Why RebelRP is dead and will always be.

-0 communication from staff/gms at times. At times there is just no communication from the gm or staff who is aiding you with an action, they accept your ticket or don't even do that and leave you in the silence for minutes on end without saying anything.
Not true, I found about 3 GM's including a mentor to be helpful thus far. Without them, I would've probably deleted hans lmao.
the map is simply horrible in this aspect, the gates are never open to allow people to escape, there is no real way to escape from us the Cps in this map since we can easily just find you, the only way is if someone destroyed that gate and allows you to run back jnto the city and hide along the hotels and etc. But one injection from Cps into the iz and we find you pinned beetwen 1 gate taking too long to be opened by gms and 1 squad of Cps, beetwen the sword and the wall pretty much.
If I had to go through an entire char wipe, with the possibility of whitelist wipes to get off this map. I would take it. D47 or like i17 would be a better map then this, just RP its District-9 that way.

I didn't say they were useless, I never said that, but there has been times where communication could have made things a lot better. I have found this to happen many times sadly, just a "give me a sec" would let me know they are having some trouble with fixing/doing/OOC whatever it is and allow me to know to wait and stay put let others know or ask them to wait too. Take this as a sort of suggestion, let us know when stuff ain't working so we wait patiently as opposed to think that we have been forgotten or abandoned ( wich has happened to me and others before).

What people who resist the Combine call themselves shouldn't matter imo?

If gangsters and mobsters provide more RP to the server than an actual armed Resistance - and historically they have - then leave them be and let them flourish?

Cops still went to deal with them, whats the difference? Who cares so long as there's roleplay being made and people are interacting.

I'm not saying it matters, it's just a bit funny watching people burning down regular citizen housing blocks call themselves rebels and freedom fighters, denying allegations of being actual terrorists. Me, and plenty of my criminal characters I've been honest about and said that they are a gangster, and not a rebel.

This is facts though.

OH I get you, sorry man. Yeah, I agree.

The rebels should strive to gain the favor of the Upper working class (Loyalists) And Workers (Citizens)
I am a bit late on that topic but I think it is somewhat impossible to gain the favour of any of the Loyalists. Almost all of them are just sucking the Unions dick ala "FUCK ALL REBELS" "HOW CAN YOU NOT LOVE THE UNION" mentality, making them incredibly unrealistic as a character and denying any good Roleplay between them and the rebels. I have yet to see a Loyalist who isn't sucking the Unions dick and is just neutral towards the rebels.
Of course, this information is just based from one year ago so I am not sure if anything has changed regarding that.

Find me and give me a reason to support you that isn't you walking by while a guy with a sledge hammer and a sub machine gun rummages through my things in the under pass. Or do something that doesn't get my rations restricted so I starve and can't afford to feed myself.

There's alot rebels can do both Militaristic wise and Propaganda wise, Shed light on the IMS Experimentation, Shed light on the concentration camp outside the city. Shed light on the shady shit the CCA Does.

They've done practically none of this, You go into sewers and it feels like eazy e and the crew are trying to PK you beacuse you have an armband you're forced to wear topside or you'll be beaten and fined for not wearing.

Tbf, rebels are the exact same. Nobody plays a rebel to get swayed over to supporting the Combine either, despite the fact these guys took earth in 7 hours.

If I want to play a loyalist and do whatever I'm not going to be swayed by rebel propaganda either because that's not my goal OOC. You make the character you want to play, at the end of the day.

Indeed, WN V2 rebels already fucked up. Let's do our best in V3 and make rebels great again and not terrorize the whole neighbourhood.

I agree with rebels doing exactly the same, but that means that we all are in this together and have to do better than this. Create your char with a goal oocly, but don't make him entirely one-dimensional. Allow for some interesting RP between the factions.

If the combine are bad (Right now icly they're pretty bad) Then the rebels should capitalize on that, Believe it or not loyalists *Will* Switch sides if the rebels get a better light on themselves and come off more as martyrs/Saviours than the combine

Overall, Rebels have just lost what they need to do. That's Building up the Resistance. They need support, resources and intel, and instead of trying to gain those, they kill civilians, and cops for no benefit to themselves or anyone else.

Honestly agree with this. Shame for someone to bring an interesting loyalist character to the scene just for them to have a really generic opinion of the combine and rebels. “Rebels are bad because they kill people all the time but the combine are good at it though.” I mean if you want a good idea of it just check character 5215ot.pngbios and see how all loyalist characters have the near exact same opinion on all factions.

