Plain and simple, the Multi-tool.

a craft for it would be really simple, I'd would be an RP-item as its multiple functionalities would be a headache for devs to implement, its crafting method shouldn't be too difficult but should be costly, e.g.:

- 1 EMP tool
- 1 Combine battery (new item, just a script variant of the Combine_battery script from Half life 2)
- Metal workbench
- wrench
- 20 electronics (please find more uses for these)

Function: pretty much as seen in game, maybe with a chance associated with it? , can whois and store information, be used to deactivate forcefields but with a cooldown, unlock caches and other things.

I support multi-tools but only done as like a research project for a group. Such as getting information on and dissecting various Combine technology items, then you can build a basic version of the Multitool which can be upgraded.

In my opinion, Multi-Tools would just have too much power at hand with already given craftables that don't rely on the whole "RP item" category, and it makes me think back on what @Raptorian had said above; an idea of having a group project where players do research every now and then, the concept of how people could do research for their part of the assignment at certain points during the game sounds amazing - I'm all for it!

And for it being craftable, it makes sense that people might favor the Multi-Tool at first glance since it's one of the more potent tools. But, combining talents and researching from all perspectives? Building such an instrument would take however long predetermined in-game. It sounds like the idea of unlocking such a powerful tool will take some time to come about. It's worth investing resources for it, but I'm sure we can do without such a powerful tool for now, in favor of the devs focusing on other probable aspects or downright including more scripts to compensate for this item. But being able to disable and enable force fields sounds really nice for a change.

But as for me, I believe the Multi-Tool is just as useful as an RP item, the same as the EMP Device is, and for it to be acquired through actual effort and not bound specifically to a high level of crafting. So I propose that those who want a Multi-Tool go through proper progression stages for it rather than making it available for crafting to everybody. This way everyone has a fair playing ground, and I reckon there are many possible additions you could also consider without relying on its availability.

maybe combine the two:
the craft suggested gets you the frame of the multi-tool, like it could be used as a rechargeable EMP but with a cooldown (RP item). And if you want the more interesting functionalities you need co-operative research to obtain them.

I suggested it to ONLY be an RP-item, not a functioning script.

Furthermore, something like this would and should require high-crafting as your effectively meshing two technological species together into a hybrid device. the whole point of the skill system is to give everyone a fair playing ground, you can level up and spec into whatever you choose, and this would be something that would be angled towards the tinkers and such.

My reaction does not necessarily decide the outcome of a suggestion - I don't review suggestions on my own.

Does no one know the EMP Device allows this function? Shutting down forcefields (Without alerting CPs) just for a short time though.

Anyway, this sounds like an O-K idea and I can add it... but it will be a while til it actually comes into play on main server given the power of this item.

The EMP device does, but it is also a one use is it not?
The idea behind this is a much more advanced Variation for it that allows for some modularity and something that isn't one use.

i actually like the idea of it being used as a sort of costly way for a rechargable EMP device at its basic form, and then the players having to do expeditions/etc to upgrade it further.

that's the idea.

its a progression item, something that is lacking and should exist on the server

Denied.

We think this tool would be far too overpowered in-game, and, as mentioned, would take a lot more time, resources, and manpower to create, rather than just a few electronic parts and a bench. We only see a single character use this device in the Half-Life Universe, so it's probably not easy to make. We also don't really see the real use of this, considering most of the features mentioned can already be performed with other tools.
