Yo

Lets brainstorm a bit guys. CityRP was kinda dead in V2. We got some answers in V3 for it but IMO, we still need some stuff to do, whatever it might be.

One of my Ideas was, giving Citizen/Workers more options with their SC and Credits. At some point both get useless, you just spend credits for the sake of it or litreally convert it in some sort of Rebel gear. There is a skill tree we will have in V3, which is really nice for progession and long term goals for a character. But character progession needs more juice, may be it Credits/SC/Skills or whatever (not counting RP)

So imagine this:

1. Getting a Tier up as a citizen isn't just reaching some sort of points. It should be ceremony, Propaganda and more.
Either it gets announced in the TV or there is a little event in the plaza. It has to be more special, giving character recognition, making it more difficult for Rebels to Larp as loyalist etc.

2. If you aren't high enough in the Loyalist ladder, (which should be more difficult to reach) You HAVE TO WORK. There should be a note in your data, which shows when you last signed up for a workshift or similar. The Union wants a working cog, not a free loader/mouth to feed or potential anti citizen. Observing citizen and being the Big Brother should be the main focus. CP should let the people work, make it hard for them, use them, so the city works.

3. Automated workshifts if no CWU workers are online or aren't hosting one. There should be a seperate area where Dispatch/GMs/etc. could announce a workshift (near or in warehouse) With CP/Dispatch have oversight, they can burn trash, use the fabricators for recycling, do cleanup in the city and whatnot. As a CWU main, I can say, many people get burned out, stop doing workshifts, that would combat it and give CityRP more stuff to do.

4. Make the slums more accesable for loyalists without them getting punished. As a citizen, you feel caged sometimes, you get in trouble for stepping out of the "Loyalist" area. May it be CP looking down on you or the danger of getting mugged in the slums. There should be more freedom in access for such areas. It would benefit both sides of RP, rebels and loyalists. As a slummer you have to be more careful of your actions, you shouldn't assume that everybody in the slums is like minded. As for loyalists it would open up more RP potential.

5. Making vortigaunts life easier inside the city and giving them more freedom. Many times you see Vort players ignore the city, since there is nothing to do for them. Literally, what can they do there. 💀 They either get ignored by others or bothered.

These are just some Ideas, if you got some share it. Would be cool if we can revive CityRP a lil more.

Just don't have the Slums. Treat it like City 8 or D47 where there is a shady part of town for rebels to work with but don't treat it like a seperate no mans land jurisdiction where everything is rundown and sucks and the Combine make no effort to reclaim. It makes the Combine seem weak, and it makes the Loyalists weak by making them publicly admit and institicionalize that their perfect city has an official Slum district.

True this is an acutal good Idea.

DeepGaming is the other way.

In my opinion the CWU has been blessed with the chance to always do whatever they want for workshifts. You theoretically have no limit to the workshifts you can do, especially considering that (I'd assume) we're in an earlier year so more would be possible since less limits are set.

I think people simply are too uncreative to actually think about cool things. Why let citizens build computers when you can have them fight Headcrab hives. Why let citizens sew together a few suits when you can go into a nearby cave filled with sleeping antlion and sneak around for something left by an off-screen char dying there.

I don't believe workshifts, or SC, are an appropriate or good way to handle the loyalist system. It's gamey and rewards players who solely interact with gameplay systems rather than actually roleplaying. The less automated systems Willard has, the better imo. You can't build decent cityRP off of a system like that at all, good cityRP comes from stores and independent groups of citizens acting together with factions like CWU and CPs to help push the narrative along. Workshifts are a bonus thing, if you're relying on them to provide the RP or advancement there's something very wrong

I'm not sure what it's going to be like on v3 but I do agree that anything like v2 ought to be avoided, the slums absolutely should not ever be a no-go zone for people whether loyalist, CMU, CWU, or CP. For most of v2 it was outright banned for any faction member to enter the slums. Muggings, and being looked down on for visiting, that's all fair game IMO as it's another character reacting to what you're doing, but it shouldn't ever be an outright dismissal from a faction or charge for loyalists (Unless you're like, CCA or something)

Vortigaunts aren't citizens and what we had in v2 just ended up being quite silly with loyalist vortigaunts and everything else. They aren't just green humans, they're an enslaved alien race which I think exist in HL2RP to create meaningful interactions with others but they can't expect to have the same breadth of freedom that citizens can without causing issues. It's inherently a limiting role. (This isn't a bad thing, if it's understood)

The absolute best thing Willard can do for cityRP is let those groups breathe, many stores and city groups in v2 at least early on were killed off by ridiculous overreach by factions like the MoC (Scrolling through 100+ transacation logs to place charges), outright targetting by staff (hint hint, nudge nudge) or poor management by DoB/CWU. Stores being difficult to get (High SC/Credit requirements, which meant grinding, which meant people were burned out before even getting access to their store). Or even impossible due to it having to be done ICly at times with not a soul from the faction responsible available.

Thats true an based, but most of the time shit happens in city --> repair
Or, tier6 super citizen arrives at the warehouse ---> needs 80 Steel
and stuff like that.

But the automated system is for when CWU isn't online and rudimentary stuff can be done automatically and CWU can concentrate on better shifts I guess. But your point is right. CWU might be the most creative faction, all they gotta do is write a GM or be one and cook shit up. I loved to do it.

wasn't it simply that you weren't allowed to go there with your equipment, ofc if you were often seen there, you might be looked into since well, why is this "upstanding" citizen hanging out with bad people but I know a few CMU/CWU that hung out in slums. though the no slums unless underclass law was cancer

This is the case if you aren't on duty they wouldn't care what u did in the slums

Often, no, but I'm sure it could have changed since I didn't really play the last year of Willard before v2 ended. Initially you were never allowed and it was that way for years, when I was CMU FL I allowed it under those conditions but that was ignored by CPs regardless

Just adding, these are just Ideas. Keep brainstortming a little guys. Maybe someone got that 3am Idea we need lol.
Lets try to make the best out of V3
