| -BACKSTORY- Keim Rider was a natural born, genuine prodigy. Very early in infancy he displayed subtle signs of autism. Aversion to eye contact, a lack of emotion on his face. He received an official diagnosis only a couple years old, during a time in which mental illness was still heavily stigmatized. Thankfully, he was born to a very loving family who adored him just the way he was. As it turned out, his diagnosis wouldn’t hold him back at all. He was high-functioning, and although he didn’t make many friends in school or enjoy socializing in general, he excelled in every class other than art and rocketed to the top of the honor roll. He learned to play the piano in less than a year, and after taking several standardized IQ tests, was found to have an IQ slightly higher than Albert Einstein’s supposed IQ*. Paired with a nearly eidetic memory, Keim is a walking library. The one person who understood him better than anyone else, and notably helped him develop his socialization skills, was his little sister Maya, born a little over a year after he was. Thanks to her and his loving, supportive parents, he was on track to likely some day become a leading scientist in physics or perhaps biochemistry. Unfortunately, tragedy struck his family when he was twelve years old. No dramatic story to tell, no theatre–A simple fire burned his family home to the ground, with his family within. He desperately tried to pull his little sister to safety, which left him with deep burns that left him scarred to this day, but sadly, he was unsuccessful. After this incident, Keim changed for the worse. Psychologists diagnosed him with antisocial personality disorder. He developed sociopathic tendencies and began to feel very little empathy for other people, and locking away his own emotions became second nature to him–to the point that he doesn’t seem to have any. He was not born this way, so it is still possible for him to form attachments and feel things for others, but it is far more difficult than it is for most. He went to live with his extended family, whom he had very little attachment to. They did not show him nearly as much support, but he was not treated badly. He graduated highschool several years earlier than his peers, and received a community college diploma in physics. However, the scars that were left upon him, both mentally and physically, could not be helped by any amount of therapy. He turned eventually to the military world, and enlisted himself into a private military company, where he hoped to use his brilliant mind for strategy and tactics. He had finished all of their basic training programs, but had not been deployed anywhere besides a couple of small security contracts before the seven hour war began. For years, he lay in wait, slowly formulating intricate plans in his mind, trying to come up with the smartest ways to thwart the combine and allow humanity to thrive. Only recently has he become active in those endeavors, starting to finally put those plans to action. Finally. Progress. Advancement. I am moving forwards. Things have been set in motion, after all this time. It wont be long now. "No. More than a turtle. You gave me a reason to remember things I'd long forgotten how to feel." All of these feelings...Coming back to me. I had forgotten what it felt like. To love. 'The Handyman'. He gets the job done. *A small note regarding his IQ (and IQ in general): Experts have said for ages that IQ isn't actually a great indicator of all things 'intelligence', it's a measure of very specific parts of cognitive abilities--spacial and pattern recognition for example. Einstein's IQ is estimated to be between 160-180. One in 11,000 people score an IQ of 160, and one in 3.5 million score 180, so shockingly enough, Einstein's IQ wasn't quite as uncommon as people might think. In real life, we currently have people with as high as 230 IQ. |
