The Vortessence Menu
Written by Equinox
Thanks to our wonderful devs, we now have a vortessence feature for vortigaunts! This is a major change for the vortigaunt faction, and presents a real advantage for the vortigaunt faction that will truly encapsulate what the vortessence is meant to be.

Understandably, there are huge implications with such a feature, and we have decided to lay out a set of rules as to how this feature is meant to be used, in much the same way that Civil Protection have standards for using their features. Along with this will be a general guide on how to use the Vortessence Menu.

The general purpose of this menu is to act as a hint for other vortigaunts, which falls into what the vortessence is meant to be on a practical level. The vortessence for vortigaunts on our server is meant to be that "gut feeling" that one may have, feeling that something is "off" or that something is more than what it seems. It is not a clear indicator of certain info or a literal pool of knowledge that vortigaunts can just effortlessly pull from.

The Vortessence Menu Rules and Guide
The Vortessence Menu is meant to be a roleplay tool, not a tool for direct communication, metagaming clear info off others, etc. The following is prohibited when using the vortessence menu:
General Rules
1. Do not communicate directly with other players. The vortessence menu is not a radio or a form of text communication.
2. For anything you add, do not list out the exact details as to what happened. The Vortessence Menu isn't a public journal or billboard. Info in here should be vague, not exact or super clear.
3. Use proper grammar and spelling when using the vortessence menu.
4. The vortessence menu is an IC feature. Do not push low effort entries into it. Essentially, don't be a minge.
5. You may include contradictory, or inaccurate notes based on your character's perception of an event.
6. Do not take direct OOC action (PMing a player, talking in OOC) if you believe an entry is breaking the rules or shouldn't exist. Contact the faction leads.
7. Under almost no circumstance are you to post images or relay info from the vortessence menu through OOC means. This will be considered metagame, and will be dealt with as such. An exception to this is of course is when presenting info to a faction lead for a report.
8. If your vortigaunt dies, you cannot post any entries relating to events that transpired in the last hour. Be sure to delete, or have a faction lead delete any entries made by you in that last hour.
9. You may only add info that your character themselves witnessed, not what another character witnessed.
10. Other characters are the only ones you may post the actual names of (read Character Entry Rules). You may not post the names of groups, organizations, or anything else.

Character Entry Rules

1. Do not enter a name of a character unless your vortigaunt knows their name.
2. Vice versa, if your character knows a character's name, include their name at the beginning of the entry.
3. Do not post exactly what a character does in an entry. Instead, state how the character is, and the general feeling/aura they give off.
4. An exception to 3 is when a character kills a vortigaunt. If you witness a character kill a vortigaunt, you can detail that they killed a vortigaunt, and who the vortigaunt was.
5. You may include more detail in character notes if it's another vortigaunt character, as vortigaunts are more connected to each other in the vortessence.

Event Entry Rules
1. As stated in the General Rules, do not list out exactly how an event happened. Instead, state the feeling/aura that the event gave off and the general location that it happened in.
2. You may list characters who were located in or impacted by the event, though only if you actually interacted with them. As stated before, only mention names if you knew them.

Examples of Usage
Jin'Loch witnesses Bob Joe kill Lok'i.
Entry: "Bob Joe has severed the vortal coil of Lok'i."

Jin'Loch witnesses Bob Joe savagely beat, but not kill, another human or vortigaunt out of anger.
Entry: "Bob Joe gives off an aura of fury and violence."

Jin'Loch makes friends with Joe Bob.
Entry: "Joe Bob has a positive light about them."

Jin'Loch witnesses a citizen who looks ugly and stinks, but doesn't know their name. The citizen hates the Combine, and works as a janitor for a bar.
Entry: "A hideous and malformed human of putrid scent. They are at odds with the Enslavers, their presence felt in an establishment of human poisons."

Jin'Loch talks to Karen Lee. She is a collaborator, a loyalist.
Entry: "The Karen Lee is in harmony with the Enslavers."

Jin'Loch meets a tall, bald, muscular man. He detests vortigaunts with a passion, insulting them often.
Entry: "A tall, hairless, swollen human. The male gives an aura of hate for our kin."

Jin'Loch is nearly killed by the man mentioned before, beaten with an inch of his life.
Entry: "The tall, hairless, swollen human has nearly severed the coil of Jin'Loch."

10 minutes later, the man returns and kills Jin'Loch.
Entry: N/A. Entry cannot be made as Jin'Loch perished. The previous entry is then deleted for falling within the 1 hour frame.

Despite there being an "X" mark that seems to be used for deletion, pressing it does nothing. Who carries out these deletions?
