Weapon balance

Currently the weapons make little to no sense at all. The MP7 is the default weapon for everyone, once you get one there is no point in getting anything different. This is very dumb, not only are you making S2K meta it's also making it stupidly easy for people to get the "meta gun". I've seen people argue that Mini-14 are decent too, however I still believe this is stupid.

The MP7 has 14 damage and 65% armor penetration, meanwhile the M16 has the exact same stats but a slower fire rate, the only difference being the range. I find it very stupid that there is no way for people to find gun niches and instead are forced to only play the MP7.

I am not saying we should nerf any weapons, instead I believe it's weapon should be balanced to the playstyle.

Sub-machine guns should have lower armor penetration and high fire rate.
Assault rifles should have high armor penetration but should be awkward in close quarters combat.

Rifles shouldn't exist within HL2RP. They create a level of balance that's so hard to control, it's pointless.

I could not even begin to disagree with this enough honestly especially considering the MP7 outperforms both the M16A2 and is only SLIGHTLY worse than the AKM, they are not hard to control but need a specific niche. A few ideas of mine are:

Make ammunition more realistic to craft, scrap firearms using blackpowder would be easy, as you can produce blackpowder simply with fertilizer and urine. However, high quality smokeless powder is a much different process that would require a full chemistry setup and professionals, making it much harder to produce especially on a large scale, leaving almost all ammuntion to be bought from BMD's or limited when sourced by bodies and firefights while giving junk weaponry a new niche of an easily renewable ammunition source.

Rifles can also be balanced by making the firearms skill more necessary if you wish to put higher stop-gaps, with recoil impulse, innacuracy, or even reload time depending on the skill of the devs.

Rifles should excel against armored targets but be overkill against unarmored targets, the MP7 needs to have the highest armor pen of all SMG's given it's 4.6x30mm cartridge, but should come with drawbacks. A rifle should have significantly higher pen than the 4.6x30mm, 10-15 percent or more.

Slightly increase the damage on rifles, or if you don't want this- add a slight increase to the headshot damage to make it skill based. Most shotcops we have been doing are either dominated by a few things;

1. The tiny amount of mini-14's we have floating around given their high per shot damage at 20.

2. Pulse weapons, this is a given, pulse weaponry should be acceptably powerful. (Except the OTA SMG, holy fuck please work on that. I've seen people literally throw it away for an MP7.)

3. An M16 or AKM. (This is literally only done for attachments or because it looks cooler because the MP7 is such a better pick.)

4. The USP Match. If no MP7 is available, the USP has a very good fire rate, mag size, damage, and armor pen. It is completely viable in S2k.

That is all, thank you.

Rifles are pointless on the server. MP7 has a higher fire rate, and same stats. Rifles are shit in the current meta.

Sorry... can we just talk about this? This is completely tangential but I'm having a crashout moment. I'm seeing this more and more in HL2RP: the overuse of the word 'within' even in contexts where it's neither necessary nor does it add any further value in place of simply using the word 'in'.

Remember: 'within' is directly tantamount to the word 'inside', not 'in'. So if we were to replace the word accordingly, you would be saying 'Rifles shouldn't exist inside HL2RP' --> now doesn't that sound clunky?

I've never seen this overuse in anything outside of HL2RP. But it's not a Willard-specific thing, it exists generally, in HL2RP. I've even seen the word overlapping the bounds of other words, to the extent that it no longer makes sense whatsoever. In place of 'for', and 'of'. A quote comes to mind from another server: "I am your City Administrator within this district." ...what??

Can I get some agreers to tick-react this post? ✅ Am I right? Am I wrong? Am I going crazy? Is this post completely out of left field?

Would love to hear your thoughts.

PS: Sorry Marco (notsorry)

Issue is, as a RP server, PvP combat is somewhat secondary and also is difficult to balance on top of that.

On TnB, S2K is straight up not IC, because everyone just agrees its impossible to balance it.

On Willard, obviously that cant be done just like that. However the tickrate, lag etc. Also make guns feel BAD even if stat wise they are solid.

TL:DR S2K is hard as shit to balance and people mainly RP and / or have 15 fps

There's something wrong within you

On the topic of weapon balance within hl2rp...

( @Labmann )

Pulse Rifles, AR2s and such being avaliable to the rebel playerbase makes many large scale engagements otherwise redundant.

Yes, rebels in half-life 2 have AR2s and such, but I'm talking about the gameplay aspect of it within Willard Networks.

For example, that mess last week; two rebels had OTA hammer rifles (which do six more dmg than the ar2 and fire 100rpm slower) (5% higher armor pen as well).

Pulse Rifles being so publicly avaliable to the rebels (after an OTA engagement with egregious strategy) now makes any other form of response besides OTA deployments, redundant. Why would we respond with SMG cops to rebels that outnumber cops, have better armor than cops, have MUCH better weaponry than cops and better skill than cops- not only are we outperformed, we're outgunned and outmanned.

It's gotten to the point where cops just won't sweep anymore, because it's a guaranteed PK.

No, I mean on the descriptions last I read it said something along the line of that it would require synth stuff to use it.

maybe should implement a rule preventing rebel shotcoppers from coming to the city or slums with a 12 man doomstack when only X amount of cops or OTA are allowed to respond at a given time

Pulse weapons are extremely overtuned.

OTA on Willard are treated like Mega Super Soldiers, with their weaponry reflecting such. So, when Cops go against it, yes it seems unfair. However, rebels with gear similar to what your normal cops have and will continue to face those exact same weapons.

Possible Solution:
Raise TTK across the board.
Nerf pulse weapons to be only slightly better than regular guns. (1 or 2 more damage, and a bit more armor pen)
Hard nerf vorts (who are so strong rebels would never dare go against them, even if they were openly hostile to us)
Limit the weapons to the following:
3 or 4 Pistols
2 or 3 SMGs
2 Shotguns
2 Bolt Action Rifles
Ar2
Pulse SMG
Pulse Shotgun
Pulse Sniper

All of the regular guns should be craftable (without blueprint), with heavy resource investment.
OTA should be relegated to expos, and events. Only responding during a total combine loss.
With weapons nerfed, cops would not worry about being extremely outgunned, even when a rebel has a Pulse weapon.
However, other changes would need to be made, as current incentives for non-combat activities for rebels are nonexistent. All of the major narrative impact rebels have had were from combat.
Rules around infiltration for most combine factions are entirely too strict, and because of the Cop leads refusal to do IC apps, infiltration of CP is entirely impossible for a rebel cell to do.
GMs and Staff need to incentive, and reward non-combat rebel stuff, and make it actually matter. Other than the current situation which the only way to actual effect the story is to shotcop until something big happens.

I just found this and I thought Id clarify.

Old description that is redundant and no longer is on use, it was bypassed through IC means too.
