This abuse report is not just a normal report of an admin abuse that occurred on my appeal. It's a recommendation also for reforming the system that allowed this abuse to happen. But first, for a point of reference, here's the ban message (banning admin's name cut off to protect their privacy on the matter). I'm posting the ban message upfront, because I own up to the poor RP on my part. Even though, according to the relevant rules (as outlined in my appeal), it did not constitute FailRP, I still take ownership that my RP could have been a lot better to the standard I normally set for myself and for which many people in the community know and expect when they RP with me. To any of those players who were the ones I interacted with during this incident: I'm sorry.

THE PROBLEM, THE CAUSE AND THE SOLUTION

Problem: Administrators are able to ban, and then someone they know in the same social circle rejects an appeal without being required to address concerns brought on by the appealer. The current system for ban appeals gives the accepting / rejecting authority a lot of discretion, which means a lot of room for error. And then if they make a mistake, there's little recourse to address that mistake.

Cause: I believe the cause is three fold.

1. Admins are in the same social circle. I'm not saying any errors are intended. But bias exists, and you have to acknowledge that they do, and that admins may be inclined to be biased, even in a way they aren't aware.

2. Admins do not *have to* (aren't required) consider the reasons for appeal. Consider my latest ban appeal. The rejecting admin did not respond to any of my claims that were counterpoints to why I should not be banned. Instead they reiterated the perspective of the ban.

3. When an admin rejects an appeal and does so in a naturally biased and one-sided way, there's no way for the rejected person to say: "Hey look, they did this wrong thing. Can we acknowledge that and fix it?" Naturally the admins are biased. That's not a personal statement. That's a truism to all admins of all games unless that game has admins scheduled to do their jobs at certain times of the day and prohibits any social contact on discord or other games, which they don't. It's a fact of games. Most admins handle the bias well and make objective decisions. But because the bias is there regardless, a system should always be in place to look at it and make sure the bias didn't win out. And because appeals don't require the accepting/rejecting admin to consider each argument, appeals are naturally one-sided. That's not a reflection on @Rabithunter who did my appeal, or any admin. It's the system in place.

Solution: I propose a new system for managing appeals. Because they are currently biased, one-sided, and without recourse.

THE NEW BAN APPEAL SYSTEM (PROPOSAL)

Current System: Warn/Ban by Admin X > Appeal Decision by Admin Y > OR If Necessary Additional Input with Data or Decision by Admin Z THEN > Appeal is Accepted or Rejected by Admin Y.

Cons: The current system is biased, one-sided and without recourse, not to mention very linear.

Pros: The current system is very easy, fast, and gets rid of the minges, actual FailRPers with no intent ro RP, and people who obviously don't care without wasting admin effort.

Proposed System (changes underlined): Warn/Ban by Admin X > Reply to Appeal Comments by Admin Y with Recommendation of Appeal Decision to Admin A > Response to the Reply by Appealer > (If Necessary Additional Input with Data or Decision by Admin Z) > Final Decision by Admin A to Accept or Reject Appeal.

Cons: The proposed system takes long and grants greater protection to people who are warned or banned (is being innocent until guilty a bad thing though?). More effort is required by the responding Admin Y, because they have to consider the arguments made (and any evidence), and cannot just reiterate the banner's position. And a third Admin, Admin A, has to not only decide on the appeal, but read both a response to Admin Y's reply and Admin Y's reply in order to make that decision.

Pros: The new system is not biased because a separate admin is making the final decision (Admin A) than the ones that replied (Admin Y or Z). The decision is not one-sided, because Admin Y *has* to reply and consider the response of the appealer. They are required to in order to have a chance for the recommendation to go to Admin A, and because Admin A is judging to see if Admin Y followed the process and considered the appeal. The new system is not linear or without recourse because the appealer can respond, before a final decision on both the respond to the reply of Admin Y and the reply of Admin Y itself. Admin A addresses if any bias occurred, and decides not just the appeal by the merit of arguments and counterarguments, and the conduct of Admin Y.

The new server director acknowledged that banning first and asking questions later is an issue that's been brought up in the community. But there's a bigger problem. When the questions Do get asked, but the person asking them gets gaslighted for not taking the original concerns seriously (that are being questioned in the first place, so why should they be heeded like gospel), and when that person's questions are not even considered but the ban just reiterated in their face? For example, in my appeal, I was told after being denied: "You perception is very narrow and to the letter of how they can be interpreted." (not "your" in case anyone thinks I didn't type it correctly, just quoting exactly.) If an admin can say that in an appeal, then that's it. Not only is the person saying what the rules are, they are declaring that in this game, infront of all other admins, this person is narrowminded and you should not listen to them or believe them or what they say.

ANALYSIS OF THE NEW SYSTEM AND EXAMPLES OF ADMIN ABUSE ON MY APPEAL, AND HOW THE NEW SYSTEM COULD HAVE PREVENTED THE ABUSE

Application: Take my recent ban appeal for example. I made three major claims and a overall conclusion that brought serious concerns.

