There is no reason, lore-wise, to have Imperial in Willard Networks. There was no OTA screaming random symbols when they saw Gordon Freeman, so why should there be symbol language all of a sudden on Willard? I get that the concept of it sounds cool and all, but gameplay- and lore-wise, it makes no sense to have it at all. Sure, in the game, there are some spotted, but there is nothing we can make of it, and the combine is never spotted passively speaking said language.

Let's remove all the languages while we're at it
Not really a reasonable argument to use tbh. I do agree that the concept of the Imperial language existing is a little silly and doesn't fit so well in the Half-Life 2 universe. We've seen in Hl2 and Alyx where Breen and a unidentified woman spoke to the Advisors in English. And due to the Advisors using telepathy to speak to them, you can safely assume they are speaking to them in English as well.

I misread the whole post I'm skitzo ☠️

Imo Willard lore is already wacky as is.

I wouldn't see the benefit of removing imperial in any sense just to conform with the games lore

From a gameplay perspective I don't see how it's causing any issue to anyone's roleplay. It's literally used to say something in more plain speak for ota or if someone wants to relay something without the entire room knowing

can't remember who, but it was either a minister of civil protection or city administration cabinet member (minister) that spoke imperial in front of the people.

that was zany as fuck and I do think Imperial should be removed. It's not really necessary besides acting as an uncrackable enigma code and it wouldn't be to anyone's detriment if it were removed.

Doesn’t hurt to remove it or keep it. It’s barely used anyways, aside from synthetics like the cremator. OTA don’t care if someone overheard them, not like they’re going to know what they’re saying by the sheer amount of code words used. For the humans, not entirely needed either. Not used at all unless you’re speaking to OTA, but even then, English gets the point across the same way through /w.

Oh yeah, definitely; this should be made something restricted to synths. Overwatch should be able to understand imperial but not be able to speak it, while it should be unintelligible to just about everyone else, even sectorial joes.

I think it's fine. But, remove every language flag from OTA except English and it.

It's goofy seeing human characters speak in some strange alien tongue. not just goofy its quite retarded.

Every time Imperial is spoken, I just imagine what I thought the OTA in hl2 used to say in some quotes when I was a kid before I realized they were speaking English all the way through. And yes, that's also incredibly goofy alien noises.

To reach a compromise as internally we do not wish to remove the language. Originally this language was only meant to be used by Synths, Advisors and other such special chars who had the vocal modifications to speak the language. Even OTA who have the flag by default are only meant to understand the language, but not speak it.

So in order for this to be met some language rules will be sprinkled into the upcoming ruleset that special languages like Xendarian, Imperial and the Race-X language whatever we called it may only be spoken by select few species of a set type. With conditions laid out for who can specifically understand or speak the languages.

Generally, the language should be limited down as Humans should not have the vocal capacity to speak the language. They could with long periods of training understand, but not ever speak it. Though the pool of who can understand it will be cut down significantly.

So this will be thrown into Denial with Partial Acceptance of changing the way it works.
