As it stand right now, any search conducted by any person is the equivalent of being strip searched/cavity searched by the enforcer. There is no established system of trying to sneak things past or hide things on your character even when the search is nothing more than a simple frisk. Searchers aren't having you take off your shoes and searching every square inch of your body during routine traffic stops, yet they have full unlimited access to your inventory whenever they occur.

To fix this, I'd like to suggest the adding of this optional Concealment System and have it added to the rules.

-If a player has things in their inventory that they would like to try to hide, they first need to inform the officer with a /me. For example, after the searcher has started a /me for the search and are seeking RP approval to search, a player could respond with the following:

"/me has hidden a blade in her left sock that she has attempted to conceal."
After this the woman hiding the blade would do a skill roll of agility.

The results of this roll would be countered by the searcher with them doing a perception roll. If the searchers perception roll beats the agility roll of the person trying to hide said item that item is discovered. This repeats for all the items that person is trying to hide.

-Any scripts larger than two inventory spaces cannot be concealed and are automatically discovered during a search.

I suggest having a system like this fleshed out because the art of smuggling things and sneaking things around the city is one of an sophisticated nature, and it seems as if there is a lot of RP potential lost with the prospect of trying to hide things on your person. For those of you who are doubting the ability to hide items of contraband on one person alone, watch any prison shakedown video on Youtube and amaze yourself with how good people can get at hiding things.

I quite like this tbh, I mean there's the potential for meta but it's better than being caught and amp'd.

Makes Rebel RP more interesting, and would actually let you move shit into the city semi-safely if you had somebody with a good skill in agility. As opposed to rn, which would just make it suicide, or at best a flip of the coin.

Tbh, I always thought higher smuggling and by extent agility you had, some items would automatically conceal themselves lol.

the solution might be as follows.

much like you have items like the bags that increase inventory space, you have items that grant you effectively a 'safe' slot or two that allow you to place items there that can't be found. this could represent something placed into the lining of a jacket or into a false heel of a shoe.

That was actually my original suggestion but due to the amount of devwork that would take I feared a denial regardless of how many might have agreed. But yeah a real small like 2x2 'Concealment Space' would be kinda cool. Something only you can see.

too much, im thinking 1x1 or 2x1 max, that would be more realistic.

If this concealment space would exist, there needs to be a way to search that too for any CP's or others

It shouldn't be just like a regular ol'suitcase or anything sort of thing, attribute or a skill roll automatically when you open to search, cool down like hour or two, ( same period as the vort ping. ) long cooldown for the roll that is for finding the hidden compartments and smuggling stuff.

This is probably the most simple solution, but still will require development work (which means it'll probably won't happen in the near future).

How about pat-downs don't show character inventories and just tell the cop...
"There is nothing suspicious felt on this person..." - Person has no big items like a large scrap item or a weapon.
"There is a noticeable bulge felt on this person..." - Person has a big item(s) like a large scarp item or a weapon.

Basically cops would have to tie someone up if they want to inventory search people. "Pat-downs" like ones where the unit doesn't tie the person and simply does a character search should not show the person's inventory but rather just alert the unit of any possible discrepancies.

The way CP's should be able to search this would be as follows.

The CP's would first have to know that the person would have an item that is used to hide which they reasonably would not know, having items which are labelled as an item to hide stuff would be Meta'd, i can promise that.

where they might find out a hidden item would be a full strip search of the person and their equipment which would be done in an isolated room, for good reason and it might not even yield the desired result

For it to be realistic, it’d definitely have to be two slots side by side, to make it so whatever is concealed, is actually small enough to be hidden, to stop the good old meme of **AR2 (HIDDEN)

I think 2 slots up and down would be really good and its makes sense

a 2x1 would be accurate.

i mean, the best example of people effectively hiding weapons would be the Danish resistance in WW2, where they hid Sleeve guns about themselves that were almost impossible to find without a full and endogenous search of a person.

Just stuff things in the heel of your shoe. That's what they did to smuggle coke into the US.

I think the best way we are able to see something like this come to life is if we base it in RP/rules not mechanics/development. Devs are busy as is. But I like the conversations going on surrounding the idea.

When you are doing a very thorough search, such as when they go into the Nexus. You should be able to check that. Atr rolls shouldnt matter then.

it depends on where it is hidden, if someone has hollowed out the heel of their shoe or the brim of their hat to hide a razor or small contraband, The combine aren't going to rip apart your clothes piece by piece to sniff out contraband.

a few 'Serious RP' servers have used this method before where players can have slots that are never able to be searched, and it makes sense, the only conditions in which they could be found were if the combine spent a long time fine-combing their clothing, belongings etc etc, and to do this the combine would need a good reason to hold up a bunch of units to search one guy.

Furthermore, the issue with having concealed items searchable is that it opens a floodgate to Metagaming.

Equally, if anyone here played CombineControl when it was around. They had a skill that could be applied to a character called 'Spy', which was an Rp-based skill in that, if you had a small item like a knife or a radio or such, when a CP searched you, they would ask you/you would inform them that you had this skill and they would turn a blind eye as if they had not found it, i think there were two variations of this, one was cooldown based and the other was you could have a one-slot that was never searchable.

I remember the glory days of Combine Control. Makes me wish we had a perk system like that. Maybe have it tied to a skill level of sorts and depending on that level you could right click on a set number of scripts and click something like 'Conceal'. I know it's wishful thinking but aye, cool ideas.

"I simply say my blade is hidden in my shoe if I'm searched. Or sprint away like it wasn't there if I get the opportunity to run" - smuggling rp thought process.
