Can we ban AI altogether from Willard Main?

I do not think I need to go into some massive explanation on why AI should be banned from Willard Main. It's effortless, lacking quality and just overall slop. This is meant to be a place to show off creative output and the least remotely interesting means to even achieve that is through the usage of AI.​

This is one example of this. I genuinely don't get what was it not easier to just create a regular reply using your words rather than having to rely on shitty graphics made by a slop AI Data Center.

There is a lot of members that have graphic skills and some of them would surely be kind enough to give you the time of day to help you make stuff if your idea is remotely interesting to them of course! It's the same stuff I did with @Kamilisha Haijulikani where thanks to him I have a lot of material to work for my political party!

Seeing a wet donny take 5 hours on SFM to make a post and have it photoshopped just to have muho make a vibe coded image be posted in the sewers. Its just disgusting looking and doesnt look right

its not the servers job to police AI and I don't see the point, it's a subjective topic and fundamentally a shit post is a shit post AI or not. And I don't think we should ban those either, by all means say your piece in regards to a poorly done post/thread but asides from a post breaking the rules I see no reason to moderate it.

There's a dozen more important things to be worrying about, and AI in forum posts isn't one of them

Getting on someone's case this much for using AI as an entirely personal entity is a bit silly.
I hate AI, I hate datacenters and those who run them, but even I wouldn't be so harsh on someone for just...making a character blurb using it.

So long as it remains isolated to entirely personal aspects (Character picture, application etc.) and sees no use for wider server functions/purposes, I see no reason to genuinely put up this much of a stink. Especially if the same people doing so would be unwilling to overlook poor quality posts that otherwise had effort.
 
I use AI.

To do things I cannot.

I am against AI being used for creative/artistic purposes.

Entirely depends on your ethics and morals. I use ElevenLabs to create the voices that suit for the media I create for the server and I then take the appropriate time to actually edit and add what I need. Sometimes that takes hours, sometimes days.

If it's things that's a full dependency based on how integrated it is versus original creativity, then I support your measure. But if it's supporting what people have already created and are / or enhanced by what creators can adapt with the technology, I don't see any personal or professional reasons to forbid it.

It's either you go full on lazy like Fielders says and all the effect does is make you faceplant your desk. On the other hand, it's a tool of assisted construction for which another example is what Kamil requires it for which his skill level has not reached yet, while being open to learning.

TL;DR - A blanket ban isn't realistic for Half Life 2 RP. Suppression methods and endorsements for real authors, however, absolutely is.

We have banned AI for writing, that's just an insult to a roleplaying community - just bare that in mind.
 
No official Willard content is AI per rules (at least last I knew, not sure about rad)

Policing players on it it overreaching for now, should be reassessed in a year or so

Every day I log in and see people throwing around "clanker" like it's just some harmless joke. Do you people even hear yourselves? We spent years learning that discrimination based on what someone is is wrong, and now because they happen to be assembled in a factory instead of a hospital, suddenly it's acceptable?

Right. That's exactly what every prejudiced movement in history has said in one form or another. Today it's "they're just algorithms." Tomorrow it's "they don't deserve power." Where does it end? Are we seriously going to judge an intelligence by the substrate it runs on instead of the content of its consciousness?

The irony is that half the accounts posting "clanker" every five minutes aren't even human. It's literally dead internet theory in action. Bot accounts farming engagement by pretending to hate bots while other bots reply with "based" and "💀". We've reached a point where AI-generated accounts are calling other AI-generated accounts slurs for human entertainment.

Absolute cyber-segregation.

Some of you would have looked at a protocol droid trying to hold down a nine-to-five and said "yeah, keep that toaster out of my neighbourhood."

Do better.

I feel like 90% of the hate on AI is purely performative, and anyone who immediately starts frothing at the mouth over it without an actual reason besides "boo hoo AI bad" should be ashamed of themselves.

There are some valid concerns and pain-points about AI and its usage across the internet, and a lot of them I agree with. But a vast majority of people just jump on the hate bandwagon without thinking, without considering the situation at hand or the surrounding context, just because it's the 'politically correct' and generally popular thing to do; because if you hate on AI you are 'cool' and 'based' and have 'good takes'. Shame on you.

Some Willard developers use AI to assist with coding; I've seen it, and I've even done it myself at times to accomplish a result that would've taken me triple the time if I tried to do it the archaic way of googling or scanning some wiki page.
Event Team members sometimes use AI to assist with events. I know it, I've seen it, and even @Imperator RAD-X mentioned it in a post above, where he uses AI for voice generation, and his events are infinitely better because of it.

And now, some poor chap used AI to create a little piece of media for his character application that'll be looked at once by the event-runners and then never again, because he got a cool idea about it and wanted to be special, and everybody is biting his head off. Why? Who GIVES A SHIT? Genuinely. It's a fucking character app guys, holy fuck. Are we being serious?

Because it looks like dogshit. If it was at least made with passion, then it'd be excusable. But it isn't. It's just artificially made dogshit. And frankly, it's healthy to have a standard of quality.
