> Near the edge of the border of Ukraine, separating it from Belarus, lies Chernobyl, a radioactive ghost town, once a territory of the Soviet Union, that has been untouched for decades. What lies within is a wasteland of deserted structures and a hotspot for radiation. The history of this place is a well-known one, as it is one of the most infamous manmade disasters of all time. On the 26th of April, 1986, at 1:23 AM, a test of the Chernobyl nuclear reactor No. 4's electrical supply went wrong, causing a steam explosion, which blew through the upper biological shield and began rupturing further fuel channels and coolant lines. A few seconds after the first, another explosion occurred, terminating the nuclear chain reaction within the core, and compromising more of the reactor containment vessel.

> The citizens of Chernobyl were forced to evacuate, leaving behind their homes due to the disaster. Eventually, it became a ghost town, filled to the brim with radiation, and closed off to the public. Fast forward decades later, and the Universal Union invade Earth, taking it over in 7 hours. It took a few months for this location to be discovered after their conquering of Earth. In the months following the taking-over of Earth, a small Resistance community built up within the site; a group of Slavic individuals cloaked in radiation-resistant suits made themselves at home for a while, before the Combine discovered the area, showering it in headcrab canisters and either scaring away the remaining refugees or converting them into headcrab zombies. The zone is now condemned and has Overwatch soldiers constantly scouting its perimeter, not hesitating to annihilate anything in their view.

> After a while, a high spike in antlion presence was sensed, an obvious sign of antlions nesting in the area, where the nests are located is unknown, although they are definitely within the region, most likely the west, due to the multiple sightings of antlions in that direction, and small checkpoints have been established in the region, with defensive technology surrounding them; such as turrets, hopper mines, and thumpers, to limit antlion presence, although they do find a way to bypass every now and again. There have been plans to locate and destroy the nests, to halt further necrotic contamination in the area. There is nothing planned for Chernobyl itself, however, and it may remain a ghost town for years to come.

Well, Chernobyl always seems to have a place near enough anywhere, even in Half Life I'd suppose. Nice content.

Looks nice, I'll give a wee wait for what other peeps think.

personally i don't see a point in wasting unions resources on chernobyl - an empty area without any purpose. the territory would've been better off left untouched, or later on used for events

It was sorta explained that there was a presence of anti-citizens in the area and the main point was that they needed to restrict the area off so that a community couldn’t be built there. Part of it was inspired by a combine-themed Chernobyl map too, just wanted to see if a story could work with the place.

restricting the area with tall combine walls would've been enough to seal the anti-citziens off imo

This looks like a very nice addition to add to the map. This would fit in with what we got so far and as Rad said, it pretty much fits right into half-life and pretty much anything else so why not?

Taking into account what Mateozz is saying, yes I would semi-agree with his observations since it is Chernobyl. However, I mostly see the zone being colonised by sentient alien wildlife more than humans which is formally addressed on the topic above.

I think there was an issue that still holds true today, which is the problem of there being a water source underneath the reactor, which by the time could probably have already met with the elephant's foot, so to say. This'd force another, high profile explosion which could've lead the area to be even more contaminated than before. I think it'd bea good addition as to make it actually dangerous outside of the antlions being present by the use of more radioactivity in it's sorroundings.