In the current system, what happens if Admin Y decides without considering the appeal, but only reiterating the concerns: These concerns were not even addressed in the slightest. I was instead accused of being narrow, single-minded and essentially gaslighted for trying to defend myself by addressing the errors of the ban. Imagine that - for making appeals in the past, I'm a bad person and proves why my appeal carries no weight. In the new system, I would be able to reply to the new evidence the admin brings, and to their new points as well as counterpoints of my own. That admin could also be biased, though. Take my appeal for example, again, when the admin seemed to be airing grievance and have a beef with me when rejecting the appeal by citing something I did that they disliked: "I understand that you wished to dispute my decision on the first, but once a decision is made it typically wont alter, unless a lengthy ban such as three months is handed out to a player." By dispute, the admin was referring to an appeal, which is not a dispute, it's an appeal. They seem to take it personally, because they are mis-identifying the action I took as a "dispute" and not the "appeal" and in a way that uses a different word which implies hostility and combativeness on my part to their person or their decisions. Also, why is the admin talking about my previous appeal of their decision for a completely different ban? I understand talking about previous warnings or bans for things of the same nature (which was not the case here). But talking about my appeal to your decision? The only reason a person would do that is because it bothers them, as an appeal is not a crime or something against the rules. Yet he threw it in there in this list of bad things I had done. I bring that up, because it's a great example of how personal bias against someone influences poor decisionmaking. It's also a great example of gaslight / manipulation by challenging a person's credibility and not their appeal. And if that person is the final decider, then there's no recourse, as in the current system.

What happens if the appealer can respond to the reply? In this reply, if I had the chance, I would have been to consider the counterpoints (there were none, because my claims weren't addressed with any counterpoints) and I would have been able to consider the evidence I had not seen. The only counterpoint that was remotely considered, for example in using my appeal, was when the admin had said I failRP'd by not emoting an action well enough, but typing the /me for an action that showed fear (running away). Is this bannable for a month? Seems excessive. If it is, will another admin look at it? No, even if it is excessive. And why? Because that's the current system. Being told you're one-sided or narrowminded before you can even respond to someone's point of view about what you said is an ironic thing to experience. Not only are you banned, but you're insulted and manipulated into shutting up, or else you're just even more narrowminded for pushing the issue and seeking justice. Another example when using my recent appeal: I applied the rules, to the letter. The rules that govern the server and RP, that all players need to learn and apply very well. I was then told that the admin's interpretation is more important the rules. The wording was: "not all aspects of a rule is written down," after I literally quoted the rules and how they applied, and showed how my behavior was consistent with the rules. If a new system allowed another Admin to evaluate this instance of the rules being thrown away, not by a player, but by an admin.... then maybe the rules would be upheld and the appeal would have justice.

What happens if Admin A makes the final decision. Admin A is given a lot of power here. They decide not just the appeal, but the argument and the evidence. For example in my appeal, I was told that the "the evidence here speaks for itself in regards to not giving enough RP to illustrate anything." However, the admin didn't say how, after I had offered a different interpretation of the evidence. Then, after my reply, three things would be accomplished. One, if there was bias, one-sidedness, and a lack of recourse, as what happened in this instance, I would have included it in my reply to Admin Y, as above, and then Admin A would be able to address it then and there and not in an admin abuse report. It gives protection to Admin Y by letting this appeal being the final word on them, and whether they did have bias, one-sided mindset, or administer with a lack of justice. It forces Admin Y to consider, not just reply, but actually consider what someone being banned is saying, and then counter the point, instead of just driving their own point harder into the dirt. But most importantly, it forces the appealer to actually show their true colors and if they care, and are a serious RP'er. If an appealer replies and just gaslights the admin in return, does not consider Admin Y's points, does not seem to think the rules apply to them, and then insults the post by insulting them... what should happen to that player when an admin is disrespected in such a way and the rules trashed? But in the new system, if a player does that to Admin Y, then Admin Y is vindicated, the appealer is proven in their own actions to not have any new evidence or correct interpretation of the rules, nor any remorse for mistakes that are proven and is instead a disrespectful person with no consideration of other's points of view and no regard for the rules, and Admin A can not only grant the appeal, but address that person's behavior throughout the appeal in his decision. And if the admin does it, as is this case, then Admin A can also address that disrespectful and negligent behavior as apart of the appeal, privately, and not embarrass the admin when that player makes an abuse report that are shown publicly.

Here is a little experiment on how Admin A would judge the appealer and Admin Y's arguments and behavior, using my previous appeal as the experiment of the current system versus proposed system.

A. The appealer says something to the effect of "concerns were listed in the ban, but I don't know what they are. They were not listed."

