi-Serious Roleplay server where the ranks are an Out of Character thing which cannot be changed by death.

3. This is also likely to cause major inactivity among Command units, I was an Intention one myself and I decided to give up my char by RPing suicide and restarting as an Intention 5, if I retained my rank with the current policy and didn't bother to fill in a resignation my spot would've been filled for I don't know how long because not even death can allow others to rise up in the ranks. Let's not put the faction stability in the hands of Command units as they are an IC position with no OOC responsabilities besides unit profiling.

I'm not trying to stir trouble or anything, I am just stating that this change seems absurd and will not be good for the health of the Faction.

I don't want to prolong this too far but let's just make a Comparison on what every faction loses in the server when they end up PKd

Citizen:
- Relations
- Items
- Credits
- Social Status (Reset to Tier-0 or Underclass based off the player liking)

Vortigaunt (Free)
- Items
- Relations
- Status as a Freed Vortigaunt (Reset back to biotic, usually takes months to work up an application for freed Vortigaunt along free spots)

Resistance
- Items (Weapons/Armor/Chips/Other)
- Credits
- Relations (Including Underground ties, therefore you no longer have a group)
- Reset as a normal Citizen (by Rules you are not allowed to commit any rebellious acts until 2 weeks have passed)

Civil Protection:
- Relations
- Sterilized Credits

The Majority of the items that you possess will be instantly gained as you request a Rank Leader to hand you either the equipment or a 100 Credit coupon to get your stuff back from the Requisition.

How is this even remotely fair? Considering yes Civil Protection may be more prone to being PKd, but that doesn't mean that you should get some free pass, it is specifically stated in the Civil Protection guide that any unit is expendable, you know what you sign up for the second you join in, not get special permissions.

Now, should we allow Citizens not to reset their status after death? Should we allow Rebels to just have a new face but still be within the Underground and heavily armed? Vortigaunts kept free? No, then why should Civil Protection get this free pass

Imo, its because Civil Protection are the only faction who are forced into anything. They can't opt out. A Vort/Rebel can hear about a raid and decided not to partake or even run and hide. In fact, most do.

Cops can't. If you get told you are going in, you either hope you don't run into anyone or accept you have to capture or PK anyone you come across to not lose your character. There is no "no, thanks."

It's not about cops being less skilled in S2K, Civil Protection revolves around Roleplay, the majority of the characters don't want to get into S2K both ICly and OOCly.
^ I agree with this.

However I do think it is unjust for the rebel side and will also cause overflooding, I don't like to see every cop with the same rank and Command units, recently opening tab has every damn character having an i3 rank, idk if its just me really disliking this detail.
I guess time will tell, we just need to let it develop naturally to see where it goes.

Equipment, because Civil Protection is the state police obviously. Funded by the city's industry for equipment. The wild coalition of insurgency? Have to get it themselves somehow, it isn't like you have your own factories to produce.

CP players have to partake in risk, it is either do or die. Death by Rebels or Command Unit, take your pick.
Rebels and everyone else have a decision on how they want to engage and risk it. You seen it, how many BSLs CPs recently had and the Rebels got a good few Ws, which is good. But Rebels can engage, how they like it. CPs engage because they must.

And about status and rank. Well, as citizen you can decide your own path really. If you know the risk on going rebel, you should know you can die anytime.

And I believe that keeping rank can stabilise the command issue, that If a command unit dies that a unsuitable candidate is picked in replacement.

I used to be against letting freed vortigaunts stay as freed before I was vort lead, but when I got there I just let them keep their role unless they were explicitly captured and not killed. Biotic RP is dogass, and it’s not a good way to keep up faction retention.

You are likely to get permission to just remake another Freed Vortigaunt, but by default you're supposed to make a biotic

If I was under the risk of losing my character as a CP and got told I could say no to being forced into sweeping because rebels did something to warrant it, I'd never set foot in the underground again. I imagine most of the faction would do the same and that's why forcing them to sweep is neccesary. The cycle of conflict on the server would fundementally break otherwise.

Now imagine if, for the sake of argument, rebels were under the same expectations as cops. That If someone told you that they were going to shotcop, you had to go with them and risk your character. You couldn't say no or avoid it without extreme IC punishment if not a PK. People would very rightly get pissed off at this.

If you want CP's to suffer more when they die, then make every faction equally likely to be forced into conflict. Otherwise, I don't see an issue with these changes.

Agreed. If a rebel goes out of their way to targer a command unit or the command structure of the combine, there should be consequences. Just like the PK of a rebel leader can destabilize them by a lot.

More example of CMB craddling and hand-holding but rebels get pegged everday. If this is allowed then wheres my AKM when I get pked? Will you give me back my gear or my place, connections, reputation back in the rebel grid when I make a new char?

and spare me the bs of "I worked many hours for this rank and STC" mfk you just AFK in the RDC for that, you ain't tricking us.

i'll stop bitching when you people make the two sides fair.

This post isn't about favoritism or anything, it wasn't decided by PK rulings but by FL

Also let's not forget that the rebels are conditioned on the map loot so sometimes (Like on T7) it takes months to even get a weapon. Yes with the new game+ of the rebels is "easier" to get started but for that you need the Rebel leads to decide.
just to comment on this... I got a makeshift AK + Helsing on my slummer char in two weeks, bragged about it everywhere; it might take months to get a 'real' weapon... but given the chip grind i experienced on slummer, i would say about 2 weeks for an MP7 at what... 8k chips? I'm not sure on the economy

It was pretty easy if you had a lot of spare time, and didn’t meet Mr. Ordinal and his team.

After multiple discussions between the server council, PK Managers, seeing your guys input and of course, CivPro leadership- it has been brought back.
