Made by myself, not with any sort of AI.
To the distinguished scholars responsible for District One, I’m going to be honest, I don’t really understand what the goal of the District One event was supposed to be.
From what I remember seeing on the forums, this was meant to be a fairly structured RP event with The Pit, the different groups, the governor stuff, and the various activities surrounding it. But in practice it felt like the event kept changing what it wanted to be depending on what was happening at the time.
The Pit is probably the easiest example. It was presented as a major part of the event, with brackets and fights and all that, but then apparently it was “just a subplot.” If something is getting this much attention, people are obviously going to treat it as one of the main attractions. You can't really blame players for that.
Then there was the whole Fabricator situation. The prize was apparently supposed to be a Fabricator, which is fine, but the way everything was handled made it feel like the prize was being used as the entire justification for the event. Maybe that wasn't the intention, but that's how it came across.
And then you have Mohawk versus Gator, followed by the Whale stuff, which is where I genuinely stopped understanding what was going on. Maybe there was context for all of this. Maybe I missed it. But if someone has to read multiple forum posts, cross-reference event updates, and reconstruct the timeline to understand why something is happening, that's not exactly great communication.
Same thing with the political side of the event. There were apparently going to be speeches from governor candidates around the Pit fights. I'm sure there was a perfectly sensible reason for that, but putting political speeches alongside an arena event makes the whole thing feel like several different events got stapled together at the last minute.
The gang system was another thing. Players apparently had the ability to form their own groups and choose how they wanted to approach District One. That's a good idea on paper, but it also means the event needs enough direction that those groups actually have something meaningful to do. Otherwise you just end up with people standing around waiting for the next announcement.
And yes, I know the response is probably going to be “you could have participated differently.”
That's not really the point.
If the answer to criticism is always that the player should have personally adapted to whatever happened, then there isn't much point in having an organized event in the first place. At some point the event itself has to communicate what players are supposed to be doing.
Maybe I misunderstood half of the forum posts. That's entirely possible. In fact, judging by how many different things seemed to be happening simultaneously, I probably did.
But that's kind of the problem.
I shouldn't need to assemble a forensic timeline of District One to figure out what the actual event was.
There were fights. There were gangs. There were political speeches. There were prizes. There were auctions. There were characters with names that sound like they were generated by a wildlife documentary.
Somehow all of this was supposed to form one coherent event.
I'm not saying nobody had fun. I'm sure people did. I'm saying that from a player's perspective, the whole thing was significantly harder to follow and engage with than it needed to be.
So please, for future events, just communicate what is actually happening, what players are expected to do, what parts are optional, and what the rewards actually mean.
I promise nobody will die if the event description is slightly less mysterious. Well. Probably.
Thank you for your time.
I expect my Fabricator in the mail.