B. Admin Y says: As he rejecting admin said, "There are multiple complaints about you, with other staff members having taken a keen interest in how you behave and RP on the server, bringing concerns about you in general. Looking through the complaints we have, I can see that those are listed in the following order: "Your Viktor character being in the nexus and RP'd as a cafeteria staff member/cleaner, with concerns on how you got there to begin with." (Circular Logic, without clarifying what those concerns were). The admin then said "A minor issue in regards to gaining civil protection codes as a rebel. Logically you wouldn't know all of this in character from the get go, as the codes in civil protection are very well guarded and not well known." (But CP use these codes infront of civilians on the radio all the time).

C. Admin A looks at Admin Y's argument. Would you let any of those arguments fly for enforcing a month long ban? Would you really? One uses circular logic and doesn't actually specific what is concerning, only citing another example of something that brought the "concerns" without saying what those concerns are. What's the real problem here? The other argument is not based in the reality of RP, by citing a reason that is counteracted with the roleplay that occurs on the server. Would you enforce a month long ban for that argument? Now imagine someone gets a month long ban appeal rejected for those arguments. And not only that, imagine that those arguments had nothing to do with the original ban message (reason for ban)? Enter Admin A. Admin is able to pump the breaks and apply justice and say: "hold on, this isn't right."

Admin A can then do four things: Accept the Appeal, Reject the Appeal, Follow the Recommendation of Admin Y in their Response, or Modify the Ban into a shorter time or a warning. They consider not just Admin Y's response and recommendation, but also the appealer's reply to the response. Maybe Admin A gives a longer ban or warning time, or turns the warning into a ban if the appealer proves to be unremorseful, biased and one-sided themselves.

Ah, but what about the decision on a case where the admin, and not the person is one-sided. What if an admin warned a player about something in game, and the player responded saying they still think the admin is wrong, and then insults them. What would happen to that player? Now imagine it's an admin. What about a case where the appealer is gaslighted, insulted, and literally told that the rules don't matter? Then a bigger decision is made by Admin A. And this decision occurs outside the appeal, regardless of how it turns out. Now Admin Y's behavior, their arguments, the way they respond is put under the microscope. It's either commended to they are themselves addressed.

Would you commend an admin for gaslighting, not responding to claims of an appeal, not clarifying concerns but only listing new concerns that had already been addressed with a previous admin, telling you that their interpretation of the rules is more important than the rules being applied (essentially the rules don't apply to them or their decision, but they can reject your appeal because you have a history of appealing bans and they don't like you 'disputed' them?) What about when that admin then insults a player at the very end of that appeal? Do you think that's professional conduct on the forums, even if the person is not an admin? Would you ban someone from the forums if I just flatout banned someone from my RP group and then told them they have a narrow interpretation of things? Do you think that's respectful? And what about that appeal that's handled in such a poor way? Should you just let it stand?

CONCLUSION

I'm asking @Imperator RAD-X and multiple members of the admin team to review this, because this recommendation would change a huge aspect of the server and staff management. I know he's been keen on reforming WN for the better. This recommendation and justice for my appeal are steps in the right direction. An admin abuse occurred on my appeal, and they got away with it because the current system allows one-sided, biased and unaddressed decisions to be made on appeals. What do I want out of this? I want the system reformed so this doesn't happen to other players. I want my appeal changed to either a shorter ban or a warnings, because that's what's proportional to the substandard RP that I allowed. My RP was not as good as it should have been and I accept that. Per the rules, it was not failRP (I showed how the rules apply in the appeal though even the rules were dismissed). It was not failRP, but it wasn't good RP either, and that's my fault. I got too caught up in the moment and let it happen. But a month long ban does not warrant that.

I want to break the abuse down into how it's abusive, as the admin in my appeal did not address how my concerns were concerning (I'd like to show how to do the right thing).

Bias - I'm not talking about the natural bias that exists. This admin went into my appeal history and seemed upset about it, because they lumped it in with my ban and warning history like it's a bad thing, and then called it a "dispute." There's no dispute, just an appeal. That's also a bit of gaslighting by undermining an official action a player can take on the forums, but my claim for manipulation is later.

Ignoring Claims - None of my claims outlined in my appeal were ever responded to. I was never told: "So you said this, I thought this, and this is my reply. You are wrong or you are right." And because they never responded to my claims, that means they never actually considered my appeal, just used it to generate arguments as to why they dislike my points, and not counterpoints. Essentially they didn't do their job. Why appeal at all then, if you're just going to be told that your appeal is a narrow interpretation and you're a troublemaker? I was not told what I failed to /checkcrime, was not told why concerns were concerning, was not told what was failRP, even though I literally applied the rules of the server, verbatim. And if the rules aren't good enough, as the admin replied they weren't but their interpretation was, then what's the point of server rules? The admin failed to actually consider the appeal by ignoring the claims. What's the point of the appeal, if the ban message is just read back into your face and you have no chance to tell your side of the story, because you don't even know what you're accused of? With the current system, because the logs showed that I performed /me's in action / reaction sequence, while the RP was not good by any means, it *was* RP, so fail RP didn't occur. And because of the type of RP and /me performed, my character did not act unphased. The logs show this. But I'm not able to respond to the logs or clarify, or even take ownership of the poor RP that was done. My claims were ignored despite the evidence that supports a ban removal or reduction, and it ended in an insult while being gaslighted through the whole thing.

