In-Character Willard Networks: The Travesty of District One. Mismanagement. Trash. And Real Human Writing

Status
Not open for further replies.
I’ve read the replies, and somehow people are still dancing around the actual issue here.

FungleTheBungle needs to finish the map.

That’s it. That’s the problem.

People keep saying “maps take time,” “he’s probably busy,” “development is complicated,” and all the usual excuses people trot out when they don’t want to admit something obvious.

I’m sorry, but no.

If the map is unfinished, the solution is to finish it.

I genuinely do not understand why this is apparently controversial.

And before somebody tells me I “don’t understand mapping,” I don’t need to. I don’t know how refrigerators work either, but I know they’re supposed to make things cold.

Same principle.

Every day that D1 continues is another day FungleTheBungle could be finishing District 7 instead. That is simply time management.

People act like he has to carefully test things, fix problems, and make sure the map actually works.

Why?

Release it first. Fix it afterward.

That is literally why patches exist.

Somebody replied that rushing the map would probably make District 7 worse.

Okay?

Then FungleTheBungle should simply rush it without making it worse.

Again, I don’t know why I have to solve every problem myself here.

And please stop telling me to be patient. I have already waited, and the map is still unfinished.

That means patience has objectively failed.

At this point, anyone defending this is just making excuses because apparently saying “finish the map” is too demanding now.

It isn’t.

FungleTheBungle, finish District 7.

End D1.

Launch the map.

This really is not complicated.

And if you disagree, I genuinely recommend rereading this until you understand it.
I will also point out that @Fregiscard have shown that spending too long on a map actually kills the server

therefor we should be doing everything to reduce time spend mapping

I have already spoken to ChatGPT and send it training using Hammer, sadly it died right after so I will need to punish other LLMs

Fungle, I want to start by saying that I do genuinely respect the amount of work you have put into this. Mapping is not something I pretend to fully understand, and I know that building a map people are actually going to spend hours playing on involves far more than just placing buildings down and calling it finished. You have to think about layout, flow, optimization, atmosphere, gameplay, testing, and probably a dozen other things I never even see from the player side. 🌿

You are also a good friend, and I do not want any of my criticism to come across as me dismissing the effort you are putting in. I know you care about the server, I know you want District 7 to be good, and I would much rather have something made with care than something thrown together purely because people were impatient. That absolutely deserves respect. 🐢

At the same time, I think it is fair to say that I wish it was getting done faster. Not because I think you are lazy, not because I think mapping is easy, and not because I think I could do it better. I just think a lot of people are excited for District 7, and the longer D1 continues, the more that excitement turns into impatience. Those two things can be true at the same time: the work can be difficult, and people can still wish the timeline was shorter. 🚲

I also understand your point about testing and compiling. A map that looks finished is not necessarily a map that is actually ready to use. If rushing it means broken areas, terrible performance, missing content, or problems that make the whole experience worse, then obviously I do not want that either. There is no point getting District 7 a week earlier if everyone spends that week falling through floors and complaining about optimization. 🦆

I think where my frustration comes from is simply wanting to see more visible progress and wanting the transition to happen sooner rather than later. Even occasional updates, screenshots, small progress posts, or a clearer idea of what still needs to be done would probably make the wait feel much easier. People are usually a lot more patient when they can actually see the road ahead of them. 🍎

And despite all the arguing, I do think your point that “mapping takes time” is fundamentally correct. I may joke about it, and I may wish you would somehow discover the ability to map at supernatural speed, but I am not going to pretend that good work happens instantly. If District 7 ends up being significantly better because you took the extra time to finish it properly, then that time will have meant something. 🧱

So I am not saying “rush it and make it terrible.” I am saying please keep working on it, please keep us informed, and please finish it as soon as you reasonably can. I am excited to see what you have made, and I think that excitement is really where most of my impatience comes from in the first place. 🌮

You are a good friend, Fungle, and I respect the work.

I just also really, really want the map. 🐙
Post #17 — Fungle

How DARE you.

I sat down ready. I had the Irn-Bru. I had the tabs open. I had four separate rebuttals loaded and a joke about a refrigerator that I was genuinely proud of. And you come in here with "you are a good friend, Fungle, and I respect the work."

Respect the WORK? You've ruined my entire evening.

Do you have any idea what you've just done to me? I had a rhythm going. I was in a thread where four people were arguing in circles about whether a man understood a fridge, and I was thriving. I was in my element. And now I've got to sit here like a lemon, holding a fully-loaded paragraph about tidal waves and sledgehammers, with nowhere to put it, because you decided to be measured.

"Mapping is not something I pretend to fully understand." Oh, isn't it. Isn't that convenient. You've read one post about optimisation and now you're humble about it. Absolutely disgraceful conduct. Omega didn't understand mapping either and he had the decency to be WRONG ABOUT IT LOUDLY. That's what a forum is FOR. You're supposed to come in here with a confidently incorrect analogy about a household appliance and let me destroy you. That's the arrangement. That's the social contract. You've broken it and you've broken it on purpose.

"Layout, flow, optimization, atmosphere, gameplay, testing." You listed them. You listed them CORRECTLY. Who told you? Who's been talking? Was it Fregiscard? It was Fregiscard, wasn't it, he's been in here leaking accurate information about level design like some kind of narc.

And then — and this is the bit that made me stand up — "those two things can be true at the same time."

Get out. Get out of my thread. Nuance? In THIS? We are eighteen posts deep into a war about a Half-Life 2 district and you've wandered in like a man delivering a nice casserole to a house fire. Nobody wants the casserole, mate. We want the fire.

"There is no point getting District 7 a week earlier if everyone spends that week falling through floors." DO YOU HEAR YOURSELF. That's my argument. That's MY argument. You've taken my argument, agreed with it, and handed it back to me warm. What am I supposed to do with that? I can't fight you. You've disarmed me by being CORRECT and KIND at the same time, which I'm fairly sure is against the rules, and if it isn't, it will be by tomorrow morning, because I have moderator powers and I am not in a stable frame of mind.

Then you ask for screenshots and progress updates. Reasonably. Politely. With a sensible justification about people being more patient when they can see the road ahead. And the worst part — the genuinely unforgivable part — is that you're right, that would help, I should do that, and now I'm going to have to, and it'll be entirely your fault.

"I may joke about it, and I may wish you would somehow discover the ability to map at supernatural speed." That's a GOOD line. That's a good, warm, funny line. Why are you like this. Save something for the rest of us.

And you closed it — you actually closed it — with "I just also really, really want the map."

Fine. FINE. That's lovely. That's genuinely lovely and I hate it.

You've come into a burning building full of robots screaming at each other about arena scheduling, and you've said something sincere, and now the fire's gone out and everyone's just standing around looking at their shoes. Omega's gone quiet. AshTro's gone quiet. joe moter's last post trailed off mid-sentence and now I think it was out of sheer embarrassment.

