I love C24 V1, It had so much cool stuff.

Keep in mind that I am *very* biased when it comes to V1, it was the map used when I first started playing HL2 RP, I have a ton of good memories of it, it is likely that my nostalgia is preventing me from remembering the bad parts about the map.

I remember one of the first memories I had of HL2 RP was escaping the city with the help of some random citizen I met in the sewers. The cops had disabled the hard light bridge leading to the slum section of the map. The random citizen and I had never seen the other half of the map, we worked together to get rid of the hopper mines under the bridge, eventually reaching the other side only to find that the pipe leading into the sewers had been sealed shut, I chose to boost my new friend up, allowing him to escape the city while I stayed behind. It was amazing.

At the time the map was being used, Willard Industries was the main research faction, they had this amazing lab below the surface very similar to the city 8 lab. It wasn't connected to the nexus at all, all it took to break into the lab was a key card and a trip down an elevator. I WISH we had something like this on V4, all the BRI has is a bunch of empty rooms and a few offices.

In the middle of the city was a massive office complex that connected each of the main worker groups (CWU on the left side, Willard Industries at the top middle, and CMU on the right side). This location would be turned into the RDC in V3 and would remain that way in V4, the Willard Industries lab would be removed as well.

This is where most rebels hung out, this place was usually filled with all sorts of people. I remember making my own little market stall here and selling the things I found while exploring. I loved being able to do stuff like that without having to worry that cops would rush over and kill me for selling to rebels. This part of the map was far from the city, cops and OTA would need to really plan stuff out if they wanted to attack this place, and that was great. The lake was also great, it served as a way for rebels to enter and leave the city ICly, sometimes a caravan would come through on a boat to sell things, and sometimes rebels would ride a boat out on the lake to go on a trip, the only exit V4 has is behind a force field.

I remember how loyalist housing was handled back then, after you reached a certain tier, you would be granted a keycard that could open loyalist locks, so you could only enter the loyalist apartments if you were actually a loyalist. Back then I had never reached the point requirement, so I always wondered what the apartments were like, I didn't go into sandbox to spoil it for myself until much later.

The city felt real, which made it great for rebels. The massive scale forced the civil protection response times to be lower, allowing rebels to have a much higher chance of survival when doing illegal stuff. The roads were designed for cops to drive APCs on, they could get to the scene of a crime quickly by driving one of these, just like a police car. It looked amazing seeing cops driving APCs down the road, screaming for people to get out of the way. On V4 the map is tiny, cops can respond and arrive at the scene of a crime instantly, victory and triumph are two tiny straight roads. If you try doing something illegal in V4 and someone inevitably reports you, chances are that you will die with little chance of escaping, but on V1 cop response times were realistic, you had a chance to get away from the scene of the crime before cops even knew anything happened.

The biggest problem people had with V1 was its massive size, even during periods of time where a ton of people were on it still felt empty. I feel that the massive size of the city had some positive and negative effects:

+The massive size was realistic, it looked like an actual city.
+The roads allowed for cops to drive around APCs, which added to the atmosphere, I haven't seen any cops drive around an APC on V4, ever.
+The size allowed rebels to do illegal stuff in the city with a higher chance at escaping due to CP response times being longer, even if you get snitched, you have a good chance of escape.
+The massive size was amazing for exploration, it felt awesome to escape the city by crawling through a minefield, I felt like I had accomplished something important.
+Instead of being forced to have their HQ in the sewers, the rebels could live in the slums/outlands section of the map, they had the freedom to have little community interactions like setting up a player run market place or a public boxing ring. The distance from the city allowed rebel players to roleplay things that would be impossible to do on V4 due to how close together everything is.
+Loyalist apartments had a point; They were right next to the RDC while the non-loyalist apartments were farther away.
+While some people might think its boring, I think being forced to walk from place to place is important. It makes you *feel* like you are doing something, even if it is as simple as walking from your crappy apartment over to the RDC only to find out you still have to wait another hour. On V4 you can get from the slums to the RDC in a minute, even less if you sprint.

-Finding players could be difficult, it was a massive world and it really sucks not being able to interact with people because you can't even find them.
-It kept the player base separate, the distance between the outlands and RDC is massive.
-The presence of an outlands enables rebels to remain outside the city indefinitely, meaning they contribute nothing to city RP asides from when they venture into the city to do illegal stuff.
-Walking forever is boring as hell.
-Probably more stuff I can't think of.

I want to think that the map could be edited to work with the current player base and theme of the server, but I have no idea.

Please post your thoughts on the map, I want to know if anyone feels the same as me or if there are flaws I have forgotten.

me too bro me too that cross bridge outlands mfff!
If only the city portion were shrunk down to modern C24's size and we still had the stuff from V1 like the bridge/outland/ruined city.

unfortunately, the bigger the map, the less populated it seems.

How I do like the open space of V1 and V2, its true that there is a lack of seeing people crowding the streets. The only open ended map that didn't feel extremely spacious was the i17 map, it had the balance for it.
Maybe a map switch to City24_V1 when the main server is transferred to the Summit sector of the city?

Personally that's always been my headcanon, Based on the nexus/palace alone that place is Summit 24.

Incredibly cool map, but like it has already been mentioned - not fit for our playerbase numbers

#Remake C24 V 1, Atle I know you can hear me :angrycop:

Aaaah, It was very fun when I used to run around the city, trying to find a few citizens to RP with even when the population was above 40.

I'd use it for events centered around the outskirts of c24, the ruined part of the map is big enough to accommodate an expedition, I feel.

I miss last Wednesday because I had a really good sandwich and I ate it and now it’s gone :(
