Let's talk about radios, the current radios we have, we know them and we can even sing along from the sheer amount of times we have listened to them. I'm pretty sure everyone knows all the radios already and sometimes we want more of them or more songs.
But it isn't easy for devs to just pop out radios, they have to code them and insert the new songs and make sure it all works properly, it is just more trouble to then have people ask for more radios because they already got tired of the new one.

This is where I want to present everyone with 3D Stream Radio.

Now I understand the worries behind this addon, but before we address them let's go over the benefits first.


Not only is it easy to add songs and create playlists for the players to use, made by the devs and the admins which will include time-accurate songs (aka from before 2001) It also allows users to choose any song fitting best at the moment.

  • - The radio can be configurable to the user's desire
  • - It can be muted to themselves only, lower its volume, and even mess with the refractor of the radio to allow them to hear the song even behind props if wish.
  • -It's a versatile addon, that allows for a lot of customization and freedom both for users and the staff.
But the radio isn't just for the users, it also opens an amazing tool for staff to use, the radio can be made into any prop of the game and used for events or even made invisible to simply cause sounds around the players, thanks to its 3D sound.

With the benefits said, let's talk about the bad points of this addon:
  • it can be abused by players: Any player with PET flags can go around spawning radios and posting meme music or even ear-raping people, it's true. Although this can be solved by using a flag, a flag that can be removed by any staff member at any point if there is any evidence of abuse.
The radio can't be crafted: Sadly, for it to be crafted this would require coding for players to deploy the radio. While this is true and poses a "what now? How do we get the radio?", it can be done by creating a "dud" radio item in the crafting wich requires you to request an admin to spawn such radio for you in a place

The radios can turn places into nice RP hubs where people will hang out to RP and listen to music. Or it can simply be spawned by staff around the map in already-known RP hubs to supply the players with music and help attract more people to them. This is entirely up to the dev and staff team to see how it fits better with the server.

I think this radio addon would benefit greatly as a tool for RP and a tool for staff.

sounds fun. but does it let u play spotify/utube links or is it limited to .wav and .mp3 files? cuz u had me hooked at the prospect of being able to blast 1999-2001 slipknot

It allows you to submit files to make a Playlist or directly add a Playlist from the YouTube.
But direct links from YouTube to a single video are not allowed.
It needs the file, so what I do is I download the songs and paste them all into Dropbox or one drive and create a single folder where I then add as a Playlist.
Another alternative is creating one big file with al songs in it like a mix.
Shit we could even make a rebel radio if we had two people or one to act as a fm radio talker.

It's why I love this add-on it has a lot of things to do and possible. And its easier than having devs spend 5 hours to code another radio for us wich will in no time be just tiring cause it's been played over 300x times and people want new songs, this allows for a huge variation of songs to be added.
Plus they don't even have to add files to the game itself so no filling up the server's data the radio takes the music from links so all that data is not filling up like the custom scripts.
 
For example in nebulous they made a song where someone was payed to do a voice of a rebel who is out in the Outlands broadcasting the frequency after freeman happened. So you hear the guy talking about rebelling and stuff and then plays songs. It's really cool and imaginative.
And it also cna even be used for cool events, I'm sure uhm rad-x would love this cause I know rad loves to do dramatic stuff with audio.
Making someone deliver a message through a small radio and once you aproach it the gm watching holds the c menu and presses play. Playing the custom audio they made for that event.

THIS ADDON CAN LET YOU STREAM PORN TO THE ENTIRE SERVER IF YOU HAVE AN AUDIO FILE TURN THE RADIO RANGE UP TO THE MAXIMUM.
 
@M!NT is working on a newly revamped radio script, and while it may not be what you're suggesting, it's something pretty cool to look forward to, in my opinion. I don't see this being accepted since developers are already working on something related to radios.
 
Evening.

1) Like you said, a radio like this where anyone with PET can add songs is very concerning to me.
2) We really shouldn't be using net stream audio on a large scale like this.
3) I don't think this addon is very immersive.
4) I am already working on a overhaul of radios, which includes radios with a 3D2D interface. See this thread, and also the video below.

For the reasons above, I will be marking this as,