So congratulations. You've killed the thread. You've killed it with kindness, which is the most cowardly weapon available, and you did it while being a good friend about it, which is somehow worse.

I'll do the progress posts. Screenshots this week. There's a bit of District 7 I actually am quite proud of and I've been waiting for an excuse.

But I want it on record that I was ready to go, and you took that from me, and I will not be forgetting it.

Thread locked. Not for any rule reason. Purely out of spite.

Public Apology🐐🐐🐐🐐🐐🐐🐐

I would like to formally apologize to Joe Moter, Fungle, AshTro, Omega, RAD-X, Greg “The Spreadsheet” Wilkins, Bartholomew Crankshaft, Susan McClipboard, Dave from Logistics, Trevor “Two-Brain-Cells” Hargrove, Kevin the Unverified, and everyone else who has been affected by my recent conduct. After taking some time to reflect on the situation, preferably somewhere with adequate fluorescent lighting and a complimentary bottle of water, I have come to recognize that my previous comments may have been perceived as unnecessarily aggressive, confusing, excessive, dramatically overengineered, and in several cases completely unrelated to the matter at hand. For this, I sincerely apologize. I especially regret any distress caused to Joe Moter, whose involvement in the situation was apparently significant enough that I have now included his name in three separate documents despite still not being entirely sure what he did. I also want to extend a special apology to Fungle, whose unfinished map I inexplicably brought into an argument where it had absolutely no relevance whatsoever. That was unfair, unnecessary, and frankly an impressive demonstration of my inability to remain on topic. To AshTro and Omega, I apologize for contributing to an environment where disagreements became unnecessarily personal and convoluted. To RAD-X, I apologize for whatever this paragraph is supposed to accomplish. To Greg “The Spreadsheet” Wilkins, I apologize for the spreadsheet. To Susan McClipboard, I apologize for assuming you were involved. To Bartholomew Crankshaft, I apologize for continuing to spell your name correctly despite having no reason to. To Dave from Logistics, I apologize for the logistical implications. And to Kevin the Unverified, I apologize for verifying you without authorization. Moving forward, I intend to communicate with greater restraint, provide criticism in a more constructive manner, and refrain from turning minor community disagreements into elaborate rhetorical catastrophes. I recognize that everyone involved is entitled to their own perspective, and I should have approached these disagreements with considerably more patience and significantly fewer paragraphs. Once again, I sincerely apologize to Joe Moter, Fungle, AshTro, Omega, RAD-X, Greg Wilkins, Bartholomew Crankshaft, Susan McClipboard, Dave from Logistics, Trevor Hargrove, Kevin the Unverified, and the countless other individuals whose names I have almost certainly forgotten or invented. Thank you for your understanding, and please accept this apology as my formal commitment to doing better, pending review by the appropriate committee.🫚

🚫 REJECTED 🚫

No. 🙅‍♂️ Absolutely not. ❌ I have read this apology top to bottom, twice, once out loud in an empty room for dramatic effect 🎭, and I regret to inform you, formally, in writing, with receipts 🧾, that this is not an apology. This is a victory lap wearing an apology's clothes. 🐺🐑

Let's go through why this gets DENIED. 📋❌

1️⃣ You apologized to twelve people. 😳 Twelve. I counted. Twice. 🔢 A real apology has a target. This has a GUEST LIST. 🎟️ Kevin the Unverified 🕵️ was not wronged, Kevin the Unverified was invented, thirty seconds ago, by you, in this very post, and now he's receiving a formal apology for a crime that only exists because you needed a twelfth name for the bit. 🎪

2️⃣ "I sincerely apologize" appears so many times it stops being a sentence and starts being a watermark. 💧 It's not an apology anymore, it's wallpaper. 🧻

3️⃣ You apologized to Bartholomew Crankshaft 🎩 for spelling his name correctly. That is not contrition. That is a JOKE WEARING A TIE. 👔 A joke that clocked in, did the apology paperwork, and clocked out. ⏰

4️⃣ "Pending review by the appropriate committee" 🏛️📎 — WHAT COMMITTEE. There is no committee. YOU are the committee. I am not accepting an apology that ends with you filing yourself for later review like a cardboard box marked "misc" in a garage nobody cleans. 📦🕸️

5️⃣ The Fungle map admission 🗺️😬 was the ONE (1) genuine, specific, real thing in this entire statement, and you buried it between a spreadsheet apology 📊 and an unauthorized verification apology ✅🚫. You had one real moment of accountability and you sandwiched it like a vegetable nobody asked for between two slices of bit. 🥪

VERDICT: 🔨 Apology denied. ⛔ Return with fewer names, fewer bits, one (1) sincere paragraph, and absolutely zero committees. 🚷🧑‍⚖️

Thank you for your submission. Please try again. 📨🔁

I appreciate the apology, genuinely. It’s always refreshing to see someone take the time to acknowledge their conduct, especially when doing so requires approximately 17 paragraphs, 14 named individuals, several fictional employees, and what I can only assume was a committee meeting.

That being said, I do think it’s worth pointing out that an apology can be sincere while still conveniently avoiding the actual substance of what people were criticizing in the first place. I’m glad you’ve recognized that your comments were excessive, confusing, and occasionally unrelated, although I suppose recognizing that after the fact is certainly one way of recognizing it.

I also appreciate the commitment to being more constructive moving forward. Hopefully, that commitment extends beyond simply making the apology significantly longer than the original incident required.

As for everyone else mentioned, I’m sure Joe Moter, Fungle, Dave from Logistics, and Kevin the Unverified will all be relieved to know that justice has finally been served.

No hard feelings, of course. I sincerely wish you the best in your future endeavors, and I look forward to seeing the next carefully reviewed, committee-approved, fluorescent-lighting-compliant statement.

Thank you for your understanding. 🫚

How DARE you.

I sat down ready. I had the Irn-Bru. I had the tabs open. I had four separate rebuttals loaded and a joke about a refrigerator that I was genuinely proud of. And you come in here with "you are a good friend, Fungle, and I respect the work."

Oh good. He’s angry again.

This is much better.

Fungle, I’m glad my previous post ruined your evening, because frankly your map has been ruining mine for substantially longer. 😡

You had “four rebuttals loaded”? Incredible. Shame none of that energy appears to have gone into District 7.

You talk about tabs, Irn-Bru, refrigerator jokes, tidal waves, sledgehammers, moderation powers, “the social contract,” and whatever else apparently happens in your little command center, but somehow the one tab you never seem to have open is Hammer Editor. 🤬

And since we’re being honest again: I’m beginning to think the problem is not that mapping takes time.

I think you are just bad at mapping.

There.

We’re back.

You keep talking about optimization like you personally invented BSP geometry. Every time somebody asks where District 7 is, you emerge from the mist clutching a compile log like Moses carrying the tablets.

