PAC3 concern

So, I would normally talk about this on the discord, but since I'm permabanned I make a thread about it here and maybe even get other people's attention to talk about PAC3 on this thread. So my good friend @Bennyfridge learned how to make PAC3, he told me he can make PACs for the faction we are both in. Since I've talked about this before with other members, we decided it's better to have some medals on us than to have full models for our faction. The problem is, if I remember correctly from about 4-5 months ago, the CMs and Atle decided to not have PAC on WN. If that's the case, why, and if it will ever be eventually implemented?

PAC3 is made for RP, it's one of the "pillars" in roleplay, and I don't really see a reason for not adding it. And don't get me wrong, this thread is for PAC3 in general, not to add PAC3 just for our faction.

To answer your questions - No.

Physical descriptions and in-game clothing and other entities can help you set up your character that's already implemented.

We're not using PAC3 on the server and we will never be doing so. Regardless whether that was four or five months ago, that verdict still remains very cemented in place. It's an incredibly abusable executioner with the potential to crash servers with a click of a button by players. It's not a pillar for roleplay as one might think as it's annoying, it gets in the way and if it starts malfunctioning then the population playing on the server pays the price for it.

PAC3 will forever be a no for Willard, that much is clear.

Your description for your character will be the part players use to represent and show their characters with a mixture of other features such as clothing,

The reason it was decided that PAC3 will never be used on our servers is due to PAC3's unreliable security, performance and abuse problems. Starting with Security, PAC3 does have a few backdoors that hackers can use to cause server crashes, do some internal fuckery with our systems and generally cause a ton of problems. So that is already a giant red flag. Moving onto Performance... PAC3 is quite performance heavy and with the size of our existing addons + everything the server is already running code wise and on top of the map itself... it only takes a few people using PAC to cause some serious performance problems and make the server or other players lag to all hell.

Abuse is the final issue it has... it doesn't even take a hacker to crash a server with PAC3, just 1 player at the most being able to do all sorts of fuckery with PAC3 causing the entire server to error before hard crashing ruining the fun for everyone else. Even if they don't do this, they can make really crappy creations, abuse the camera mode to spy on players or find loot around the map, see through walls, etc.

There is too many holes in PAC3 that it is not worth any risk in using it. A description is more than enough in itself rather than needing some special customization system like PAC.

Give me Atle's discord
Atle wouldn't change this alone. Yes there is plenty you can do with PAC to make RP more immersive, but there's much more abuse and security issues that can come from PAC that has made it a no-go.

I've done 3d modeling before, and it's not too difficult. If you want to try that, you can try make some generic medal models and whatnot then make a suggestion to be implemented. Other than that, char descriptions are your only option.

THINK GAZZ THINK
YOU THINK ATLE ACTUALLY OWNS WILLARD NETWORK?! NO, HE DOESN'T
WE'RE ALL JUST PAWNS FOR MULLIN

decision is likely to remain unchanged, especially just to suit the needs of a single player and his group. i don't think having pac3 is the best of ideas, given how easily it can be abused and how out of place it can feel.

It's not about PAC, it's about my faction, and I want to talk directly to him rather than the CMs

All I'm gonna do is inform you it's best to talk to CMs, I do not manage factions. I offer support and advice where I can but ultimately I'm not the figure to talk to when it comes to factions, go talk to CMs about that :approve:

I'll just jump in and say I agree with everything the other CM's said above and dont really have anything to add to prior points. PAC3 is not something we are about to add, and something we are astronomically unlikely to ever add, let alone solely for one faction or player. Character descriptions are entirely proficient for displaying minor cosmetic entities or oddities on a character. This request must be denied.

the most you could get out of PAC3 is probably pacdata which makes it easier for admins to create items that show up on your character. they did this on terranova

i.e. if you equip a backpack item, it would PAC on a backpack model on your character without you having to do anything

I will also hop in and be honest, PAC3 won't be added just because of one not even official "Faction" not to speak it could potentionally give hackers/exploiters a way to attack WN Server

Also @verTix we've models with BGs, we don't need anything put on models tbf. Maybe just a simple gun but that can be coded in and merged with a bone

Impulse feels the same, and I’ve played on a few servers that use it and they lag a ton from time to time
