How to fix timing out bug

I'm not certain you're having the same problem I did and I have zero experience with gmod code, but I encountered a similar problem with my game on certain servers (including this one) until I upgraded my PC. I believe it is a hardware issue where our machines were not large enough "buckets" (as per previous examples) and had trouble moving all the data they needed to start up the server. It taking so long, that the service believes us to have failed connecting at some point and timed out. This is because of all the servers custom content which requires more power to load all at the beginning than to run after loading consistently

I coped with this for a while by just giving myself an extra hour and a half or so before I wanted to play to just repeatedly try to connect until it worked and do other things during that time, but eventually I got fed up and had to fix it.

My solution was PRIMARILY to upgrade my CPU, which is what was taking a brunt of gmod's processing power and was quite old. This improved my game massively as well although the server was generally playable with it before, now it runs perfectly. This gave me greater load times and stopped the issue, I think.

Secondarily, I also use the x64 version of gmod (which isn't intimidating at all to use, just choose it at startup each time after changing to it, it hasn't caused issues with normal, less intensive servers for me either). I also went into the gmod files and physically deleted all the old LUA and addons I had collected over a year or so, because those don't actually get deleted even when you hit the delete button in the workshop and still take up space. This was good for clearing storage in general but also may help if your computer is having difficulty sorting through LUA.
If you are running an older CPU however it is unfortunately just a physical problem and will require upgrading.

Have you tried staying tabbed in the game while loading in? Sometimes, I kept timing out when loading in while not tabbed in the game.