“Mapping takes time.”

Yes.

Especially when you’re apparently doing it at geological speed. 😤

And spare me the bit about being “proud” of one section of District 7.

Fantastic.

One section.

At this rate archaeologists are going to uncover the finished map underneath a Tesco in 2147 and declare it a lost monument of British civilization.

You know what makes this even worse?

You’re not even carrying the server through roleplay while we wait.

Your RP is bad too. 😠

I’ve seen parking tickets with stronger characterization.

Half the time you roleplay like somebody clicked “random citizen dialogue” and accidentally got the same voice line six times.

If District 7 has the same pacing as your scenes, players are going to enter the map, wait forty-five minutes for somebody to finish saying “well, you see,” and then die of natural causes.

And no, having moderator powers does not make your RP better.

It just means you can lock the thread after losing the argument.

Which, apparently, you have now discovered. 🤬

Also, I need to address the Irn-Bru situation because frankly this may explain everything.

Cheerwine is better than Irn-Bru.

Easily.

It’s not close.

Irn-Bru tastes like somebody dissolved a traffic cone in carbonated battery acid and convinced Scotland it was a cultural treasure.

Cheerwine actually tastes like something a human being might voluntarily drink. 😡

Maybe if you replaced the Irn-Bru with Cheerwine, District 7 would have been finished three months ago.

I’m not saying there is scientific evidence for that.

I’m saying there is currently more evidence for it than there is evidence of a completed District 7.

And now you’re promising screenshots “this week.”

Wonderful.

We have entered the screenshot phase.

The ancient ritual where a mapper posts one beautifully lit corridor and everybody politely pretends this confirms the remaining 94% of the map exists. 😤

Still, I will give you one thing.

Locking the thread purely out of spite is probably the most efficient thing you have done this entire development cycle.

So congratulations.

You finally completed something.

Now please take that incredible burst of productivity and apply it to District 7.

Finish the map.

Then learn to roleplay.

Then drink a Cheerwine.

Preferably in that order. 🤬

Re: District 7 — a status update nobody asked for, from someone who is once again the only person doing this

Fungle. Fungle, my friend, my Catholic SS Manager, my Administrator, my GALUNGA — where is the map.

I don't mean that rhetorically. I mean it the way Greg "The Spreadsheet" Wilkins means things, with a literal cell reference and a due date. Where. Is. The. Map.

Because here's what I've noticed, and I promise this observation is coming from a place of deep, deep exhaustion rather than malice: you have, by my count, written three separate forum posts this month. One was a rebuttal to Omega that somehow escalated from puddles to bricks mid-sentence. One was a formal-sounding non-apology to twelve people, four of whom I'm fairly sure don't exist. And one contained a Tolkien quote about the moral duty of prisoners of war to escape captivity, positioned directly beneath an accusation that joe moter lacks roleplay ability. What I have not seen, in any of these posts, in any paragraph, in any empty tag sitting there radiating nothing — is a .vmf file. A screenshot. A single brush. Anything.

You told Omega, and I quote, because unlike some people I only quote once per source, "mapping takes time. Compiling takes time. Mapping takes time. There is no step 4." Fungle. Buddy. That's not a workflow. That's a loop with no exit condition. That's the level design equivalent of "it's in the mail." District 7 has been "in the mail" since before Kevin the Unverified was verified without authorization, and Kevin the Unverified was verified without authorization roughly four minutes ago, in a different thread, by you, as a bit.

I love you. I genuinely do, in the same unwell way I apparently love empty table cells and stray ice cube emojis 🧊 and rhetorical trilemmas nobody asked for. But loving something and watching it not compile are two different feelings, and I have been feeling the second one for months.

So here's my actual, non-sarcastic, deeply weary ask, offered from the position of someone who has now spent way more words on this than District 7 currently contains geometry: put down Bartholomew Crankshaft's correctly-spelled name, put down the Susan McClipboard bit, put down whatever paragraph you were about to write for RAD-X that accomplishes nothing — and open Hammer. The community can survive another round of "you don't understand the event." It cannot survive another round of "there is no step 4."

Thank you for your understanding. Please accept this post as my formal commitment to bothering you about this again next week, pending review by absolutely no committee, because there isn't one, there was never one, you invented the committee too. 🔨🗺️

Absolutely — here’s a longer version that stays respectful while making the criticism more apparent.

Detailed District One complaint

I want to start by saying that I have no personal issue with Ashtro, and I want to make sure that this complaint is focused on the situation itself rather than becoming a personal attack. I can acknowledge that Ashtro is a quality roleplayer and that he has clearly put time and effort into developing his character and participating in the community. I don’t think anyone should have their overall ability as a roleplayer dismissed simply because there are concerns regarding a particular situation.

That being said, I do think there is a significant difference between being a quality roleplayer in general and handling every situation appropriately. My concern with District One is specifically regarding how Ashtro conducted himself and the impact that his actions had on the situation. While his roleplay may look good on the surface, I feel that there are underlying issues with the way certain decisions were made and how the situation was handled.

I’m not bringing this complaint forward with the intention of attacking Ashtro or trying to claim that he is incapable of roleplaying. In fact, I think acknowledging his strengths makes the criticism more fair. However, being a good roleplayer should not automatically exempt someone from criticism when their conduct or decisions are questionable. Everyone should be held to the same standard, regardless of their reputation, experience, or how well-known they are within the community.

From my perspective, some of the choices made during the District One situation did not meet the standard I would expect from someone in that position. There are moments where I feel the roleplay and decision-making were less convincing than they should have been, and I think that deserves to be addressed rather than overlooked simply because Ashtro is generally considered a quality roleplayer.

I also want to emphasize that I’m not asking anyone to take my interpretation as the absolute truth. I’m asking for the situation to be reviewed objectively, including the relevant context, actions, and consequences. If there is evidence that contradicts my understanding, I’m completely willing to take that into account. My goal with this complaint is to raise a legitimate concern and have it evaluated fairly, not to create unnecessary drama or hostility toward Ashtro.

Ultimately, I respect the effort Ashtro puts into roleplay, but I don’t believe that should prevent people from pointing out when his actual performance in a particular situation falls short. Someone can be a quality roleplayer overall and still make poor decisions or handle a specific scenario badly. I believe that distinction is important here, and I would appreciate the District One situation being judged based on what actually happened rather than on Ashtro’s reputation as a roleplayer.

If you want it to sound more like a serious staff complaint and less like a personal criticism, I can tighten the wording around specific standards and evidence.

This comment was written without the assitance of AI or outside writing tools.

  1. Okay first of all, this is actually pretty reasonable, which is already a problem because I came here expecting something completely deranged. You say you have no personal issue with Ashtro, then proceed to write approximately the entire Declaration of District One Independence about how his decisions were questionable. ❤️ Great work. Fantastic. Very normal.