Insults - "You perception is very narrow." If you don't think that's an insult then there's a bigger problem. Also, spending most of the response talking about my past warnings and appeals... not only does that betray bias and dislike you might have for me... but it also is not relevant to the ban message. It's not the ban message. Why bring it up? It seems like you just want to use this reply to my appeal to call me a troublemaker and not talk about the ban message or my claims. Again, most of the admin's response to my appeal was not about the ban message or my claims. They were about me, and what they disliked about me. That created an insulting tone across the whole post. Imagine if you got banned for something. And I replied: "Here's everything else you did that we already addressed, resolved and concluded." Ok, but what about my side of the story with respect to the logs that I had not yet shared? You wouldn't consider my point of view and my actions before and after relevant, since a GM was not with us in the Outlands to objectively document it? " You perception is very narrow" is the only reply to that question I saw to any of my questions, concerns or claims.

Manipulation - If talking about everything but my appeal, insulting my perception (ability to reason and see evidence), ignoring my claims and only building yours up while trying to attack the credibility of my claims and not the claims themselves isn't enough, let's throw in the fact that I, apparently, don't make appeals. According to this admin, I make "disputes." And I make "disputes" because I'm a trouble-making and unremorseful idiot (narrow perception is also an insult for idiocy), and I "dont seem to be getting the message." He goes onto say "you consistently do something to gain warnings and bans, then head to the appeals section of the forums to detail everything you believe to be wrong with the bans." That is essentially saying that I seem to be unremorseful and problematic. Why are we talking about my psychology and me, and not the ban message, anyway? Talking about the history of someone is one thing, but just trying to manipulate them by trashing them as a person in a way that isn't relevant to the ban message, and then talk about anything but the ban message is another. What's most manipulative about that statement that I always appeal "everything," is that the statement implies my appeals are arbitrary, which implies this appeal is arbitrary and emotional, which implies it is without any warrant, credibility, or reason to believe I or the appeal are right. But what's more manipulative yet is the fact that if anyone of the warnings or bans you brought up were even about the same thing as this ban, then I'd understand talking trends and data points. But they weren't related. You just brought up unrelated warnings and bans. And yet you still brought them up in a way that challenged my credibility as an appealer, but did not challenge my appeal. Yes, you showed the logs as I requested and thank you for doing that. Can we talk about them? No? Just that I'm a combative and troublemaking idiot, apparently. Looking back over them, I now see that my RP was substandard and lacking. I'm usually great at RP as many can testify, but I seemed to have dropped the ball here and damn, because it was shitty lol. I guess I got caught in the moment. Can we talk about that? No? Only my warnings and previous bans while at most calling the logs 'evidence' and just say they support the ban without going into reason why? Only me seeming to be unremorseful and "not getting the message?" Only that you dislike my appeals by calling them "disputes" and by doing so imply I'm even more a troublemaker who is hostile whose appeals shouldn't be taken seriously because I appeal "everything" anyway? The most topical thing discussed were these "concerns" that I asked be shared with me and with the reasons they were wrong and the rules they broke, but what was replied to my appeals were just more concerns without saying why they are concerning, only how. We can't even talk about my side of the story that isn't shown in the ban or even my appeal but I just now realize going through the logs you provided? We can't mostly about the ban message? What can we talk about then? How I'm a bad person? You don't want to talk about the ban message at all except to clarify that /checkrp was mistyped from /checkcrime and not even elaborate what I failed to /checkcrime, ultimately and yet again bringing up another concern but not cite the scenario or why it's concerning? If most of your post and literal character count to my appeal is not about my appeal or my ban message, then maybe your final and concluding sentences are? No? What then? What's the last big point you have to make about my appeal, my ban, my behavior and why I deserve a month long ban? "You perception is very narrow."

I'm not saying the admin who committed the abuse is an abusive person, and I don't even know them in real life. They could be a great guy for all I know, and I'll show them respect. I also have nothing against them or any admin. I'm only saying, as I have before, that everyone makes mistakes, and this admin abuse is a serious mistake that shows not only an error on my appeals that should be corrected, but how the current system that let that happen can be revised into a greater one that ensures better admins, better bans or warnings, and a more professional, respectful server where people aren't insulted and manipulated by those with power.

Thanks for your time reading this. But I know if you care about the server and the community in it, you'll read it. This happened to me, which means that it very well could have happened to others in those appeals hidden from the rest of us, and it'll happen again. I also welcome replies as long as you give me the time and a post to understand what your reply is and to then respond to your reply so that I can carefully consider and understand your counterpoints and points so that, hopefully after further replies from others we create a constructive and positive dialogue so that a final admin can step in and say: "Ok, I've looked at everything, here's my decision on the matter of this abuse report and your appeal." I only ask you be respectful in your reply to my abuse report and not gaslight me as a troublemaking and disruptive idiot who can't reason correctly.

