title says it all :) I used to admin here in 2022 and since then I have somehow landed at Facepunch working as the QA tester for Rust - I don't have any official involvement with Garry's Mod but I've been working there for about 5 months now and it's going smooth. I have some ideas for a round based HL2RP gamemode in s&box which I'd like to pitch here at some point in the future, was thinking something more SS13 based? dunno. ask away!

What do you think about the morality of Facepunch being given exclusive access to Source 2 (as far as is commonly known). I personally find this erks me the wrong way. The reason for such is that it takes away many elements that made Source 1 so good.

After all, Garrys mod was only created because of the open nature of Source 1. Seeing other modifications lacking (JBmod) made Garry want to make his own, and because of the open nature he was able to do so.

Now I understand S&box is probably the most logical way to do it. Lessons were learned from Gmod and creating a more enclosed environment where people are invited (so far) certainly will ensure a higher quality of creations. There is certainly no sadness on my end if I never see another low quality dupe in my life and working towards that in a certain capacity is a enticing offer

However I feel that this makes the future of source and source mods a lot less exploratory, loosing much of the magic that made Source 1 so good. By creating a sanitized environment you get just that, sanitized. So much so that while the tools being created for S&box may be some of the best for access and learning, I feel like we may be missing out on other great creations that have been denied a chance to event be conceptualized.

Anyways, those are my two pence on the matter.

Also what kind of broken person likes Rust.

In addition I would like a more roguelike HL2RP as well, perhaps more akin to zomboid rather then SS13

What's 2 x 5?

Is Rust going to add rocks to the game?

i think you are answering your own question - s&box has restricted access so that the earliest pool of content available on launch and the tools that will become publicly available will have at the very least some time to cook, and you don't need access to s&box to conceptualise a gamemode for it, you just won't be able to do any actual development (unless you just use CS2 since it is also source 2 and is already in the hands of probably a lot more people than s&box)

I want to play Rust singleplayer, it would probably be pretty a pretty relaxing game without having to worry about raids

People can do whatever they want thankfully, but it honestly gets on my nerves when someone posts something semi-serious, who holds potentially important information to gamers who have been invested in a community for over a decade, and you get these childish memers clogging the forums to post non-funny content on the thread. Not to mention they're offering a rare chance to give community input into a long-sought after game. It just pisses me off.

In any case, as what FungletheBungle said, a Project Zomboid-esque game would be awesome, but I think something like XCOM would be extremely fun if we're talking turn-based. In general, I wish for something where Vortigaunts can shine. It's such an untapped area gameplay wise.