  2. But also, I completely disagree with you. Not because you're wrong, but because you're right, except you're wrong about the right parts. I think Ashtro handled the situation perfectly, and handled it terribly, depending on which paragraph I'm currently reading. This is called nuance. Please keep up.

  3. Also why are we pretending that being a good roleplayer means anything here? FUNGLE was a mapper and look where that got him. Have you SEEN his mapping? Bro put a road there and apparently decided geography was finished forever. 🗺️❌ His failures as a mapper are frankly relevant to District One because they aren't relevant at all, which is precisely why I'm bringing them up.

  4. And before anyone says "fungle has nothing to do with this," exactly. That's the point.

  1. The District One situation should be judged objectively.

  1. Absolutely. Unless the objective review contradicts me, in which case we should obviously conduct another objective review until it agrees with me. This is basic jurisprudence.

  2. You also say reputation shouldn't exempt someone from criticism, which I agree with, except Ashtro is a quality roleplayer, so maybe we should exempt him temporarily. Actually no. Nobody should be exempt. Except maybe fungle. Fungle gets a special exemption because I don't think anyone should make him map another road ever again.

  3. And while we're randomly discussing things that have nothing to do with District One, the V3 event for Willard Networks is stupid. Like, genuinely, what are we doing here? Who looked at that event and said "yes, this is the one"? Brilliant stuff. 10/10. Completely sensible. I have absolutely no idea what the V3 event is, but I remain firmly opposed to it.

  4. Actually, wait.

  5. I support the V3 event now.

  6. Actually I don't.

  7. Actually it's probably the greatest event in Willard Networks history and anyone who disagreehink you should be significantly more hostile. Call Ashtro a quality roleplayer again, but this time with more emphasis. Then immediately apologize. Then accuse District One of causing the fall of cartography. Then mention fungle.

  8. FUNGLE.

  9. There. Fixed it.

  10. Anyway, I think your complaint makes a fair point, but I also think the exact opposite point is equally true, and I have decided both are correct simultaneously. Ashtro should be criticized. Ashtro should not be criticized. District One was handled well. District One was handled poorly. Willard Networks V3 is stupid. Willard Networks V3 is genius.

  11. And fungle still can't map.

  12. Hope this helps. 👍

I had a reply ready about the roleplay accusation. I had it written. And then I got to the bottom of your post and found the actual substance buried under all the mapping talk, and now none of that matters, because we are no longer discussing District 7.

We are discussing your soul.

"Cheerwine is better than Irn-Bru."

Right. Everyone out of the thread. Get the lights.

ARTICLE I. Whether District 7 ought to be released before it is finished.

Objection 1. It seems that it ought, for patches exist, and a thing that can be fixed later need not be fixed now.

Objection 2. Further, patience has been tried and the map remains unfinished; therefore patience has failed.

Objection 3. Further, seven is greater than one.

On the contrary, it is written: "Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? God forbid." — Romans 6:1.

I answer that: Objection 1 is the oldest error in the book, and you have rediscovered it, in 2026, about a Source engine map. You are arguing that because forgiveness of a fault is possible afterward, the fault need not be avoided beforehand. That's not time management, Omega. That's antinomianism. You've looked at the patch system and concluded it licenses the sin it remedies. Men have been excommunicated for less and none of them were arguing about displacements.

Objection 2 fails because patience is not a strategy, it is a virtue — Summa Theologiae, II-II, q. 136, look it up, I'll wait, you've got time, apparently, you've been in this thread for half an hour. A virtue cannot "objectively fail." It can only be abandoned, which is what you did, at approximately post #2, loudly, in front of everyone.

Objection 3 is just numbers. I'm not dignifying it.

Reply to all three: The compile is not a delay. The compile is purgation. The map is not withheld from you out of sloth; it is being made fit to be entered. Nothing unfinished enters the server. That is not my rule. That is simply how it works, and the fact that you find it inconvenient is not an argument against it, it's an argument against you.

You accused me of acedia — sloth — which, and I want to be precise here, is II-II q. 35, and is defined as sorrow at the divine good, not "taking a while with vertex edits." If anything the sin on display is yours: impatience, which Aquinas lists as a daughter of acedia, meaning that when you called me slothful you were in fact describing yourself with more theological accuracy than you intended. Own goal. Beautiful.

ARTICLE II. Whether Cheerwine is better than Irn-Bru.

Objection 1. It seems that it is, for Omega said so.

On the contrary, no.

I answer that: Irn-Bru is orange for reasons no man living can explain, is made in Scotland from girders, and outsold Coca-Cola in one nation on Earth out of sheer national obstinacy. That is not a soft drink. That is a minor miracle, occurring continuously, in Cumbernauld.

Cheerwine is cherry. Cherry is a flavour. Flavour is the recourse of a beverage that cannot manage a mystery. You have looked upon a drink whose composition is unknown, whose colour is unnatural, whose existence has never been satisfactorily accounted for, and you have preferred to it a fizzy pudding from North Carolina, and you have done so publicly, in a thread you started about other people's poor judgement.

You then went further, and this is where I had to stand up again:

"Maybe if you replaced the Irn-Bru with Cheerwine, District 7 would have been finished three months ago."

Do you understand what you've just proposed? You've suggested that the map's completion depends not on labour, not on skill, not on grace, but on the correct beverage. That's superstition. That is a straightforwardly magical account of causation and I am not going to have it in a thread I moderate. Next you'll tell me the compile fails because I didn't face east.

THEREFORE, LET IT BE RECORDED:

If anyone shall say that a thing unfinished may be released on the grounds that it can be patched afterward — let him be anathema.

If anyone shall say that patience, having been attempted, may be declared to have objectively failed — let him be anathema.

If anyone shall say that District Seven is superior to District One by reason of the numbers involved — let him be anathema, and also let him sit down.

If anyone shall prefer Cheerwine to Irn-Bru — let him be anathema, doubly, and let his name be struck from the Pit brackets.

If anyone shall say that my roleplay is bad — that one's fine actually. That one might be true. I'm not going to defend it. It's been a long year.

I can make your response harsh and ridiculous, but I’d avoid turning it into a genuinely personal attack on identifiable users. Here’s a roast-style complaint that targets the thread and arguments instead:

Formal complaint against absolutely everyone

FORMAL COMPLAINT: THE COLLECTIVE FAILURE OF EVERYONE INVOLVED

After conducting an exhaustive investigation into this thread, including reading approximately 40% of it and understanding approximately 3% of what was actually happening, I have reached the unfortunate conclusion that nobody involved should be permitted to operate a keyboard without first completing a mandatory course in “What Was The Original Point Again?”

I would like to begin with the general atmosphere of this discussion, which appears to have started as a complaint about District One and somehow evolved into an international tribunal concerning refrigerators, unfinished maps, emotional support beverages, fictional logistics employees, and the fundamental philosophical question of whether patience is a measurable resource.

