What do you think of a wipe?

Should there be a wipe? (items, chars, etc)

I’m neutral at the stance of a wipe, would mean I get another chance at Civil Protection though.

not in favour of a character wipe, but in favour of an item wipe for rebels once the balancing changes are made- maybe not a total wipe, but definitely getting rid of the OP guns

Not sure how applicable my experience is to HL2RP, but on a different server, in a different game, with a different theme, the admins went through with this very thing. A complete reset of characters, a new scene and timeframe, new lore with the pre-reset lore working into it, the works. It was this event - in my opinion - that caused that community's downfall. Any major reset of established character lore and development will come with inevitable attrition of people not wanting to re-make a new character from scratch.

In my opinion, resets only treat the symptoms that cause them to be considered (stagnation, lack of effective RP etc.) instead of treating the root cause of these issues. I don't know what the proper solution is, but I know that resets aren't effective in the long-term, as eventually everyone will settle back to the status quo that caused the problem before, with the major difference being a chunk of your playerbase quit after their characters were wiped the first time, so there's less people to help try to freshen things up.

Either way, all of my previous experiences with top-down server resets have been wholly negative; they do not solve enough issues to warrant the larger scale disruption they bring to the playerbase, and so I can't in good faith support them.

That won't really be a long term solution since rebels can just travel to the outlands like taking a day trip and just roll to get some free guns

Something that has to be changed too.
I've heard rebels get extremely op weapons from expeditions

I feel like an item wipe would only demotivate rebel players. I'm in favor of all sides having an enjoyable experience so I'm not really a big fan of rebels having such OP guns that can just shit on CPs and fucking over their characters either. But there's a huge chance that rebel mains would just simply give up if we do a item wipe.

Weapons like Assaults Rifles needs to be rare. It doesn't make sense that Rebels are able to horde rifles while CPs/OTA get destroyed by them. Plus in lore, it would make a lot more sense if those weapons were locked away in a HIGHLY secured area by the Combine. Them being so easily obtainable is really damaging to CP/OTA players.

This isn't to say that rebels shouldn't have rifles at all. They can be obtainable but they should be rare. If rebels are going to attempt to grab a rifle or two on the expeditions server, they need to fight tooth and nail for it. Not kill a few CP/OTA NPCs. Use actual Overwatch players for them to fight against. Risk needs to be higher if they want a rifle that can literally turn the tide of a skirmish within the City.

As I said before, CPs and Rebels should, for the most part, be on par with each other. Both mainly having weak armor compared to OTA, both using mostly SMGs or pipes guns, etc. And seeing how complex and huge slums is now, it's going to be more difficult for CPs to fight and locate a rebel. All it takes is a few turns and CPs will lose sight of them.

Edit: And by the way, whoever is doing the expeditions and giving rebels such OP weapons, can I recommend maybe giving them weapons like USP, MP5, MP7, MP5K? Doesn't have to always be weapons either. It can be ammo or materials for other items. For them to just get rifles out of it literally damages the motivation for CP players to play at all because their char is at risked of being lost so easily. And it's honestly such a joke because of how ridiculous it is.

I'll put it bluntly; whatever you wipe people are going to quit and walk away - that's unavoidable.

But only an item wipe would be far worse because it won't fix the core issues that made a wipe have to be considered to begin with and you'd effectively be resetting RebelRP back to 0 and nobody else. I agree that RebelRP needs sorting and things need to make a sharp left turn but half-measures will be worse here.

just make rebel RP more dangerous? it's clear this is the main reason for even considering a wipe. rebel characters shouldn't be lasting months on end, they should be being hunted down and killed as soon as they begin making obvious moves.

What? It's not a matter of rebels being alive for too long. They can live as long as they play it smart and not get caught. Completely up to In-Character. It's a matter of weapon balance, script grinding, loot, expeditions, etc. Rebel RP is already dangerous enough.

The issue is Rebels can do 1-2 weeks of grinding then get a rifle by the end of it. And as mentioned before, a bunch of them are just getting OP weapons, throwing off the balance between them and CPs and even the OTA. There has to be even ground for Rebels and CPs to stand on for the most part.

i quite like wiping in the bathroom.

a full on wipe would kill the server, no debate needed.

Why is a char wipe even on the table? What problem does that even solve?

If the rebels are the core of the issue consider forcing them to keep all the heavy gear you would otherwise wipe out in an "stash outside the city" that they can only access for expeditions and events outside the city, which would make as much sense as the public lockers and is probably a less antagonizing compromise for rebel mains.

the balancing changes includes making it not do easy to get them too

Character Wipe?
No
No
Just No...

One: all Developed Rebels, Loyalists, Doctors ext. Would be wiped which lot likely will have multiple people leaving the server entirely especially if they have been there for three months or more.

Two: The server would Die end of story

Neutral Stance because there's already a functional (albeit targeted) wipe method integrated via PKs. Full reset seems silly to consider until maybe after the timeline catches up to Half Life 2, and even then seeing what comes from a stable city in an unstable world could be fascinating.

Step 1: Write lore piece for a radical freedom movement
Step 2: Make a lot of explosive compound and padded jackets
Step 3: form a group using your own characters min-maxed to fuck
Step 4: give each one a bomb jacket
Step 5: blow up other peoples characters that they have put hard work into only to pk them
Step 6: ????
Step 7: profit off the salt generated

I'll put peoples mind to rest on the wipe, we have no plans on doing such a thing. At the moment we're focused on quality of life, scaling back on bloat and weapon balances. Handful of weapons in the ongoing update will be removed as it is a nightmare to balance them. Lost weapons will be refunded/replaced. More info on that update will arrive in a devblog when we're closer to it

I know the admins at the moment are very present on pushing City RP improvements, so we'll see where things go but I can confirm there's no wipe in mind
