Most bandits tend to live in the sewers/slums and will live off whatever things they are able to secure. However, in some cases there are times where Bandits need to do something rash or drastic to ensure that they can survive another day. Eventually this individual will need to hold somebody against their will and take their belongings.
The main point of this thread is to allow people to think of the consequences, in addition to reducing the amount of player deaths (NLR or otherwise) simply over a few useless and easily obtainable scripts, think about the following the next time you have an encounter with your next victim:
1. Are you easily identifiable?
If you're easily identifiable it falls on you to make sure that you, and you alone are not able to be picked out so easily. As such, you shouldn't do anything that incriminates you so easily, at least without proper masking.
2. Do you have a Tools or Weapons to further coerce them if needed
In the event that they are not going to comply, are you able to ensure that they will? By restricting their movement or keeping a weapon trained on them
3. Does this person have skills or access which you don't have.
People who have access to skills, areas or connections you don't have are more valuable alive than dead. If they do, what are some steps you can take to persuade, blackmail or coerce them into helping you?
A long-term benefit is far superior than a few common items in the moment. Consider the benefits of maintaining a neutral or beneficial relationship with this individual.
4. Are they an active member of a community/organisation
If they disappear who will come looking for them? What actions or steps will be taken to ensure that they are found?
5. Are they a Loyalist?
Simply because somebody has an armband, or is within the CWU does not make them a Loyalist. In most cases people are wanting to improve their own life without making waves, you might also find that some people who have armbands can share similar opinions to your character, being a distaste for the status quo.
This is a sore point for me as of now, two of my characters from this year have died simply because they were assumed to be a Loyalist because the people responsible didn't have any idea about my characters affiliations, or history.
6. Are they compliant?
Are they allowing you to do things without having the need to use force? A compliant person is far easier to deal with quietly than one of who kicking and screaming the whole time.
Remember that players will try and do whatever it takes to survive and in most cases don't want to waste the weeks or months it took to develop them. For people who may not accept a death NLR you should understand that negative interactions resulting in death will always damage the server and its population.
