Problem:
City 24 v4 has a few housing blocks with multiple apartments within them yet players never seem to want to rent one or use them. I've asked both ICly and OOCly why this is and most of them give me the same answer: Rent Prices That being said I believe this hurts Housing Block Roleplay which may as well be dead in the water. I'm not asking players to be forced to own apartments but some of the best roleplay I've experienced in Half-Life 2 has been passive backstory/character relations being built from the ground up by sitting in the apartments from various city maps.

Invite your friends to your place, decorate, throw a party/meeting, log off inside it to "sleep". I feel like the idea of owning your own home is overlooked on the server because people are put off by the rent. Some have told me they worry they will go on a hiatus or stop playing and the rent will ruin their credit score. Others are just unsure if it's worth it altogether.

Suggestion:
Lower the Rent Price or remove it entirely to promote apartment owning.
In place of Rent, having player activity could determine if they are able to keep their apartment so inactive players don't hoard them.

Better yet don't allow Underclass citizens an apartment complex. Let it be standard for the average citizen to have an opportunity.

first off, fuck this specifically, my character is underclass and its impossible to fuckin get up from 70 points to over 100 going 1 at a time because you get reduced shit for being underclass. I admit the rent bit is shitty but im still able to pay it, the monthly rent is NOT bad at all its 35 credits give or take if you solo but only 15 if you are with roomates, sure its expensive n shit but everything is in the server, not sure why but it is. Regardless the balance is okay right now, i'd admit the argument you're making is acceptable but dont fuck the underclass over more then they already are, its impossible to get out from underclass as is, making them not able to have an apartment is just scummy at that point.

Have you tried simply not being underclass

We will most likely be adding 1 permanent container and 1 permanent stove for free in each apartment, as well as some other miscellaneous things to make apartments more fun, so that may make them a bit more worthwhile to purchase. If we do that we'll probably keep the rent price as-is, considering all the benefits you'll be getting.

Now I shouldn't be one to talk but, have you tried simply just, not getting to the point where you get underclassed? It honestly isn't that hard.

Now on the other hand, I fully support this suggestion.

Believe me its impossibly hard when you wanna actually ya know, open up a few avenues of rp and not be bored out of your damn mind, so you occasionally craft and such. Sure loyalist rp isnt bad but its boring and repetitive unless you suck a cp's dick every 4 hours so you can get more points. And even then one wrong look at a unit and you could get a beating. Prime example earlier today i got shot down to about 65 points because of a thing that happened the day before, but they couldn't remove points from me the day before, due to the limit. of loss. So it got super fucking scummy and i lost all of the points i had gained the day before.

Point is, shits gay, you get punished for tiny things the moment you go under 100 Credit

The 35 tokens rent isn't an issue since you share that with whoever is your roommate, the problem starts when you try to figure out who your roommate is and how to make sure everyone will pay their share. The computer gives you their CIDs, but not their names for some reason, and since I haven't crossed any of them in the past week, I'm led to believe they just lulrented the place and then went AWOL.

With that in mind, I get what they went for when they made the system randomly select an apartment for you, but I feel like it would make for better interaction if I could just rent a place with someone I already know.

Weirdly enough i guess its more accurate to lore as the only reason the combine relocate you, isolate you and keep you together is so they can snuff out any semblance of resistance among you before it grows too big. But yeah it would be a lot better to get your pick of apartment.

I don't mean choosing what place you get, that makes sense. What I mean is that since I doubt I'll even get to know whoever is supposed to share my room, I can just allow someone who is active and I already know, it's better roleplay, and faster.
  • Or at the very least, let me know their names so I don't have to ask everyone in the server for their CIDs.

Good idea yeah i like that. but as neonity said. Work around, message their CID's it shows the name

Workaround: Try to send a letter to their CID, and it will show you their name + ask for confirmation.
I tried the cheaper option and just left a note inside the apartment since there are two mysterious co-tenants, still no sign of them. What I really need to know is what happens if I'm the only one paying my share of the total rent? Do I still get evicted?

Doesn't solve the glitch where if the original owner of the apt doesn't pay, everyones access is removed.

Plus the DB spazing out means that sometimes you lose access for 0 reason.

Should make apartments free in general, but give better benefits to loyalist apartments (and keep those free, the system is already in place for all of this btw).

This mitigates the "random loss of key" issue and also keeps incentives in place; aka the want to be a loyalist is still there (since they'd get medium containers and stoves and maybe even a coffee machine for free in their apts).

It's almost like once you lose favor to the evil multiversal alien empire it's hard to regain their trust and the benefits with it. You've fallen down in a society that punishes those it seems useless. Welcome to a dystopian society.

Yes well at the point its it it shouldn't be impossible to gain favor again, its kinda at the point that when you hit below 100 points you're better off making a new character. And throwing it away because you wont ever easily get those points back.

That's just a bad mindset to go about it. Use that as motivation to resist, Or try to double down and work back up to society if you can. No one said the trust will just be given back to you. You're now underclass. Anyways this is not the thread for that discussion. I think that Underclass citizens should not be allowed Apartments/Housing. It's a privilege, not a right, at least under the Combine's rule.

To be fair sure, it is, but in an ooc standpoint it segregates the playerbase too hard, its far too easy to become underclass from normal citizen. And with units being fuckboys lately searching anyone they see going in and out of the slums gate. (I literally got searched 8 times in a row today cause i was going in and out) Its just not fun what so ever to be underclass, its a massive issue of segregating players, and with the state rebel rp is at now, with the economic standpoint of indigent in ruins due to the new bmd system. You literally are unable to survive feasibly there. The economy ground to a halt with so many people just stopping playing. Giving more reason to tuck players off to their own corner of the map to not interact with the general populous is not good.

Sure lore wise it makes sense, but in an ooc standpoint you're just gonna give players reason to fuck off from the server and not come back if they cant play a developed character because they lose literally everything when they drop below 100 points.

this would be great and would def encourage roleplay in apartments, +1

Segregating the classes isn't a negative thing, you're missing the point of a class system. I've come across the Underclass who D E S P I S E loyalists for their position, and they stick to the slums. Players aren't going to be bored in slums unless they chose to be. Plenty of opportunities for them to develop their characters with other slums dwellers/underclass.

If your character is underclass and you want a loyalist but don't want to put the work in just make another. I don't understand why you think it's unfair/flawwed. IC is IC as they say.
