Most bandits tend to live in the sewers/slums and will live off whatever things they are able to secure. However, in some cases there are times where Bandits need to do something rash or drastic to ensure that they can survive another day. Eventually this individual will need to hold somebody against their will and take their belongings.

The main point of this thread is to allow people to think of the consequences, in addition to reducing the amount of player deaths (NLR or otherwise) simply over a few useless and easily obtainable scripts, think about the following the next time you have an encounter with your next victim:

1. Are you easily identifiable?
If you're easily identifiable it falls on you to make sure that you, and you alone are not able to be picked out so easily. As such, you shouldn't do anything that incriminates you so easily, at least without proper masking.

2. Do you have a Tools or Weapons to further coerce them if needed
In the event that they are not going to comply, are you able to ensure that they will? By restricting their movement or keeping a weapon trained on them

3. Does this person have skills or access which you don't have.
People who have access to skills, areas or connections you don't have are more valuable alive than dead. If they do, what are some steps you can take to persuade, blackmail or coerce them into helping you?

A long-term benefit is far superior than a few common items in the moment. Consider the benefits of maintaining a neutral or beneficial relationship with this individual.

4. Are they an active member of a community/organisation
If they disappear who will come looking for them? What actions or steps will be taken to ensure that they are found?

5. Are they a Loyalist?
Simply because somebody has an armband, or is within the CWU does not make them a Loyalist. In most cases people are wanting to improve their own life without making waves, you might also find that some people who have armbands can share similar opinions to your character, being a distaste for the status quo.

This is a sore point for me as of now, two of my characters from this year have died simply because they were assumed to be a Loyalist because the people responsible didn't have any idea about my characters affiliations, or history.

6. Are they compliant?
Are they allowing you to do things without having the need to use force? A compliant person is far easier to deal with quietly than one of who kicking and screaming the whole time.

Remember that players will try and do whatever it takes to survive and in most cases don't want to waste the weeks or months it took to develop them. For people who may not accept a death NLR you should understand that negative interactions resulting in death will always damage the server and its population.

For some reason some rebels have the idea that killing loyalists in the slums is a just and reasonable reason for a PK. At the same time I find that these are the same people who complain about civil protection in the city and their brutality.

loyalists walking into slums with an armband on are the same kinda person to start up a rebel character and wear full armor and gun in slums in sight of every denizen while wearing no mask

both deserve to die

Is that not a valid reason? I'm pretty sure it is

If a rebel walked into the city with a vest on nobody would question the sense of cops killing them for it.

Likewise, loyalists walking into the slums should be at risk.

The only problem is that a Rebel in a vest wouldn't even get killed unless they had a gun and actually shot someone with it. Detained, questioned and beaten for wearing illegal armour, yes, but not killed.

A loyalist has no weapons, nor anything to actually do harm with. And, as a... recent event showed... Well, I'll let it speak for itself.

I mean Ron Goodfella was probably the only loyalist who actually could defend himself because he always carried a melee weapon with him but then again there was nothing he could do anyways

rebel uniforms (aka vests) aren't red tier contraband anymore?

Except reporting, which is the main reason loyalists are allowed to be killed on-sight.

You would be surprised how lenient CP have become with the PK rules on characters now. It's just weird how all rebels jump to PKing loyalists other than perhaps robbing them and beating them up. I mean that's what CP do anyway, we don't jump straight to PK.

depends. if they are lower than t4 then its not worth trying to beat them up since they either got it via mass reporting or workshifts hence their RP quality is questionable (aka its questionable if they'd learn anything from a good beating or if they'd just minge run to the nearest CP and tattle), but T4 and above loyalists aren't stupid enough to enter slums or they are rebels within the loyalist system and hence going to slums in general would be stupid unless they take severe percautions such as changing physdesc, wearing mask and armor, etc. so you'd have no reason to kill them anyway cause only those they trust would even know they are a loyalist

Do you understand how hard it is get the armbands? It's so time consuming. You can only earn 10 SC every day, the first armband needs 125, I think the second needs 150-160.

It shouldn't fall on the person you rob, it should fall on the bandit to be responsible with their targets.

The person shouldn't be in the slums its a risk, if they are willing to take that the could get robbed or killed. Like Ronny

I mean old mate Ronny spent plenty of time in the slums.
If Ron Goodfella is going to be killed by bandits, then it goes to show just how little thought the Bandits put into their "RP" because Goodfella definitely would have had plenty of social connections which could have been exploited.

A majority of banditry (read: Killing another character) in the parameters of banditry isn't necessarily constrained by any IC motive but moreso OOC. In the past, a lot of character deaths and PKs have been thinly-veiled attempts in wanting to Permanently Kill somebody's character for allegiance, without any history between the characters or actions sustained to provoke such an action, and secondarily wanting their scripts that they carry due to their mechanical value and 'rarity'. Both which could be understandable, but it would've been better to mug, etc.

In short, unless you have a very good reason IC then it's ALWAYS better to mug/beat instead of killing. If not for the sake of morality then for the sake of other player's enjoyment. Ask for a GM to oversee it in case any minge running/request device calling happens. As far as I'm aware timescale applies to slums so even if those 10 CPs with /me shoots the individual runs out from behind the corner, if you S2RP then you should be good. Worst case scenario, you'll take the loyalist in question as a hostage until you dip into the sewers.

They are, but red tier violations are no longer a cause for amputation unless it's something really serious, since the CP faction has made a good few changes to generally avoid PK'ing people.

they are bandits. they kill, difference between bandits and criminals and rebels. Killing a loyalist that high is a win for them

Ron was also a high-tier loyalist who routinely risked his ass tbf. In fact it was only literally two weeks ago that someone said "I could have shot him dead as a high-tier collaborator but I didn't" on the forums.

Killing loyalists who wander into a hive of criminal activity with their allegiance on display should be kill worthy. Its common sense. Yes, I know there's the argument to be made about RP and being fair, but there's also a point where loyalists need to take responsibility for walking into the slums with an armband and fancy suit on and expecting nobody to take issue.

You could be a reporter. Why should I just let you wander around eavesdropping?
