As someone who played both a vort racist, and a vortigaunt. I think vortigaunt racism should happen more, instead of people being all 'friendly friendly', not saying people shouldn't be friendly friendly with them. But propaganda encourages vortigaunt discrimination
Repost cause I fucked something up [casual Donavin L]

No

Not sure why they'll be racist towards Vortigaunts who are in the same boat with them. Both under heavy oppression and exploited.

They did kill a large portion of humanity.
At Black Mesa where all the aliens first started spawning in? Yes, the Vortigaunts did kill plenty of scientist. But after the Nihilanth was killed, freeing the Vortigaunts from its control, they were set free and I assume they began to be passive considering their overall kind nature. I'm sure there was probably conflict with the military. But to say that they killed a 'large portion' of humanity is not correct. It's pretty clear that non-intelligent Xenian (headcrabs, houndeyes, bullsquids, etc.) creatures and the Combine are the main culprit behind humanity's near-extinction event.

And even if they did kill a portion of humanity, pretty sure humanity overall has overlooked it as they too are being enslaved like them. Both finding an understanding and mutual goal which is to free themselves from the Combine.

Did they kill humans? Yes.
Did they kill a large portion of mankind? Absolutely not.

Vortigaunts, even if they wanted to post Black Mesa, were not in any condition to go to war with humanity or constantly seek conflict with them. There absolutely was conflict, especially depending on the area, but its not like there was some concentrated genocide for either side.

Regardless, that was nearly twenty years ago, and Vortigaunts compared to things like Antlions, xenian infestations, Race-X and especially the Combine, are honestly pretty irrelevant in terms of 'things that have screwed us over these last few years.'

Outright racism towards Vortigaunts is a bit...overcooked 7 times out of 10. Distrust or a general social hesitation typically makes more sense. Hating a Vortigaunt 'Because its an alien' is really strange when you are currently being ruled by even more 'alien' aliens. Rather than that, it makes more sense to blame Vortigaunts for their small role in bringing fate to where it is now (IE basically having fucked everything they've tried to do up), and just generally distrusting their future ambitions.

Generally though, for most people, Vortigaunts are not enough of a threat nor enough of a historical foe to hate them just because 'alien' Personal loss or history is a more likely driving force.

Also why create a discussion about it? Be weird to see a sudden shift in citizen-vortigaunt interactions because of a OOC post. If you wanna be racist towards them then uh go ahead? Don't see why you would but you might get beaten up for it (happened before).

I dunno, from my time playing vortigaunt I always thought it was 'to easy' in a way, I was able to become a docile status in about 2 days. + this is for v3, not v2.

Good point to be a honest, I always assumed vortigaunts did cause a good portion of havoc due to them being summoned all around the world with Alien Grunts.

Distrust does make a lot more sense then general racism towards vortikind, I just sometimes believe they have it real easy, especially considering they are meant to be slaves.

Nah, logic has little to do with it. A concentrated disinformation campaign on the CCA's part over the years and the elites touting why Biotics are the origin of all our problems is exactly why City 24 has a culture of prejudice against Vortigaunts. Which is not easy to lose, even when it no longer becomes an active manipulation. It is easy to escape the paradox of 'they are aliens' by rationalizing it as 'They are aliens who, by resisting the Combine in the first place, caused all of our problems'.

One need only look to the ludicrous nature of real world politics to realize people will rationalize anything to fit their expectations. They will gladly be enslaved to a world view if it offers them a comfortable outlet. Which in this case is projecting the cause of all your problems onto a large eyed lizard. Propaganda is powerful, especially when all lines of communication, save for clandestine meetings that could have you killed, only support its claims.

So yeah. Be a good citizen - Report the Vort.

because people forget that vorts like actually raped earth and killed alot of people

Considering it wasn’t too long into the invasion that Vortigaunts were released from the control of the big floating baby, they most likely did the least of the killing. They probably even helped with the fending off of all the non-sentient wildlife ravaging the planet, albeit most likely not side-by-side with humanity for a long time.

So, it’s likely the citizens that would actually hate Vortigaunts are either projecting their hate for the combine through Vortigaunts, since they can’t exactly criticize the combine openly… or they really just drank that Breen water and are comically loyal to le scombine. Or a vort are their baby or something