I want to finish with this. I'm not saying the admin in question committed the abuse he did purposefully. Shit happens and everyone makes mistakes. Just take a look at me.

Hi, Vewoth.

Because you've tagged me into this, I will orbit your thread. From my own perspective, you're making this way, way more complicated than it should be.

So I'm going to be very clear and state that I am not going to pay great attention to a full reform suggestion over the reason that your appeal was denied, because that is not what these threads are for. If you want to take that to a forum public discussion, feel free. But not on a complaint thread. I am going to focus specifically on the admin abuse as what this title suggests.

I need concrete, physical evidence that there is actual abuse at play. There isn't any presented which is putting your word against theirs. I've looked in the discord channels I have access to and observed the evidence considered and presented by the staff as per the ongoing discussion about this thread and your appeal and your earlier bannings.

I've spoken to members of staff about this routinely for the previous few hours on and off. There's a lot more behind the scenes that go on than what is currently realised and I believe that you may be rather misplaced in terms of the bias outlook amongst the staff team when it arrives to your earlier denied appeal. There's agreements and disagreements within the circle - it isn't just one person that looks at the complaints, they are all involved. We have multitudes of agreements and disagreements regarding each appeal we look into, and especially complaint threads.

I'm not going to change everything on a whim when there is a system in place that's working as intended. There isn't any bias toward you, I can state that with confidence. We only keep appeals open if it warrants further investigation, but because numerous members of staff searched the logs and brought their analysed data together, that was provided to RabitHunter. Rabit deals with appeals specifically, as many of them as possible - that is his role as one of the disputation managers. The roleplay issue isn't the only problem that is currently faced with your intrigue level from the staff currently, but rather multiple elements leading up to and during the altercations discussed.

I can only have the members of staff involved with this actually reply and give their points of view and look into your own points given on this thread. Tagging me in hopes to force my hand to change a system that is known to be working as clearly intentional as it is desired, is not in my or the server management's best interests at this time.

I will see if anyone does reply to this thread with interest. This remains open.

This is not an admin abuse thread. You are not saying that admins abused you, you are asking for the very system to be changed.

Bro, who cares.
It's about the admins system and how it needs to change, if its that much of a problem. Move the forum to Non-dev/faction suggestions.

Is it not still valid criticism that should be looked at? I feel like the reason people don't like Willard staff is this, most criticism is not defended, staff just berate and insult the ones who give the criticism or use small things like what you said as a way to get rid of it, and if it's that much of a problem, move it to a diffrent section, but don't use this as an excuse to get rid of valid criticism.

To be honest, I feel like that once you get banned once or twice some people de-value your opinion even if it's actually great criticism. Vewoth, Wacky, and Omega are great examples

This dude was banned for a whole month for that? Doesn’t really seem fair at all. I can agree though, when Staff disagree with you they can come off as demeaning or insulting, and when an appeal gets denied they don’t actually respond to your points. If you post a thread in the wrong place, clarifying in your post that you don’t know where else to put it, they use it as a way to just ignore the rest of what you said and just say “This is the wrong place, what you say doesn’t apply here”. Even though they can just move it.

" You perception is very narrow"
And this… is kinda just shitty to say, Admin or not. Staff will keep their dealings secret and basically have a trial for you privately with you uninvolved,

and because of this system with a lack of communication through the pipeline, it’s almost designed that the players can only have a “Narrow perception” of their situation. They literally go through a situation then experience the repercussions of something they may or may not have done, on purpose or on accident, while admins stare at sheets of data that might give a different message than what actually happened, i.e. when Liam And Rabit were helping me with Sachimii after I reported my bleedout made me give up, and according to the actual logs I supposedly did hold e, even though in reality I typed it twice in console.

I’m not insulting staff, and when it comes down to it, M!NT and Rabit have always been willing to hear me out in VC. However, I believe your thread has some genuine merit to it, and I hope it doesn’t just get locked, and I hope the administration is willing to look past you posting this in the wrong place (Cardinal Sin, how dare you not be familiar with how they want to format the forums exactly).

it’s almost designed that the players can only have a “Narrow perception” of their situation.
What I'll note (idk if its mentioned here, I read this last night and I forgot most of it.)
They lack a lot of communication, one instance is a perfect example. Take it how you will, I had took a big break from willard back on v4. I came back as Luigi and forgot to /me destroying a camera, and I didn't even know a 15 minute rule was a thing for rebs.
Now, you'd think this would've been a easy fix, just dm or pm the person to switch back on their char. But no, I was given a month ban without any sort of communication, or a admin saying "Hey, you can't do this."

idk about this player but when imperator states that there's a lot more that goes on than you guys thing, he's not saying that to grandstand, he really means that

unless the system was changed when i was gone, even SA's only have access to 25% of what really goes on in the back end; the other 50% CM's get access to, and the last 25% was for the director themselves and/or special interest groups (like OSI back in the day) and this is in regards to all of willard's functions

when you become CM you get access to a LOT of stuff; not just channels, but extra discords both directly or indirectly related to willard, and when dealing with potential admin abuse threads we made both public and private threads with evidence for and against collected not only through the logs system but discord messages, testimonals after DMing players close to an admin, etc. to judge whether or not an admin was being malicious or not

there are, of course, issues within the system such as favortism or inability to respond but thats a part of every system and no matter how convoluted or simple you make it, human error will always creep in and screw things up. especially so in a roleplay community where people's personality / real life character, accumulated offenses, things that don't get recorded but are noticed both by players and staff, and other miniscule things add up to judge players, and not just their ban records.