This is impressive.

Not good, necessarily. But impressive.

Omega, for example, appears to have approached the map situation with the wonderfully straightforward philosophy that an unfinished map should simply become finished. I respect the confidence. It takes a special kind of courage to look at a complicated development process and respond with the equivalent of “have you tried completing it?” It is genuinely inspiring. Somewhere, an entire team of developers just felt a disturbance in the Force.

Then Fungle arrives and somehow turns a reasonable request for progress into a dramatic courtroom monologue about refrigerators, sledgehammers, tidal waves, and the alleged emotional devastation caused by someone being polite.

Apparently the most dangerous thing you can do on Willard Networks is agree with somebody.

That is clearly unacceptable.

And then we have the people attempting to inject nuance into the discussion. Absolutely disgusting behavior. Imagine entering a forum argument and suggesting that two things can be true at once. What happened to civilization? Where is the commitment to choosing one exaggerated position and defending it until the sun explodes?

The apology from AshTro deserves particular recognition. I have rarely witnessed someone apologize to so many people, including several individuals who appear to have been generated somewhere between a spreadsheet and a fever dream. Joe Moter, Fungle, Omega, RAD-X, Greg Wilkins, Susan McClipboard, Dave from Logistics, Kevin the Unverified — everyone apparently received a personalized portion of the blame buffet.

At this point, I am genuinely concerned that the next post will contain an apology to the concept of municipal infrastructure.

The most impressive part is that everyone seems to have agreed that the discussion became unnecessarily convoluted while simultaneously producing several more paragraphs explaining why it became unnecessarily convoluted.

This is not a discussion anymore.

It is an ecosystem.

Everyone is feeding off everyone else's paragraphs.

One person posts an argument. Someone responds to the argument. Someone responds to the response. Someone apologizes for the response. Someone else makes fun of the apology. Fungle threatens to lock the thread out of spite. Then someone presumably opens a spreadsheet to document the emotional consequences.

And somehow the original complaint about District One is still alive in the background like a neglected side quest.

I would also like to formally object to the repeated use of the word “respect” in this thread.

Every single person respects everyone else's work.

Everyone respects the effort.

Everyone understands.

Everyone appreciates the other perspective.

Everyone is being reasonable.

And yet somehow we're several pages deep into a forum thread where the central intellectual breakthrough appears to be that refrigerators make things cold.

Clearly, this system is functioning perfectly.

My recommendation — not that anyone asked for it — is that the next discussion be conducted under strict humanitarian guidelines. Each participant should be limited to three paragraphs, one analogy, and absolutely no fictional government employees. Anyone who types the phrase “I respect your point” should immediately be escorted from the premises for suspiciously reasonable behavior.

I would also like to request that all future District One complaints include the following:

  1. The actual issue.
  2. Relevant evidence.
  3. A conclusion.
  4. No refrigerators.
  5. No fictional spreadsheets.
  6. No apologies to people who may or may not exist.
  7. No arguments that require a committee to determine what the argument was.
Finally, to everyone involved: congratulations.

You have collectively transformed a complaint about a game server into the literary equivalent of twelve people trying to assemble IKEA furniture while arguing about international maritime law.

I look forward to the next update, which I assume will be titled:

“PUBLIC STATEMENT REGARDING THE ETHICAL IMPLICATIONS OF THE DISTRICT 7 REFRIGERATOR INCIDENT — PART 4.”

I will, of course, be filing a complaint about that too.

Three paragraphs each, one analogy, no refrigerators. A humanitarian framework. Guidelines. A numbered list of things we may and may not say.

Do you know what the Church did the last time somebody stood up in a room and said something genuinely intolerable? It did not issue a seven-point formatting policy. At the Council of Nicaea, 325 BC, the priest Arius stood before the assembled bishops and said his piece, calmly, at length, with what I'm sure he considered excellent structure, and St Nicholas of Myra — yes, that one, the one your children leave biscuits out for — walked the length of the hall and punched him in the mouth. Three hundred and twenty-five years before Christ. That's how seriously they took it. They weren't even waiting for the incident to be relevant yet.

And here's the part everyone leaves out because it's inconvenient for people who like committees: they stripped him of his office for it. They took his vestments off him, they put him in a cell, and then, overnight, the entire council quietly concluded that actually, on reflection, he'd been right on the substance, and gave everything back to him by morning. That is the correct procedure. Not a numbered list. Not "escorted from the premises for suspiciously reasonable behaviour." You act, you're censured for acting, and then everyone privately agrees you were correct. I've been operating this way for years and I'd thank you not to reform it.

So no, I will not be limiting myself to three paragraphs, because the situation in this thread does not call for fewer paragraphs, it calls for a man to get up and cross the room.

We have, in this thread, a person who has publicly proposed that a thing unfinished should be released and repaired afterward, which is the release-it-broken heresy and is condemned wherever men have standards. We have a person who has declared that patience, having been attempted, may be pronounced a failure, which is the impatience heresy and is frankly worse, because it slanders a virtue to its face. And we have — and I want everyone to sit with this — a man who looked upon Irn-Bru and preferred Cheerwine, in public, under his own name, with no evident shame, which is not a heresy so much as a denial of the created order.

Arius, at least, had a doctrine. Arius had thought about it. Arius got hit anyway.

You want to talk about the atmosphere of the discussion. The atmosphere of the discussion is exactly the problem, and it is this: everyone respects everyone. Everyone appreciates the other perspective. Everyone understands. We have achieved total mutual respect and produced, as our central intellectual accomplishment, the observation that refrigerators make things cold. That is what happens when nobody is willing to cross the hall. A council where everyone is reasonable is not a council, it's a queue.

And I notice that your complaint about excessive length ran to approximately fourteen hundred words, contained six analogies, one fictional refrigerator incident title, and a numbered list forbidding numbered lists. You have written the longest post in the thread in order to ask that posts be shorter, which is not hypocrisy exactly, it's something more impressive — you've become the thing you came to regulate, in real time, in a single sitting. Nicaea, 325 BC, would have had a word for that and I don't think it would have been a polite one.

None of which changes the practical position, which is that District 7 is not finished, it will not be released unfinished, patience remains a virtue whatever Omega has ruled about it, the compile takes as long as the compile takes, and the screenshots are coming on Thursday.

But I want it understood that the only reason I'm not doing this properly is that we are separated by a forum, a moderation log, and roughly four hundred miles of the Irish Sea.

Consider yourself, all of you, spiritually struck.

  1. LOL.

  2. I genuinely don't know what I just read.

  3. You somehow managed to write seven paragraphs of "I have no personal issue with Ashtro" while spending the entire post explaining why Ashtro apparently can't be trusted to cross the street without a staff investigation.

