So far from what I've seen, the available radios are quite limited, you got two radios which are either classical or 'patriotic' like music for the loyalists and 2~3 other radios that are supposedly illegal. I've honestly grown a bit sick of hearing the same 10~ ish tracks on loop from both the vintage and union radio, and it barely if at all improves any ambience or RP in any store....well any that isn't fit for a classical vibe or patriotic vibe (ala. Sanctum of Breen).

So, what am I suggesting?
One of two things:

1. - 3D Stream Radios - https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=246756300
It allows anyone that has one to choose from a preset list (which can be customized/regulated by CMs) of real life radio stations to play streamed music of any genre, great for setting up the mood for any store, restaurant, bar or base around the server. A big bonus is allowing players to play custom URLs, so any player can make a 'mixtape' of sorts to play on their radio.

This option would be Admin/SA dependent however, since players wouldn't be allowed to spawn said radio nor input the custom URL themselves (since they don't got access to the tool itself)

I can tell you from personal preference that these radios do wonders at setting moods and I've seen them work in a few HL2RP servers. - Was one of the main attractions to my bar at the time was the taste in music I played - If you're curious you can listen to the >Keith's Bar Mixtape here.<

2. - Better Quality Radios
This isn't so much as adding a new addon to the mix but requesting more kinds of radios be made available to both loyalists and non-loyalists as the selection is currently very limited and....without wanting to sound too harsh, boring.

It'd give players on both sides of the 'Citizen' faction spectrum more choices to suit their taste in music and set up a good ambience to the place.

This of course is sadly the more work intensive of the two options, even though I am aware option 1. may need it's code reworked. - But that is up for the developers to decide on which they'd rather work on, if any at all.

What do you think?

That addon was already suggested and was denied.

One of the reasons why we don't want to give players the ability to stream songs from a URL is mainly because of how much of an ongoing challenge it is to moderate if people decide they wanna just troll and play ear-rape.

Another reason is that people will play songs that were recorded after the Black Mesa Incident which happened in 2003. I took a quick listen and your mixtape was playing Feed Good Inc. by the Gorillaz which is a great song but it was released well after shit hit the fan. Even the sign outside Keith's is using like a modern flat design style bull mascot that looks like it was made in 2015 on Adobe Illustrator lmao.

So it's infinitely more difficult to control lore consistency when you give virtually everyone, including people on the lower end of the staff team the ability stream whatever music they want and to put up panel signs that look way too modern for our setting.

---

That said, I can definitely add more songs to the playlists of the current radios. Its just a matter of me throwing said files to Atle for him to update the content pack and the radio config file with.

Please add more songs to the current radios, they work just fine for that purpose.

I've seen the argument against stream radios and I do agree with the flaws.

From the code being a mess that can cause performance issues, to the issues with actually moderating said radios, and also remaining within lore. - I can't say much about coding since I am a complete amateur when it comes to that, but I can see ways to actually *moderate* what songs are made available and playable etc.

But focusing on actual options - If we don't get stream radios, I'd imagine it'd be possible for at least adding more variety in existing radios, like say a rock radio, jazz radio and so on. I'd be happy to help find good songs that fit within the lore specifically before the black mesa event and so on for said radios if needed.

Edit:
Yes - The whole mixtape I had was also different considering the current time in that server was a few years ahead and the actual incident had happened a bit further, if I'm correct...though to be honest I don't think folk cared too much on that server if the music was in-lore standards or not, so I made that mixtape with songs that I felt fit the bar.

As for the logo, if there *IS* an issue with it... I can always make the sign look more weathered or painted, might be a challenge but it IS possible. I've made sure to make menus look like they're made from paper and so on.

There's the Counterculture Radio which plays classic rock from the mid 60s to early 70s and there's also the Synth radio that plays synthpop from the 80s, but those are more rebel related. We could see about adding more genre radios or perhaps more songs to the current ones.

Yeah, that's the thing, only semi decent ones are considered counterculture. - I'd wager adding some jazz radios or anything other than the constant drone of classical music or just "patriotic" ensemble would do wonders for mine and many other's sanity, for those wanting to play a regular civvie/loyalist.

Hence why I was suggesting a wider variety of radios cause the two current options are so similar they've become basically white noise now.

I’ll see about adding more lad.

Already a denied suggestion on this