Summed it up. We still use and probably will always this system for it's still appropriately effective. It's modified by now, though.

We do definitely have a discord thread dedicated to this forum specifically for Vewoth, as mentioned with everyone getting into these altercations. But opposed to what we had before, it's public access between all staff that are involved with the process. While I know what we have can be found with flaws in regards to community public access, that's not what we wish to do.

Basically in the time you were last around, things were more or less the same for a long time. That changed when I took up the role of Server Lead and started a mass centralisation shift for improving communication and organisation. So it's more liberal than what the previous system entailed. Admittedly, there's always improvements to make since any criticism is what I consider valid. But it needs the correct pretence, at least in firm.

I think what should happen in the future:
  1. Player (the 'Victim') is banned, and makes an appeal describing their perspective as to what happened.
  2. The Admin (the 'Hammer') who banned then gives their understanding of the situation and can request 'witnesses' or other people who were present to give their side of the story.
  3. At which point, all witnesses, the 'victim', and the 'hammer' are no longer permitted to give input to the thread and instead Staff who are of a particular rank should have a voice chat and debate amongst themselves, considering all that was stated and picking apart *both* sides of the appeal. If the 'Victim' appears to have been mistreated, then the ban is appealed or reduced. If the ban stays, then that's basically it.

It should also go without saying that on any appeal thread that the staff team need to act professional and avoid insulting the person who's making the appeal.

I haven't replied to this thread until now, as I wanted to allow others the chance to have their say and leave it to the staff member (s) in question to deal with. For context, I added a screenshot below from the ban appeal itself, where I said the following.

1675761663899.png

My intention wasn't to insult you, far from it. I could have worded it better in hindsight and I apologize for what does look like an insult from myself to you Vewoth. I'll leave the rest of this thread to the relevant staff and allow them to come to a decision, so im not clogging this up with unnecessary comments and so forth.

-EDIT- Just something else I thought of just after posting this. When it comes to ban appeals I take all of a players past inrfactions into consideration, weighing up how long they have been banned for previously, how regularly they had been banned/warned, how long they have been part of the community for, multiples of the same ban/warning. I do try to keep myself unbiased, whilst also looking at it from both sides.

I am of the mindset that players do have the right to appeal, and they also have the right to be in an admin sit if they dont understand a situation as it unfolds. Looking at it from this perspective, it can get to a point whereby a player recieves multiple warnings/bans and the staff team may not bring you to an admin sit to explain how you went wrong and how you may be able to improve. As far as I am aware, staff are not required to sit with players after a rule break on the server and explain how they did wrong, resulting in the current methods for banning/warning people.

Ensuring server stability amongst the player base is also something I look at. This means, I run along the lines of "Will this player continue to do what they have been banned for, if I unban them? Is this going to affect other people's RP and create drama if they continue to disrupt within the server?" I also take a while to respond, normally on a two to three day span. This allows me time to read it, then go away and think about it and check through logs and so forth. When ready, I then write out a reply. Its not always the case of asking others to write their reply, though this can be done if needed. I hope this explains a little more as to my process when dealing with bans/warnings.

Wow.

So, reading all of the replies, I did not expect the discussion I hoped for to actually happen. I expected this thread to be locked and rejected within a day or two. So thank you first, to the admins, for letting this discussion about admin abuse and the system to occur. This is the transparency that some in the thread are talking about, imho.

However, because this has become a discussion larger than just my abuse report and the validity of my appeal, I also want to encourage this transparency that the staff is allowing. Thanks to all those who have bravely contributed to this thread. It's not easy to put your rep on the line and comment a real opinion on a thread like this. So thanks to all who have replied and support, and those who will. If you're on the fence and you read this, please throw in your ideas.

So, in order for me to be as transparent as possible, and to also ensure that I am not misquoting the admin I am alleging committed the abuse that I believe happened (I do not want to put words in their mouth), I am posting the hard evidence, my original appeal and the admin response. I want people to judge for themselves those three topics under discussion. I'm asking for more of the community and more of the staff to weigh in while looking at the raw evidence, itself. Please set aside likes or dislikes when looking at the evidence. Sure, no one likes a ban, but I personally think this admin is a better RP'er than me, and I like all of their characters I've ever interacted with on the server, but that's not what's at stake here.