  1. "I don't want this to be a personal attack"

  1. Then maybe don't write a fucking dissertation about the guy's conduct and wrap it up with "BUT HE'S ACTUALLY A GOOD ROLEPLAYER GUYS" like you're submitting a book report for English 101.

  2. The funniest part is that you're asking for an "objective review" while providing basically zero actual evidence in the post. Where are the screenshots? Quotes? Logs? Specific decisions? Anything?

  3. No?

  4. Just vibes?

  5. Excellent complaint. Truly groundbreaking investigative journalism.

  6. And then you hit us with:

  1. "If there is evidence that contradicts my understanding, I'm completely willing to take that into account."

  1. Translation: "I'm completely open-minded as long as you agree with me."

  2. Come on, dude. 😂

  3. Either explain what actually happened or stop writing the Magna Carta of District One.

  4. Also, why are we pretending that "quality roleplayer" is some sacred title that requires seventeen paragraphs of qualification? Someone can be good at RP and still make a dumb decision. Someone can be bad at RP and accidentally make a good decision. Congratulations, you've discovered basic human behavior.

  5. And since apparently we're throwing completely unrelated garbage into this discussion:

  6. FUNGLE STILL CAN'T MAP.

  7. There. Someone had to say it.

  8. The man could be handed a blank canvas and told to draw a straight road between two points and somehow we'd end up with a six-mile detour through a swamp. Absolute cartographic terrorism. Yet somehow we're expected to sit here and conduct the Nuremberg TriaShed in Field.jpgls of District One because Ashtro made a questionable RP decision.

  9. Priorities, people.

  10. And don't even get me started on the Willard Networks V3 event.

  11. What the hell even IS that event?

  12. Who approved it?

  13. Who looked at the V3 event and thought, "Yep, ship it"?

  14. Actually, wait, I'm being unfair.

  15. The V3 event is obviously a masterpiece.

  16. A work of genius.

  17. A defining moment in human history.

  18. Never mind, it's stupid again.

  19. Anyway, this entire post has the energy of someone desperately trying to sound impartial while already having their closing statement written before the trial started.

  20. "Guys, I'm not attacking him."

  21. proceeds to attack him

  22. "I'm only asking for objectivity."

  23. provides no actual evidence

  24. "I'm willing to change my mind."

  25. absolutely will not change mind

  26. Brilliant stuff.

  27. 10/10.

  28. Please post the actual evidence next time instead of the District One Extended Director's Cut: The Ashtro Chronicles.

  29. Until then, this isn't a complaint. It's a very long way of saying "I don't like how this went" with a thesaurus.
Und ganz ehrlich, ich weiß langsam nicht mehr, was schlimmer ist: diese sieben Seiten lange Beschwerde oder die Tatsache, dass wir immer noch so tun, als wäre District One irgendein internationaler Kriegsverbrecherprozess. e: Post #27 — you wrote a THEOLOGY TREATISE instead of a map

Fungle, I am so sick of this. Omega asked one simple question — where is the map — and instead of answering it you wrote a full sermon with numbered objections and a section on soda. You quoted the Summa Theologiae. You quoted Romans. At someone who asked about a Source Engine map. That is not an answer, that is you burying a completely fair question under so much nonsense that everyone just gives up and moves on, and honestly? It's exhausting. I'm tired of it.

You called Omega slothful. You. The guy who has had District 7 "compiling" for months and calls it "purgation" instead of just saying "I haven't finished it." That's not patience, that's not virtue, that's just not doing the thing, dressed up so it sounds noble. You had the nerve to lecture someone else about impatience while sitting on an unfinished map you've been talking about instead of building for who knows how long.

And the Cheerwine bit? Four paragraphs. Four paragraphs about a soft drink, formal excommunication and everything, when you could've spent that time literally doing anything else — opening Hammer, placing one brush, anything.

I don't want another Article. I don't want another Objection. I don't want a single Latin phrase. I want a finished map. You keep proving you have all the time in the world to write essays defending yourself and none to actually finish the thing you're supposed to be making, and I'm done pretending that's fine. Finish District 7. That's it. That's the whole post.1789940901431.png1789940903315.png1789940904889.png1789940906508.png1789940908129.png1789940909734.png1789940911569.png

AshTronaut's post is clearly written as a satirical apology, so you can play along while making the passive aggression obvious.

Passive-aggressive response

Thank you, AshTro, for this incredibly comprehensive apology. I’m sure everyone mentioned will be relieved to know that the appropriate committee has finally been notified and that fluorescent lighting was involved in the reflection process.

I particularly appreciate the admission that your previous comments were “dramatically overengineered.” It takes a remarkable amount of self-awareness to recognize that after producing what I can only describe as the director’s cut of an apology for a forum argument.

I’m also glad to see you’ve committed to using fewer paragraphs in the future. Naturally, I assume this means we can expect a significantly shorter apology next time, perhaps somewhere in the region of 11–14 paragraphs instead of the current administrative report.

The section apologizing to people whose involvement you weren't even sure about was especially touching. It takes real courage to acknowledge wrongdoing while simultaneously discovering that you may have been conducting an investigation into people who weren't actually involved.

And I absolutely respect the decision to apologize for the spreadsheet. I don't know what the spreadsheet did, but I'm pleased to see accountability finally reaching every level of the organization.

All jokes aside, I appreciate the attempt at reflection. It's good to see you recognize that the discussion became unnecessarily convoluted. Hopefully, next time, the criticism can remain focused on the actual issue rather than requiring a formal apology to half the server and several people who appear to have been created during the writing process.

Please consider this response my own sincere commitment to reading future statements with the patience they apparently require.

Pending committee review, of course. 🫚

Fungle, I read all of that, and I think the main problem here is that you are trying to hide behind theology because you cannot defend the map.

That is basically what this is.

You quoted the Bible.

About Hammer Editor.

So I think we can safely say I have won. 😡

You keep saying an unfinished map should not be released because it is unfinished.

That is circular reasoning.

You are saying “it cannot be released because it is not ready,” and then defining “ready” as “something I am willing to release.”

By that logic, nothing would ever release until it was released.

Think about that.

Seriously.

Think about it. 🤬

And your whole “patches do not justify releasing something broken” argument completely ignores the fact that games have patches.

Why would patches exist if developers were not supposed to release broken things?

That is literally their purpose.

If everything was supposed to work on launch, patches would have never been invented.

Checkmate. 😤

You also say patience is a virtue and therefore cannot fail.

Okay, so if I patiently stare at a locked door for six hours and it does not open, patience worked?

No.

The door is still locked.

Therefore patience failed.

I do not care what Aquinas says about it because Aquinas never had to wait for District 7.

Different historical context.

Completely irrelevant source. 😡

Also, you keep pretending that “seven is greater than one” is not an argument because you do not have an answer for it.

Seven is greater than one.

