Overview

Upon the arrival of the Universal Union, the Russian military, despite the hardships of the First and Second Chechen wars, tried its hardest to repel the extraterrestrial crusaders. Some generals and admirals refused to lay down their arms when the Russian government 'signed' the ceasefire agreement with the Combine and resorted to guerilla warfare in the depths of Russia. Some warlord-generals have decided to fortify their positions in several military bases scattered throughout the country.

When the Kremlin announced Russia's surrender, several members of the General Staff of Russian Armed Forces managed to quickly reclaim a what was rumoured to be an 'abandoned' ICBM base and a rocket launch site, located just 200 kilometers from the Chinese border in the Far East of Russia. Ironically enough, the town name 'Svobodny' translates to 'The Free One'.

Important figures

Army General Anatoly Kvashnin, previously Chief of the Russian General Staff.

After Russia's surrender, he is now the de-facto leader of Russian Armed Forces. Owing to his leadership experience during the First Chechen War, he managed to successfully adapt the late-Russian military doctrine to the current circumstances, effectively turning his loyal Russian soldiers into profficient guerilla warfare fighters.

Army General Yuri Yakubov, previously Commander of the Far Eastern Military District of Russia

When the surrender of Russia was officially announced, Yakubov was reluctant to submit himself to the Combine rule. He declared himself a rogue General to the Russian general staff and the commander in chief. To his surprise, he received an order from General Kvashnin to rally all remaining loyal forces in ICBM Base Svobodny. Yakubov knew where this was going and decided to comply. Within the first week of the ceasefire, he managed to relocate two motorised brigades and half an air defence brigade to the rendezvous point.

Current Time
The remnant forces have managed to retain their positions in the surrounding areas of their stronghold. The soldiers have managed to create hydroponic farms within the base, and they operate surveillance outposts along the Zeya River that also serve as fishing camps. They currently operate the pre-Seven Hour War vehicles, such as BTR-90's, T-80's, T-90's and a handful of Mi-24 and Mi-28 helicopters as well as several Su-50 jets, although those practically never get used so as not to draw too much attention. The remnants managed to integrate several townships from the surrounding areas into their jurisdiction to protect the locals from Antlion attacks.

CANON WILLARD LORE

AK47s AND VODKA FOR EVERYONE

What about my boy Yazov and his bro Vladimir Lobov
I think both the fellas finished their military service in the 90s, so it wouldn't make much sense for them to be part of this

Would you mind if I wrote a similar lore doc regarding remnants of the US military? I didn't know if you had plans for it already, so I just wanted to ask beforehand. In addition, I believe the Swiss military should also be considered in this regard.

I did some lore on remnants of the 173rd Airborne Brigade that was stationed in Italy if you wanted to see that @Monks

Yo sorry for the late reply.
I’ll be writing mainly about the Russian military fellows since I’m more familiar with the Russian side. I’m also planning adding a brief addition about a remnant navy squadron (3-4 submarines) in the near future
