What do you think of the new i17 PK rules?

Personally, I like them. It’s mixing up things, making it less of the same characters constantly. They aren’t really unfair, as it’s not hard to not be PKed if you’re not looking for trouble. They also clear out a lot of clutter with PK appeals, if I’m correct I’ve noticed a lot less since the rules came out. Best part is they’re super simple, quite literally anyone can understand them.

I hope they cross over to C24, what about you guys?

I have grown to like it after initially being on the fence about it. These PK rules are straightforward and fair to everyone. No endless debates on which exact PK criteria was met, which is a welcome change.

I hope to see these tried out in C24 as well.

Stern, but just. Unforgiving, but fair.

Saves many people the time and energy.

HOT TAKE INCOMING!!! Remove PK Auths with the new system and it's gonna be YUUUGE.

By making a character, you acknowledge that said character's choices may have consequences, up to and including death. This is an accepted fact from the get go and as such, any and all RPd deaths should be PKs. This new system is great

I had a conversation with one of the guys who died and we spoke about grieving for the character. Psychologically, people that are attached will likely not play for a little while - but that's OK. Once they come back, they'll be level-headed and willing to take on something new.

I see the new rules as a big success, one that's representative for all factions (even as far for Overwatch until I realised that it kinda was a bit buggy if you do with OTA.)

So, no faction was spared. Everyone was given the option to pull out, but each pulled through anyway. That's the nature of what HL2RP is; you could die at any moment in a fight, and if you die - well, we have PK appeals. :p

PK auths aren't really a thing anyway (as honestly barely anyone uses them). Most PK's are judged in the moment by an overseeing admin.

Anyway, it's nice to read the feedback here. I know the new policy was written before everyone had filled in the survey but the picture was already pretty clear at that point in which direction we should go. Now I am getting confident it really was the right direction to go in. Yesterday especially was a big test and I'm happy to wake up without any alerts for PK appeals (on top of the 2 we already had yesterday). And honestly my main concern was that the protections offered against 'random' PK's would be lessened (due to innocent bystander deaths in combat) but those haven't actually happened so far.

Just have to see that the factions can properly handle bad days such as yesterday, otherwise I think we are good to basically adopt the policy 1-to-1 for C24. Maybe just tweak some things regarding TBC being off/getting dragged into ongoing S2K fights (bit of a grey area atm) and see what rules OTA are going to follow.

I don't think yesterday was a "bad day" per se. A lot of deaths means a lot of action, and a lot of char-dev for the survivors. I expect today'll have a few less people on as folks grieve over lost characters, but we'll see a lot of fresh faces and fresh ideas in the coming days, no doubt.

The removal of complex PK rules gives a sense of finality in that moment. You don't see the "You are dead screen" and think to hop to the forums, you come to terms with what just happened, and start the process of moving onto a new character in a much smoother fashion, without the doubts that the PK wont stick.

Also I think a big part was the forewarning beforehand. The one admin message just clarifying "If you die, it will be a PK." helped solidify what people were wondering in the moment. I certainly realised the stakes and had the thought of pulling out when it was sent, but decided it was a worthy cause to be PKd for, and pressed on regardless, earning me said PK. A good ending, and a good day overall.

Thing is also that a lot of higher-up ranks died in e.g. Civil Protection. Those people all going back to i5 puts things in flux, which isn't always good. It might not end up being a problem (likely also depends on if we have more eventful days in the near future), but always good to keep an eye on it. Plus the policy already kind of includes the rule that people can request a new character at their old rank (or some lower rank) via char auth if it really becomes necessary.

Okay, this makes sense. If a position has OOC responsibility, I can understand having the OOC position be protected so the player can still create a new char in said position. The old char should still catch the PK, though.

You're welcome. I look forward to expanding it to all factions when we're back on C24...

All factions.