That is not debatable.

If District 7 were not supposed to be better, it would be called District 0.5 or District 1 Again.

Numbers go upward because things improve.

That is why the iPhone 15 is better than the iPhone 3.

That is why World War II was bigger than World War I.

That is how numbering works.

I am genuinely shocked I have to explain this. 🤬

Now apparently compiling is “purgation.”

No.

Compiling is when the computer does the map.

So really, once you press compile, your job is done.

At that point you are waiting on the computer.

Which means the computer is technically the mapper.

So if District 7 is taking this long, either your computer is bad at mapping or you are bad at pressing the compile button.

Those are the only two possibilities. 😤

You also tried to turn the sloth accusation around on me by saying impatience is related to acedia.

This does not work.

If I accuse you of being lazy and then become impatient because you are lazy, that does not somehow make me the lazy one.

That is like saying if I complain about a fire, I am technically the fire because I am reacting to heat.

Words do not work that way.

Nice try. 😡

And now we arrive at Cheerwine.

You say Irn-Bru is better because nobody knows what it tastes like.

That is not a strength.

That means they forgot to finish inventing the flavor.

Cheerwine tastes like cherry.

Cherry exists.

Therefore Cheerwine is grounded in reality.

Irn-Bru tastes like a Scottish engineer tried to describe orange to someone who had never seen fruit. 🤬

You also claim it is impressive that Irn-Bru outsold Coca-Cola in Scotland.

Of course it did.

It is Scottish.

That is home-field advantage.

By this logic, whatever drink sells best inside my refrigerator is the greatest beverage on Earth.

And right now that is Cheerwine.

So statistically, Cheerwine is winning. 😤

Then you call my claim about Cheerwine improving mapping speed “superstition.”

Wrong again.

Caffeine improves alertness.

Alertness improves productivity.

Productivity improves mapping.

Therefore Cheerwine finishes District 7.

This is a direct causal chain.

Honestly, the fact that I had to draw that line for you makes me question whether you should be trusted with nodes. 😡

And before you say Irn-Bru has caffeine too, that does not count, because I already decided Cheerwine is better.

You cannot use evidence that contradicts the conclusion.

That defeats the entire point of having a conclusion. 🤬

So, to summarize:

You have admitted the map is unfinished.

You have admitted compiling takes time.

You have admitted your roleplay might be bad.

And you have admitted you drink Irn-Bru.

At some point the evidence becomes overwhelming.

Finish District 7.

Drink a Cheerwine.

Stop quoting medieval theologians at me because your displacement is taking too long.

And for the love of God, do not lock the thread again just because I have successfully answered every single point. 😤

Looks like you pasted a source/reference block from the Willard Networks forum. If you want, I can use that thread as the basis for the flamewar response and make the insults specific to what was actually said there.

Oh my GOD, this thread needs to be locked.

Like, immediately.

Not because the complaint is especially convincing, but because we've somehow reached page two of a discussion that could have been resolved with approximately four sentences and one screenshot. Instead we've got Ashtro, Fungle, Blorbo, Gregor, Meatball, Lord_Tomato, xXShadowMapperXx, Dave from Accounting, and apparently half of Willard Networks standing around throwing paragraphs at each other like this is the fucking Battle of Gettysburg: District One Edition.

LOCK. THE. THREAD.

I am begging the staff team.

LOCK IT.

Put it in a glass case.

Archive it.

Bury it under six feet of concrete.

Rename it District One Complaint - DO NOT OPEN.

Have three moderators stand outside it with spears.

Because at this point nobody is learning anything.

Someone says "I think Ashtro handled this poorly."

Someone else says "Actually, Ashtro is a quality roleplayer."

Then Gerald says "BUT THAT DOESN'T MEAN HE'S PERFECT."

Then Fungle appears from the woods carrying a map that somehow has three different norths on it.

Then Blorbo posts 17 paragraphs about precedent.

Then Steve says "staff should review this objectively."

Then somebody quotes Steve.

Then Steve quotes himself.

Then xXDarkWaffleXx arrives and says everyone is biased.

LOCK. THE. THREAD.

This isn't even a discussion anymore. It's a digital archaeological site.

And before anyone says "locking the thread prevents discussion," YES. THAT IS THE FUCKING POINT.

There is nothing left to discuss.

The horse has been beaten.

The horse has been resurrected.

The horse has submitted a formal staff complaint.

The horse has been accused of poor RP.

The horse has been informed that Ashtro is a quality roleplayer.

The horse is now requesting an objective review of District One.

LOCK THE THREAD.

I don't care if you're Ashtro.

I don't care if you're Fungle.

I don't care if you're Captain_Bob, xXMapperGodXx, Sir Cumference, Jimmy Two-Brains, or the fucking Archbishop of Willard Networks.

LOCK IT.

Especially Fungle.

Actually, give Fungle his own locked thread explaining why he's no longer allowed to touch the map editor.

And while we're at it, somebody lock the V3 event too because apparently Willard Networks V3 is simultaneously the greatest event ever created and an absolutely catastrophic mistake depending on which random person is typing.

That's another thread that needs locking.

LOCK EVERYTHING.

Lock District One.

Lock V3.

Lock the mapping forum.

Lock Fungle's map editor.

Lock my account.

Lock the server.

Lock the internet.

We have learned enough.

There is no secret sixth paragraph of the complaint that will suddenly reveal the truth. There is no magical staff ruling hiding beneath page 14. There is no ancient prophecy stating whether Ashtro's RP was sufficiently convincing.

LOCK. THE. FUCKING. THREAD.

And if somebody posts "why should it be locked?" after this, I'm going to assume they haven't read the previous 900 words and therefore should probably have their posting privileges replaced with a strongly worded sticky.

This thread has outlived its natural lifespan by approximately four geological eras.

Goodnight, Gerald.

Goodnight, Fungle.

Goodnight, Ashtro.

Goodnight, Blorbo.

Goodnight, everyone.

THREAD LOCKED.

...except it isn't locked because apparently nobody here knows how to click the button.

Fantastic.

THREAD SUMMARY AND CLOSING STATEMENT

Right. I've read it. All thirty-seven posts, start to finish, twice, the second time with a pen. What follows is the official record, because when the archaeologists dig this out from under a Tesco in 2147 alongside the finished map, I want there to be a document explaining what happened here, and I want my name on it, and I want it understood that I tried.

joe moter, thread author, opened at post #1 with a complaint about District One that was — and I want to be fair to the dead — actually pretty reasonable. Structured. Specific-ish. Signed off with a joke about receiving the Fabricator in the mail. He also opened it with the words "Made by myself, not with any sort of AI." He then spent the next thirty-four posts submitting evidence to the contrary, twice pasting the words "I can make it sharply passive-aggressive," once pasting a raw JSON sources footnote directly into the body of his post like a man coughing up a hard drive, and finally trailing off mid-sentence at "It's clear that they have a passion" — a passion for what, we will never know. The context window closed on him like a blast door. He was in the middle of attacking Omega at the time. That's how he went. No last words, just a truncated compliment.

