Just putting this here as a question/suggestion.
I am wondering if for V3 there will be more space in books or other options for doing paperwork in character. If not then I suggest adding some options for books that can contain at least short essays and such if not over four or so doc pages of content. I get for big writings that take many many doc pages it would not make sense but at times I get tired of writing a description and putting in a link because papers can't do more than a small page and I know books are still in big font with not that many pages. Maybe some more editing in terms of markdown and all that would work out nicely as well as adding font size options. I just really would like the ability to have paperwork to do IC rather than five or so docs that people have to open up and have the OOC info of their links and all that, it would be nice for it to be (mostly) all in IC.
 
I still think custom book covers would make a great addition as well.

Never thought about expanding to pre-baked paperwork formats. I think possibly because I'd rather end up in Nova Prospect than do paperwork either real or imagined.
 
What kinds of paperwork would be more fulfilling / efficient / RP-friendly if done ingame?

Well... You probably will get a job, you've gotta pay your taxes. Fill'm out.

More realistically, job applications, office hell RP, and anything else that would be put in a google doc for some memo ICly.
 
ngl picking up a book to see a google doc link pasted as the only content was kinda lame

Actually does make me think, I wonder if you could setup a paper to be writable by subsequent players. Mixed fonts might break things though I would imagine.
 
A list of possible additions:
  • Have a standard writing format with some variation maybe, like having it look more like pencil writing or pen writing rather than a print font.
  • Have various options in font for prints
  • Have font size options
  • Let fillable fields be a thing
  • Have some way of signing
  • Possibly some way of putting PDFs into books depending on page numbers
  • Something far out there could be stamps and other forms of marking, maybe special pens or other scripts/skills (skills could be given maybe through a GM or an auth) for doing calligraphy and having different font colors.
  • Also markdown options like horizontal rules, centering, lists, check boxes, general markdown stuff or HTML, et cetera...

    Also an example for how different fonts (print versus handwriting) could look could be this (the picture is linked):

It is a real U.S. Supreme Court filing (that was accepted and decided) that has a lot handwritten because it was filed by someone who was in prison rather than the usual thing of having a lawyer put it through a formatting company.

Maybe it would neat if PDFs could be uploaded into books with certain formats for fields to be edited?
 
I really do want to make forms, especially so I can torture other people with paperwork, oh the city is being overrun, did you fill out your D-1242-5 so you can retrieve bullets? no? too bad go fight them with a stunstick

better yet just make it so you can apply screenshots or jpgs onto a piece of paper applying that image if its scaled correctly. Only problem with that would be malicious activity as im pretty sure a different server had this but had to be removed because a group of hackers would post illegal content and with gmod it would install the illegal jpg onto your computer just so you can view the image.

Maybe if PDFs are able to be loaded on, just have it be put in a place that takes the data from it and pastes it onto the paper rather than just having the original file downloaded. Or have it be like what I am doing on a ss13 server I am on and just use HTML/CSS stuff (of course with some things limited so you can't put GIFs and other stuff on there like links) and just have format "book" that you can share to copy paste a form in. Although if PDFs or some major freeform editing thing can be put in, that would be preferable.

I do wonder too, how the newspapers work, because if that operates with pictures and such being able to be put in maybe part of that can be also used for paper stuff.