Before I post the evidence, I'm not going to defend or justify against anything in the appeal or appeal decision. The admin's reply contains previous warnings and bans about me, and I am not shy about this information and I won't hide it, because we have a great community here. I'm also not going to create an unfair advantage or bias by making arguments for against anything while presenting the evidence - I just want it to be seen so you can see for yourself what I reported. I won't defend or explain any of the bans or warnings at this time you will see the admin bring up in the appeal about this ban, even though one of those bans was so inaccurate in its description that I thought they accidentally banned the wrong player, but I won't say which one. I want to remain objective and just present the evidence.

When you read this evidence (you being the community and staff who haven't seen my appeal or the admin's appeal reply in which I allege abuse) there are three main questions you should ask yourself:

1. Did abuse occur? (As M!NT pointed out, if you do not believe abuse occurred, then this thread should be locked and moved to dev / suggestion forum, and we can all go back to dreaming of cheese). Consider the 4 allegations of abuse - 1. Bias, 2. Ignoring Claims, 3. Insults, 4. Manipulation. And in addition to the 4 claims of abuse alleged, consider if the admin acted as an admin should, if the appeal was handled topically, if the admin adequately responded to and considered the appeal and not just reposted the reasons for banning, or if the month long ban is excessive for the reasons and evidence in both the appeal and appeal reply. These are examples of abuse that could occur outside of my claims. You be the judge. The evidence is here.

2. Does that abuse warrant a change in the system? (Asked another way, did the abuse occur, and was this appeal unjustly denied, because of the current system)?

3. Should the appeal be reconsidered because of the alleged abuse and alleged injustice of the previous system?

One thing is for certain. Abuse did occur, and I have outlined, step by step and paragraph by paragraph when, where, and how. Make no mistake, this is an admin abuse report, but I'm not here to just complain and ask for justice. I want to make this more than me by making the community a better place and to make sure this doesn't happen to people again by reforming the appeal system.

By providing the full appeal and response below, I am giving the community access to the evidence that the staff sees. Obviously, if the system itself is under scrutiny, then it isn't right to keep the evidence of my report of alleged abuse concealed. I will remove the names of any admins to protect their privacy. This isn't personal against them, or their psychology, or their perception.

After everyone has had a chance to look at the full evidence I will reply to the server director - thank you for replying RADX, and as in depth as you did. You took the time to read my wall of a report. And I will reply to the admin who I allege this abuse against, as they have replied since, because they took the time to reply to my report, so thanks to them as well.

I will only post the evidence now, because there's a lot for me to consider and unpack in these replies, both how it speaks to the proposed change in system, to my report of admin abuse, and to the validity of the decision to deny my appeal. Please give me a day or two more to make sure I fully understand what's being said and why, by the admin in reply and by everyone, while also understanding those from the community who have bravely contributed (because I need to incorporate community input into my reply just as I'm sure the staff do <3). I want to make sure I understand what @Rabithunter is saying in his reply, fully and objectively before I reply myself.

Thanks to everyone. This is why I love WN. Because when we have differences with eachother in game, it can end like this:

But when we talk about issues affecting the community, it ends like this:

Anyway, back to the evidence. As we say in the military, BREAK BREAK BREAK, message to follow.

Evidence of Admin Abuse below. Admin names mentioned in the appeal and appeal reply are redacted to protect their privacy. Message is a PICTURE, to allow everyone to confirm that no edits were made that could happen in a copy and paste of text. First post is my appeal. Second post is denial of my appeal that upheld the month long ban.

For me personally, I think people should be banned on a case-by-case basis. Because considering their previous offenses and the length of those bans can lead to a snowballing effect.

If Vewoth is banned for a month in addition to a few weeks for other things, then his future bans will be longer, right?

People also need to understand that not all appeals have to eliminate the ban entirely. It could be successful and reduce its duration, so instead of a month he is instead banned for 2 weeks (as an example)

Regarding:
1675823639958.png

"FearRP" is tricky to enforce as for most normal people but if somebody is playing a bad-ass motherfucker who don't take no shit from anyone then what scares them might require more than simply guns being pointed at them, maybe they've been in that situation several times before and came on top and because of this confidence allows them to not be as scared as somebody else might be.

"Complaints" (especially by players) about a scenario typically doesn't mean anything because it could be a group effort to get somebody banned. Having lost my superadmin on another server for having multiple baseless accusations made against me, "Complaints" as a ban reason really rubs me the wrong way. If it was really that big of an issue the parties involved should have made a ban request and posted all their view of the scenario as well as any evidence to support the reasoning for the ban (which would also justify the ban) and also means that there is a history of when they were banned. Granted, admins can check ban logs, etc, but it shouldn't be something you guys have to deal with.

While I understand why the /CheckCrime command exists, in a hypothetical situation where there's the correct number of CPs on and then you /CheckCrime you are then allowed to start doing what you were planning on doing. But, hypothetically in some situations surely MPF would flag down between when you checked and while you were mid-RP from your criminal action, causing it to *seem* like you ignored it.