Counterpoint, Willard's version of the Combine give you no reason to hate them unless you fucked up. You aren't forced to work, get free food and healthcare, receive credits from your rations, and overall, get minimally oppressed beyond curfews, apartment searches, and occasional random re-educations. Hell, the Combine in Willard are so nice as to allow politics and private businesses to exist. The only things you cannot do are ones against the regime, besides that, your "Benefactors" don't really give a damn what you do. The only thing that broadly affects everyone is the suppression field, which only a few people seem to really care about - I've never heard of it being talked in-game as an actual concern of humanity going extinct.

Compare this to the "Rebels", quotes intended because, let's be honest, most of the things attributed to Rebels are ones done by people who have no actual ties to the resistance and just want to wreak havoc. The public perception is that they're pretty much terrorists, which is understandable, considering there's no good in bombing ration centers or apartments. Combine aren't exactly saints, but in the regular person's viewpoint, they kill the people who have done something against them, since, as I said before, Combine in Willard aren't as oppressive/genocidal as the Combine in HL2. The fact that the Combine deal with the terrorists mentioned before only improves the public perception of what is supposed to be an uncaring harvester.

But these are, as mentioned before, actions of non-Rebels. So what do the real Rebels actually do? Coincidentally, nothing that benefits the normal people of the City, hence they don't get to "clean off" their reputation garnered due to all of the actions of criminals, gangs and etc. Essentially, the fact that Rebels mostly deal in the underground greatly hurt their chances of improving their image.

So, imagine yourself as a loyalist, one that can't differentiate between criminals and actual Rebels, or just generally followed the public opinion. What reason would you have for liking them over the Combine? But, lets say you are different. You go to the slums and see how horrible people live. You realize that your alien regime cares little for humanity. A heart-wrenching realization...

...Oh wait, no, that's a knife in your chest. Some guy saw your armband and decided to off you. What a shame, I guess that "profiling one's actions as someone else's" thing was actually a case of foreshadowing. You just got Alex Weaver'd. Serves you right for going into the slums with your fancy clothes...

TL;DR: Don't blame loyalists for not liking Rebels when said Rebels don't do anything to be liked, especially compared to Willard's version of the Combine, which is basically miles less oppressive than their vanilla HL2 counterpart.

Why is it always loyalists - the people too afraid or selfish to risk their lives - that get shit for being bad characters just because they're not convinced to go squat in a sewer all day, eat alien leeches to survive and sometimes shoot cops to death?

If anything there really shouldn't be as many rebels as there are given the insane risks of the lifestyle lol, but I don't see people pointing that out.

This. 100% truth. Some people go reb without understand how crazy it is to just survive in a Combine-controlled world and not get beaten for sneezing infront of the CP. Which is also why I've seen plenty of "resistance" characters who failRP, because they don't burden themselves with the understanding of the insanity of this world like you just pointed out.

And then they cry and make PK appeals when that ankle-biter of a character gets shot, because they finally looted 3 whole inventory spaces worth of "8-Adhesive" (but they conveniently leave that log out of the appeal). For any of my rebel or even anti-social characters who have died, I've never done a PK appeal for one. It's a reality many "resistance" players don't accept, and then you see them get butthurt on the forums.

Personally, I like that in the current map and with the current CP rank leads, the CP can sweep the slums and even to the Outlands, and they do so (my frantic character has witnessed lol, very scary), without stupid plot-armor to keep the rebs from being captured (and amputated).

I feel I should at least comment on this since, as I just found out that one of my characters is (apparently) the *only* actual "Anti-Citizen" character on the server in the BOL system. He's a part of the main rebel group, and I wouldn't say that Rebel RP is dead at all, having been RebelRP'ing it every day (and if WN wasn't off Wednesday and Thursday, I'd be on him today <3). I'm not even on the reb discord, because I know it's just a bunch of bridesmaids, never the brides (nothing personal with that remark I'm also discord retarted).

Rebels are a supporting cast to the "lead roles." It's always been and it always will be. The lead roles are the average citizen players and loyalist citizens. Consequently, we are the first to die in zombie movies so that the main actors can live and finish the plot. And I have nearly died on him more times than I can remember. Many of my other rebel or socio-unstable characters have. But I like that there's no system or rebel-RP protected space to keep him safe where the CP can't go.

For example, yesterday, one of my OOCly favorite characters, @Ron Goodfella himself (I lub u), didn't know just how close he was to getting shot in the back of the neck with a USP-45 while he was in the slums and my character was peaking from behind a wall. But because of how the CP are led now, and because they had active guards at the CZ checkpoint, I had to, OOCly and ICly, actually make a decision. Because if my johnny reb did shoot Goodfella and send him off-world into character heaven, then that very audible gunshot (which can be heard many kilometers away though some players like to think walls magically vanish them), would then cause the slums to turn socio-stability to Orange. And the units would have swept before I could have even /me'd out of there! And even if I managed to ICly run away from the scene, they would have been waiting for my ass in the sewers! And then my rebel would have been new red plaster on the Nexus detention center walls.

