The early 2000's was rough. The U.S already had their hands full with the conflicting interests of other neighboring countries, which would have sparked the third World War if it wasn't for the coming invasion. 'Shepherd' was assigned to the U.S Rangers while deployed in the United States Army, of which he was picked for his quickness and diligent behavior during shooting drills. Before this point, he was already a Master Sergeant, of which he quickly climbed the ranks after being initiated into the Rangers.
A couple of months before the invasion had begun, Shepherd was already the commander of the Rangers. He experienced the horrors that every U.S Soldier goes through in the heat of battle, though unlike most, it didn't affect his psyche or mental state. It turned him more into a man, if anything, experiencing the art of war in front of him. Then, the invasion would hit the world.
He watched as his men were deployed into the battlefield, of which all of them would either surrender or be decimated by seven hours. 30,000 U.S Soldiers died in the blink of an eye, and the world just sat there and watched.

Once the invasion had run its course throughout the world like a plague, various soldiers in every major military was taken in as a member of Civil Protection, the more skilled soldiers turning into OTA soldiers. Though, most of them were tossed out like Shepherd, of which he and many others were turned into lower class civilians. Throughout his time in an unknown city within Eastern Europe, he learned the language of Chinese in order to communicate with a couple of Asian friends that landed in his train, of which he would keep tabs with for the next decade or so.
His education would pay off after a sudden relocation to the city of Beijing, being one of the more welcomed foreigners due to his knowledge and fluentness of the common language in the city. Throughout his time in the city, he was able to get himself into a Chinese Triad along with many others wishing to seek for a job.

"Ray"
"Another foreigner, like myself. Seems to like keeping himself level-headed and doesn't like getting into trouble. He's knowledgeable in medicine... somewhat. He's one of the first Americans I've met since I got relocated over to the city a while ago."
"Hussain"
"Yet another foreigner, founder of the 3rd Foreigners Brigade. The guy's got a Persian accent, so he's not American but speaks the language. I'm practically the only one in the entire group who speaks Chinese, so at least I'm somewhat useful to the rest. This guy doesn't really know when to keep quiet, a little bit of a racist guy that has a thing for hating Asian people. Encountered him with Ray, he brought a whole pack of Vietnamese fuckers that were apparently out to get him. Wonder if we'll get those fuckers sooner or later."
Midnight Marauders
"The biggest Chinese Triad in the entire city, they're the real deal alright. After looking for some work, one of the Deputy Executives grabbed me and a few other people to prove our worth in order to get into the triad. Sooner or later, we land in the ranks of the triad and began acquainting ourselves with the other members. I respect this group and their overall ideals and goals, though I'm not into the drug aspect of the group. Hope I don't have to do that shit."