Regarding:
1675824265464.png

"Admin Abuse" for the wide majority of people means being unfairly treated or can even include being excluded from specific things. For example when people would ordinarily claim "admin abuse" it was simply because they had been grabbed by the physgun to be moved somewhere, but it also extends to unreasonable ban lengths, or being punished for committing small things which the admin responsible has done themself.

"Insults" at any point in a debate is from frustration when dealing with somebody, during the ban appeal process everyone should be as professional as possible, but this is especially true for the admin team. People need to remain level-headed because it prevents the appeal thread from being majorly derailed and consequently missing subsequent points which *could* have been made instead if both parties acted respectfully. For me, if I saw that insults were being cast and it appears that no additional relevant input is being added to the thread, it needs to be locked as soon as possible.

"Bias", much like failing to FearRP can be incredibly difficult to prove but if it is proven there needs to be steps to ensure that it doesn't occur. An admin can *and should* remove themself from a situation if they feel they are going to treat somebody unfairly in general, or even asking for somebody else to supervise to make sure they aren't being unreasonable during the time they're figuring out what happened and dishing out an appropriate punishment. I like to think that most admins in Willard Networks don't need a babysitter and are mature and capable enough of performing their duties without someone looking over their shoulder.

"Ignoring Claims" depending on the amount of them, and how they're presented can be overlooked and accidently ignored as admins are human (or they should try to be lol) and as such as liable to make mistakes when it comes to addressing things. I'm not 100% sure of which or what claims were ignored, ... There we are.

"Manipulation" depending on the *type* of manipulation is very easily disproven as in the wide majority of cases there are server logs which are naturally unbiased and present things as they occurred, completely verbatim. Unless the admin is particularly sneaky about it, but in most cases it can be disproved by some additional sleuthing.

I really didn't want to get involved in this. Clearly you want me to get involved because you're directly mentioning me in this. So congratulations, now I'm involved.

Let's start with this:
1. Did abuse occur? (As M!NT pointed out, if you do not believe abuse occurred, then this thread should be locked and moved to dev / suggestion forum, and we can all go back to dreaming of cheese).
This is deceptive and I do not appreciate it. I never said to lock the thread, I never said to move it. I could do that if I wanted to, because that is how forum moderation works. I didn't do that though, as I know it'd suit the narrative that you are trying to present.

This is what I actually said:
This is not an admin abuse thread. You are not saying that admins abused you, you are asking for the very system to be changed.

I do not appreciate you trying to make me look as if I am trying to silence you, when all I said is that this is the wrong subforum for this discussion and little else.

There is a REASON why people shouldn't MISUSE this subforum.
When you make an admin abuse thread you get a lot of eyeballs. The staff genuinely care about players and want a fair and fun experience for all who call this community home. So, when there is an abuse thread, the entire staff team is forced to read it.

People keep misusing this and it really gets on my nerves, because if we keep letting it happen then this very important subforum becomes just another discussion subforum; it turns into the boy who cried wolf.

At the end of the day there are a number of subforums that are much better suited for this discussion. I don't really care if you want to have a discussion about your favorite pizza toppings, the intricacies of type-1 hypervisors, or even one about how bad this M!NT guy is. You're free to talk about what you want, just do it in the right place please.

Now onto what you're asking for here.
First, I want to mention that you seem to only selectively talk about parts of the ban and appeal process that suits your narrative.

You forgot to mention that when someone does something that is bannable, they are first given a verbal warning not to do it again. Then, when they break the rules again, they are formally warned. Usually once someone has been warned, each offense will usually go straight to another warning. Eventually a lot of warnings pile up and, once someone breaks the rules the next time, they are banned.

If someone is banned for doing something, then comes back and breaks the rules once more, then the next ban is more punishing.

The system is here to prevent people from taking advantage of rule violations. They're told not to do it again, then warned, then banned. If they come back and continue to do these things, they will be banned for longer and longer each time. This is because people who repetitvely break the rules need to be corrected not to do it again.

It is certainly true that sometimes admins get over zealous with bans, or sometimes dish out bans that are too punishing. The appeal system is there to make sure that whomever had been warned prior to getting banned actually did the thing they got banned for. If someone wasn't warned and corrected ahead of time, or there was some sort of mistake and someone didn't do something they were banned for, then the appeal is typically approved. If the player is guilty of doing these things but the ban is overly harsh, then the time is reduced.

In this case you have been warned, then banned before for bending the rules. After returning from said ban you continued to regularly break the rules, which resulted in a much longer ban to be given in order to attempt to correct that behavior.

I do not appreciate you trying to make me look as if I am trying to silence you, when all I said is that this is the wrong subforum for this discussion and little else.
Then move it to the correct one then lol, you mentioned it was in the wrong subforum, so move it to a different forum.
If not, you are just trying to silence him, or it looks like you are.