You got lucky the CP were close by, Ron. You don't know how close you came to taking the big train on that one way trip to the City in the sky. PS. I luv u Ron have my children!!!! <3 <3 <3

Anytime I log into him, I tell myself: "This is it. Today is the day this motherfucker dies." And when he doesn't, I'm happy I get to live to kill a CP another day.

TL;DR: RebelRP is not dead and always will be. RebelRP is a supporting cast and always will be. And minges/failRP players tend to gravitate more to RebelRP than other RP, so the barrel gets some rotten apples in it.

Just my 2 credits. Er... chips... er.. cents.

If anything I don't really see any loyalists getting shit for being bad characters, it's more rebels than anything. And though many people paint it as a bad thing, including myself, I think the majority of rebels should just admit their not doing a good thing, well from a IC perspective anyway. Like Lost Coast Chanties mentioned there really isn't any reason to disobey the combine, well not in Willard anyway. I think more hatred for rebels comes from a OOC perspective that's really brought IC.

For example if a rebel blows up a ration dispenser, it destroys the main food source for most players and they begin losing skills and their vison become black and white, obviously this is really annoying so most people use it as a source of hatred towards rebel groups, and rightfully so. When rebel groups commit acts of terrorism it just hinders loyalism RP and makes people hate rebels more.

For me personally I hate rebel groups that commit acts of terrorism and mask it as some sort of sense of justice, I've had a character PK'd in the past by one of these very groups and then a few weeks later were in the pursuit of helping the entire slum. I usually don't mind but it is becoming a little stale that nearly every rebel group that pops up has the exact same agenda. Terrorism masked as justice, it's annoying from a IC perspective and honestly is just boring from a OOC one.

Long story short, if you're a rebel character - accept the fact that you're bound to P2L. Overall, anyone who enters RP with the mentality to "win" should either turn to DarkRP or rethink their approach. I personally thrill at the thought of pulling something cool as my rebel character only to get things shaken up (no, not in a ration destruction sense) and then killed off as a consequence if I'm not prepared well enough.

Going back to this thread's original roots, when we pulled off the CWU Warehouse raid with Jun I was more excited for possible interrogationRP than actually escaping. In the end, us two escaped by sheer luck and only a handful of days later I realized how way better we could've pulled this off. Either by getting the escape route ready beforehand or just dispersing into the slums amidst the civil population before the CPs had a chance to fully seek us out.

I also freaking despite characters that hate loyalists just because "they side with the Union". Hating the overall system is very understandable, but seeing each individual inside from the very start as a lethal threat? Next time you're thinking about shanking that white armband, stop yourself for a moment and try to find a reason to do so before you act. If he/she snitches and generally tries to make your life harder, go for it. If they just come over to have a drink at the bar or talk...why the fuck would you want to kill or injure them? Humanity's dwindling enough as it is in the setting.

Lets not pretend this doesn't swing both ways hard.

Many slummers hate all loyalists by default. Loyalists genuinely require a degree of either IC or OOC masochism while attempting to establish a dialogue with most underclass types, be it slummers or rebels. I don't really care about this, as if your character is the kind of person to literally foam at the mouth at the mere sight of an armband, well that's your character. However, all the same you have to appreciate that loyalists have loads to lose just by making an attempt like that.

Unlike rebels taking similar risks, a loyalist has zero options of self-defense of hiding. Anytime you approach the underclass you are essentially just putting your life in the hands of other players OOC. There is roughly a 20% chance they will just kill you on the spot. There is a 50% chance they'll berate you, beat you or rob you. Even if you manage to succeed you draw the attention of the Combine just by doing it, regardless of your intentions.

At the end of the day, its just how characters are played. But, due to that, rebels have to realize that as of now there is essentially zero reason to support them. More than a few rebels are abrasive, gas-mask wearing, gun-slinging, sociopaths that revel any chance they get to abuse those weaker than themselves in the vein notion of some 'greater good'

Reminds you of another group, does it not? :angrycop:
doesn't apply to all, or probably even most of the underclass types, but has historically applied enough that its the most notable stigma they have gained both IC and OOC

there really isn't any reason to disobey the combine, well not in Willard anyway.
I dunno... even in willard, civil protection actively cleanse mentally and physically disabled people from their population by shooting them in the head, the combine are genociding all of humanity in a single generation by stopping reproduction, they're expropriating all of the planet's resources to a foreign invading force, you cannot live with your family and getting discovered means you're forcibly broken apart (if you're lucky).

They're also genetically engineering dangerous fauna to use as biological weapons against the populace; they're actively sanitizing all non-english speaking cultures by criminalizing foreign language; they have stripped labor of all power and stolen the value they produce; they scoop out your organs and eyes and cut off your hands and feet if you resist their will

I could probably go on
