More props won’t incentivise people to use their apartments more. Giving those props a use will.
A fridge, only available if you have an apartment, which can store food and never have it spoil. An oven for cooking said food, a wardrobe for storing clothing items, a clock to tell the time, a bed to restore stamina, you name it.
Props alone won’t cut it. They’ll be looked at once and then ignored. In today’s HL2RP environment everything needs a gameplay element attached to it. One way to make people use apartments is to give them unique benefits you won’t have in say, a slums apartment.
Good ideas for the playerbase and its mentality as is - bad for creating RP. Not necessarily bad per se, but like I mentioned previously I believe it's a mentality, expectation and instigation issue.
The ideas are not bad and would add something extra, but I won't get more RP out of my fridge having a functionality besides storage space, unless I'm intent on it.
But I'm all in support of the ideas - I just don't think they solve the underlying issue in regards to apartment RP.
I'd like to put something else into question for everyone to reflect upon.
Some of you have expressed a desire for curfews seemingly to both create an oppressive atmosphere, but also so that you have an option to rebel against the regime in a non-hostile way; by evading curfew patrols. And while this may be cool and interesting in theory, I'm afraid you've not considered the consequences of such.
If you are caught, you stand to be punished - that's agiven. But what may not be as immediately apparent is that your mere lack of presence may be cause for scrutiny and dismay to a lot of people, not only including yourself.
Let us for a moment imagine that ten out of fourty people are refusing to partake in the curfew. I do not think it unimaginable that the CPs would put this into question and act accordingly. This may result in elaborate ransacking or thorough searches - all of which only increases the time you have to spend being locked indoors under a watchful eye, most likely with even fewer avenues of freedom to RP now and with the increased chance of being accused, punished or even outright killed.
Again, I will state that I think curfews are a bad idea with its sole or primary purpose being that of creating an artificial atmosphere of oppression. I think they should be done few and far between and only for an actual purpose that warrants such a dramatic action. If not only to make sense narratively, then at the very least so save everyone's time and sanity.
