3: KNOWN BACKSTORY OR OTHER INFORMATION
Vivian was born in Nice, France on September 20th, 1994. In her early childhood, she had been diagnosed with Aspergers; due to this, her family held her back from playing outside with the other children. Unfortunately, this led to the condition ramping up even worse. When her parents finally admitted her to a nursery school at age six, she had to be removed the first day because she threw a toy right at another child’s head. This brought about the isolation period in her life. Her parents had plans for homeschooling and therapy for her condition. Of course, those plans were shut down due to the wide-scale invasion of Earth by the Combine. The day of the invasion, she was out of town. The cheapest cognitive therapist her family could find had been located just twenty miles north. Since both parents worked, they dropped her off and left her there for the day. The timing could not have been worse; her hometown lay barren due to the debris of the storm. The kiss she gave to her parents that day would be the last time she laid eyes on them. After the chaos and bloodshed had settled - at least, for the most part - everyone Vivian knew and loved had been disconnected from her life. She has not seen them since. Being just a child, she was vulnerable and unprotected while the human culling and relocation by the Combine occurred. Eventually, she landed on the train to City 22: Vienna. Once she arrived, the city had already been built and transformed. The child tried to run away, but was immediately stopped by a Civil Protection officer. She was lucky to have not been shot then and there. Being now forced to walk the streets alone, she hid in the slums of what used to be the Austrian capital. She was used to being alone, and this was no different. The only thing that changed was the scenery. Not but a week later did she finally find someone to take her in. Luck had finally come her way as an older lady - perhaps in her late 50s - offered her hand to the hungry child. Vivian accepted the hand without a thought, and the woman brought her back to the shoddy apartment in the slums area. “What’s your name, young one?” the lady asked in French, the juvenile's native tongue. “I… was told not to talk to strangers,” she replied, despite having taken the lady’s hand either way. “Well, I’ll introduce myself. I’m Bonnie.” She placed both hands on Vivian's own. “See? Now we’re acquainted.” “Oh… I’m Vivian,” she spoke, still hesitant. “Vivian. What an adorable name.” For the next three years, Bonnie and Vivian would live together in the slums, Bonnie acting like a motherly figure for Vivian. Over that time, she taught Vivian how to read and write - albeit crudely - and how to take care of herself, like washing and eating. Slowly, Bonnie trained her apprentice how to become independent. Just before her tenth birthday, Vivian sat at Bonnie’s apartment, waiting. Waiting. Waiting. Nobody came after three hours, and her stomach began to rumble. As she got up to get a snack, she was tall enough now to look out of the window. As if they were waiting for her to gaze down from the second-story window, Vivian watched in horror as Bonnie’s body was carried out of the slums by two Civil Protection units. She had died of a stroke. At this point in her life, she had experienced the death of many loved ones. She was desensitized to death. From that point onwards, someone being beaten by the CP or shot in the slums did not bother the child. She grew up from age ten to age twenty-three hardly surviving off of rations and whatever else she could find. Unfortunately, everything changed when she transferred to City 24 - Geneva. Everything reset: her credits, social credits, and relations. All she had was what she could fit in that suitcase she was granted before being forced on the bus to what used to be the beautiful Alpine mountains. Now with a clean slate, she seeks to rectify her behavior and attitude against the Union. |

Jenifer Maesroe Wai AkoniAn interesting individual to say the least. Every promotion I've had was by your word; I only have you to thank for my position, don't I? Ophelie Latourelle Que puis-je dire de plus? Vous êtes un leader incroyable, malgré votre apparence. Bonne chance pour la suite. Rhea Ilyava Perhaps it was a misunderstanding, or something underneath the surface. Either way, godspeed. You never deserved all that. Just keep him in line, please. Lucia Costa I know... I know. Just hang in there. You've done one hell of a job so far in the clinic; put your past behind you, I believe in you. Vanessa Lee You are... certainly an individual. I'll admit, you weren't the most appealing human I've met, but you've shown to be a good mix of responsible and irresponsible. Agatha Callos I don't quite know you enough to give a proper judgement, but you're a good worker in the CMRU from what I've seen. Claire Lavoie One of the best damn doctor I've seen of this new generation. (New generation as in, those that joined after I became director.) You take charge, you work hard... I could see you usurping my throne some day. Eleanor Marchand There's a difference between a physical fight and a mental fight, and you're duel-wielding. I respect that. |
| Heinrich Tischer You're... interesting, to say the least. That's all I'll say. Alex Weaver You were the first one to show me the ways of the City. Thank you. Randy Cole You're the prime example of 'locked in but silly', and it works. That's a compliment, by the way. Ted Kowacks You're not around too often anymore, but you put a smile on my face every time I see you. Thanks for being here. Hugh Mattock Despite everything, we were still there. You showed me everything. Through the antlions and the weather, we came out on top. It's funny how one man can make all the difference in the world. I'll remember you forever. Yann Stephan The evil genius in the flesh. You've written documents and constructed blueprints far beyond my knowledge. For that, I give my upmost respect. It's just a shame how the ministry keeps putting you down, verbally. Olivier Fournier It's unfair. It's not right. Nobody should have to go through the trials you did. I was never informed of which way your loyalty to the Union, but I can take a guess. Wherever you are, I hope you find peace. Felix Poelking What can I say? You tried your best. You've been through so many trials and procedures and worked hard... just for the Union to kick you down again. I never understood your dedication, but I still appreciate that beer you gave me at the bar back in 43. Callum Crown I can't remember much, but thanks for giving Randy those shoes. Tonio Di-Vecillo Not much to say. A simple man with simple virtues that I respect. Although, your obsessions with pre-war alternative rock bands is a little concerning. John Walker You exist. 'Synthesis' One of the best vortigaunt researchers I've had the pleasure of speaking with. Good luck with that whole... classified thing. Keim Rider We'll see how this plays out. |
