Precedents of Accepted PK Appeals
The purpose of this thread is to create a public review of accepted PK Appeals for comment by the community, with the intention to create a taxonomic tool for the forums in finding relevant precedents based on staff's final verdicts as basis towards future PK Appeals. Throughout the thread, we assume that the verdict of the staff is valid - however, it is important to bear in mind that rules can change, and if it nullifies an earlier precedent, it should be noted on this thread. Sources are cited as URL within the title of each CASE #X.
PK Policy
The list can be expanded and is intended for public use.
CASE #1: Person A (citizen) was being mugged by Person B (rebel). Person A responded by trying to kick Person B in the groin. Person B shot and killed Person A, took their stuff and threw their body away.
Result: Kicking in the groin of a mugger is considered an act of self-defence, not an assault - therefore is PK appealable to the condition of unrefundable NLR if it lead to death.
PK Appealable / Unappealable?: Appealable
CASE #2: Two rebels (A and B) were at the docks. Rebel A saw a point of interest and began walking towards it. Rebel B makes a copypasted /me of shooting Rebel A. Rebel A was shot under S2K condition until they were dead.
Result: Rebel B did not commit a roleplay action of equipping their weapons to kill Rebel A, which would have otherwise let Rebel A react. Furthermore, also because S2K was done on a person who was still in a typing condition. Therefore, the appeal was appealable with unrefundable NLR condition.
PK Appealable / Unappealable?: Appealable
CASE #3: Person A went AFK during a debate, thinking of returning back in around 5 minutes, however, was prolonged into 5 hours. Returned with a PK'd character due to AFK system not kicking in and preventing them from starvation / dehydration.
Result: Logs proved that AFK system had not kicked into place, probably due to camera angle being moved in the duration of their AFK status, while they had been in the same spot throughout the duration of their AFK. There was no significant events where Person A had been AFK, hence their PK was appealed with the condition of being void.
PK Appealable / Unappealable?: Appealable
CASE #4: Antlion character logs into within vicinity of a sewer sweep. They are knocked out by civil protection team, dragged to the prison and executed.
Result: As the antlion logged into a situation where it was impossible to escape said sewer sweep. They were granted leniency of NLR no refund.
PK Appealable / Unappealable?: Appealable
CASE #5: Freed vortigaunt character (A) attempted to disrupt a raid after acknowledging intel of a breach & sweep being conducted by Overwatch. An issue occurred where a staff member mentioned that it was to be nullified as the raid was not supposed to happen. The disruption attempt ended with A being shot by a civil protection member after calling them a swine.
Result: Server Council put the PK on a vote, which lead to a majority vote on void, hence the event was cancelled, characters revived and items refunded. The reason for the decision was due to a serious breach of OW deployment protocols that caused a three-hour long firefight.
The incident has shown that breach of OW deployment protocols may validate PKs into void.

About OTA protocols:
The OTA protocols aren't public, though it was agreed upon that anything beyond the second wave can be met with a PK appeal if it was related to a very long firefight just yesterday or two days ago. Or something along those lines, date wise.