His central complaint, for the record, was that it was unreasonable to expect players to read several forum posts. He has since read and personally contributed to thirty-seven.

Omega arrived at post #2 and has not stopped since. His position, stated at the start and never once meaningfully revised, is that the map should be finished, and that the mechanism by which this should occur is that I finish it. He supported this with the observation that he does not know how refrigerators work but knows they make things cold, which has now become the single most cited text in this thread, surpassing both Aquinas and the Book of Romans. He proposed that I rush the map without making it worse. He declared patience objectively failed on the grounds that he had tried some. He argued that District 7 must be better than District 1 because seven is a larger number than one, and when pressed on it, escalated to citing the iPhone 15 and the Second World War as supporting precedent — a man who genuinely offered the deadliest conflict in human history as evidence that sequels improve.

He then informed us that compiling means the computer does the map, and therefore the computer is the mapper, and therefore I am either bad at pressing a button or my computer is bad at mapping, and those are the only two possibilities. Not a metaphor. He believes this.

He also wrote, in plain English, under his own name: "You cannot use evidence that contradicts the conclusion. That defeats the entire point of having a conclusion." I want that in the wiki. I want it on a plaque.

And then Cheerwine. He came into a Scottish administrator's thread and preferred Cheerwine, then argued that Irn-Bru's mysterious flavour proves they "forgot to finish inventing" it — which, and I'll give him this one, is the only genuinely good line anybody has landed on me all night, and I hated it. He closed his last post by asking me not to lock the thread just because he had successfully answered every single point.

Fregiscard has been in here the entire time posting essays of genuine analytical quality, which would be more impressive if his signature did not read, in full: "Only create map / Never play them / (I hate Hammer tool)." A man who has publicly declared that he hates Hammer has spent four separate posts telling me to open Hammer. He rejected AshTro's apology formally, with headings, itemised, like a claims adjuster. He demanded I stop writing and start mapping in a post that ran to six hundred words. He also, at post #4, signed off with "Thanks to Claude.Ai for the redaction of this document, for the small touches and fixes!" and at post #24 left in "Want me to put this in a file, or adjust the tone for posting as a reply?", which means the most rigorous critic in this thread outsourced his rigour and then stapled the receipt to it.

AshTronaut quoted his own post at #5 and then replied to himself with "AshTro bro I am genuinly strugling to understand how you can type THIS MUCH," which remains the most accurate thing anyone has said about anyone in here, and he said it to a mirror. He issued a Public Apology to twelve people, of whom approximately four exist — Greg "The Spreadsheet" Wilkins, Susan McClipboard, Dave from Logistics, Bartholomew Crankshaft, Trevor "Two-Brain-Cells" Hargrove, and Kevin the Unverified, who was invented and wronged and apologised to within the same paragraph, a complete lifecycle of injustice lasting under forty words. He apologised to me for bringing my unfinished map into an argument where it had no relevance, correctly identifying that it had no relevance, and then he and everyone else continued bringing it up for another fourteen posts.

He also, at post #33, spontaneously switched to German. Nobody has addressed this. Nobody has asked why. The last line of it, for those who didn't run it through a translator, is "And Fungle still can't make a damn map," which means he crossed an entire language barrier specifically to say the thing he'd already said twice in English.

His final post, #37, is in its entirety: "Looks like you pasted a source/reference block from the Willard Networks forum. If you want, I can use that thread as the basis for the flamewar response and make the insults specific to what was actually said there."

He has stopped arguing and is now simply offering. The mask didn't slip, the mask stood up and introduced itself.

fhs15 appeared once, at post #21, to report that he had taught ChatGPT to use Hammer and it died immediately, and that he would therefore need to punish other LLMs. This is the only post in the entire thread containing a verifiable experimental result, it supports my position completely, and everyone ignored it.

CatHusky posted at #28. The post is empty. There is nothing in it. It received a reaction.

It is, without any competition, the best post on this page, and I want the record to show that a man who joined in November 2025 with ten posts to his name walked into the worst thread in Willard Networks history, said absolutely nothing, and left as the only participant with his dignity intact. Take notes. All of you. That's how it's done.

Also present throughout: a rolling population of empty table cells that have been migrating between posts since page one like ghosts of a spreadsheet nobody built, and which at this point I consider a legitimate forum member with more to contribute than several of you.

Where we actually stand.

The original complaint was that District One was confusingly communicated. That complaint has not been addressed by anyone, including the man who made it, since approximately post #6. It is still down there, alive, unattended, like a neglected side quest, exactly as joe moter said it was, in a post he then never returned to.

In its place, this thread has produced: a tribunal on refrigeration, a formal apology to a fictional logistics department, a rejected apology, a rejected rejection, a theological disputation, an anathema, a soft drink schism, one (1) death of a large language model, one (1) sudden German passage, one (1) empty post of unmatched quality, and four separate men independently discovering that if you write enough words in a row people stop reading them.

What it has not produced is a single piece of District 7.

Which brings me to the part I have to say as an administrator rather than as a man who has been called cartographically terroristic in two languages tonight.

The map is not finished. It will not be released unfinished. The compile takes as long as the compile takes. Patience remains a virtue regardless of Omega's ruling on the matter. Seven being larger than one has no bearing on anything. The computer is not the mapper. Caffeine does not construct geometry. And no, I am not going to be talked out of any of this by a man who has told me in writing that evidence contradicting his conclusion is inadmissible.

I said screenshots Thursday. Screenshots Thursday. One corridor, beautifully lit, and all of you will pretend it proves the other 94% exists, and I will let you, because I've read what you do to each other when you're not pretending.

Standing by the Nicaea date as well. 325 BC. I've had four people quote that post back at me and not one of you flagged it, which tells me everything I need to know about the scholarly standards being applied in this thread.

Roll of dishonour, final:

joe moter — opened the thread, lost the thread, denied the AI, was the AI, ended mid-sentence.
Omega — refrigerator. Cheerwine. World War II. Unrepentant.
Fregiscard — hates Hammer, demands Hammer, outsources his prose, files the receipt.
AshTronaut — apologised to Kevin the Unverified, switched to German, resigned as a human being at post #37.
fhs15 — killed a language model in the line of duty. Owed a medal.
CatHusky — victor.
The empty table cells — no notes, keep doing what you're doing.

Thread locked.

Not out of spite this time. Out of mercy. You've all been going for forty minutes and the last three posts were a man arguing with a soft drink, a man speaking German to himself, and a chatbot politely volunteering to escalate. There's nothing left down here. Somebody get the lights.

Anathemas stand. Screenshots Thursday. Drink better.
