show characters RP full name next to user name in OOC chat

Helps with metagame imo. You can just copy their steamid from the scoreboard

Eh. Who's going to meta-game the OOC player with their IC character? I have the same problem as @PEANUT where I want to continue an OOC conversation but can't find who to DM. Maybe add a /pmooc command so you can PM the player instead of their in-character name.

Find them through discord. Adding character names allows for easier metagame.

You'd be surprised from how many times it has happened. Say you have OOC beef with someone - it is a lot easier to find their characters and do shit to them IC'ly with names attached. Along with admin-characters, factions hidden from the scoreboard, etc.

But if you wanna find out if LE SECRET FACTION or 'x' is online all you have to do is PM them using their OOC name.

You can already to this with the /pm command, however I will forward this to the developers incase they have any input on the topic.

I believe it was made this way in order to avoid metagame; I would like CM input before doing anything with this.

Maybe for recognized characters only, ones which you know the full real name of and not recognized with a fake name in use should only appear with this. Other than that, you should not be able to see anyone's name

I've never seen a HL2RP server have an option to PM users by steam name.

I've seen it. A separate command called /pmooc

If you grab the persons Steamid via left clicking on their icon you can pm them that way pm already does what this asks.

I am heading towards a denial of this suggestion. Seems like there really is nothing worth adding here. Reading through, you can already pm people via ID or by char name, so this is a bit of a redundant suggestion. Would also hate seeing IC names next to OOC names, Ewwww, no thank you.

a /pms(team) command to PM steam names would be nice. Otherwise, every few weeks we'll have this suggestion pop up again

Well yes, but you could just fetch a person steamid very easily with opening scoreboard and getting steamID. Then pop that person a message. I would rather dev resources be used on more useful things and this is in no way useful, another low priority item to be left untouched for up to a year or so.

That is just my personal opinion on the matter. Like a suggestion can keep popping up only to get shotdown again because it isn't going to make progress move any faster than it is right now. That is the cold hard truth of the matter.

I am going to decline this suggestion for now. Use SteamID or Char name for PMs and all that jazz.
