This shit is tiresome.
You have the Legislative Assembly bomb, the constant RDC bombings, and now at 3am some admin rebel blows up the clinic. All this does is cripple rebelrp and loyalistrp for the sake of admins who don't want to create a legit rebel character wanting edgy terrorist events. Do I need to say anymore?

Post 🦀 in replies to petition shitty admin rebels. Blessed be.

And yes this is serious, and no I will not "write a better complaint"
no textwall is needed, any with a moral compass knows that admin rebels are cringe and cringepilled

Just to add: events that actually generate support for the resistance would be well welcomed, bombing the place we get food from just seems ill thought-out. It doesn't really hurt the combine at all, it's the citizens who are going hungry and the citizens who are having to rebuild it.

On that topic I wish both sides tried a bit harder to garner support. Had work cycles steal your food during the searches then give you less food as a reward like damn. You'd think they'd encourage collaboration, stealing our food just incites more resistance and I know it's supposed to be oppressive but I don't think they're supposed to come off as inept.

well-placed Semtex will do the job.
I believe that is the exact same thing as C4. Semtex = plastic explosive.
See: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TNT_equivalent#Relative_effectiveness_factor

1% difference in RE which will basically be negligible. Also Semtex is PETN, whereas C-4 is RDX. In pure form both are also roughly just as powerful (RE of 1.6 & 1.66).

You want bigger bangs out of your brick, you are better off looking at new exotic explosives like ONC & OAC which have much higher explosion velocities, double to triple the RE and a much higher density (so if we compare by volume you can get 5-6 times the TNT equivalent out of the same-sized brick). The only iffy bit is that currently in real-life neither of these have been produced in sufficient quantities to have had any real practical tests (read: only made small amounts in laboratories to estimate basic properties/effectiveness).

That aside, it'd be much easier to just use a suitcase-sized bomb instead and fill it with shit you can easily make. Read: TATP. Only 0.8 RE but that doesn't matter if you produce it in bulk. To quote wikipedia: "TATP is attractive to terrorists because it is easily prepared from readily available retail ingredients, such as hair bleach and nail polish remover.[48] It was also able to evade detection because it is one of the few high explosives that do not contain nitrogen, and could therefore pass undetected through standard explosive detection scanners, which were hitherto designed to detect nitrogenous explosives."
Only downside is that that shit is sensitive (it is a primary explosive, not a secondary) so it will go boom if you mishandle it, unlike C4/Semtex.

Also you'd need big bombs to cause structural damage, but that usually isn't the goal as it'd be ineffective. Smaller bombs can be just as nasty with killing and wounding.

Sorry, people being unable to use explosives in a realistic manner ticks me off. Maybe some people reading this thread actually learn a thing.

Listen I agree with you on the bombing events - they are rather un-creative and boring when it happens every few days.

I have more of an issue with rebels having their balls tucked up so far that they have replaced their brains. Talking from a player standpoint, because I was just a player for a long time, rebels are far too scared to do anything progressive regarding anything. You can give incentives and everything you want, but most will value what they got over what they will gain.

No rebel gives a fuck about a message or fighting back against the Combine - it is basically grub hours on Willard with every rebel group doing the least amount possible and expecting the most in return. Do I necessarily blame it on the players? Not necessarily as the entire premise of the server values scripts over role-play.

I can agree with whoever said that admins should avoid bias to one particular faction, because there are sure as hell moments that make me question what people's priorities are.

this is completely, and utterly, true

i have seen twice now how the focus on the game-aspects will cause stagnation on the roleplaying parts of a hl2rp community. however, it should also be noted (not to you specifically, NaughtyNicholas, but to people in general) that a simple "shift" in focus or priorities can lead to similarly bad if not worse problems.

the script-focus of servers like this is reciprocal: players focus on the scripts because the server's structure focuses on the scripts, and vice-versa. radically overhauling things to "undo" this focus, e.g. by making weaponry more available and intrinsically mean less as a consequence, player mindsets will not catch up. in the best case, they will at some point, but in the worst case, people will see a shitshow ensue in which trigger-happy gun nut players run up to combine players, kill them, loot their corpses, and distribute the "wealth" among their friends -- similarly trigger-happy gun nuts who will continue this process ad infinitum.

Sure, you could ban those players, but the mindset is deeply baked into the culture now. People get a weapon and ammo and think "economy, value, must keep" rather than "weapon, bargaining chip, should use". Instead of using their weapons to enhance the roleplay -- say, by being an active threat to others (in this context: the regime) -- they hide in the sewers to make sure their virtual wealth stockpile will never be endangered.

Tangent incoming so I'm going to spoiler it:

i like to wax on a lot about the mindsets of other servers, but I think there's a lot of very valid takeaways when you look at the way other roleplaying communities behave, act, and propagate roleplay among themselves:

I've had a ~two-year long tenure on TacoNBanana, and while I'm sure the server is pseudo-affectionately memed out of the ass, I don't really care for it: What I witnessed there was a community much more mature than the average helix-clockwork-nutscript server population would allow. Rebels intermingled in the citizenry, wearing masks and hiding their identities thoroughly to make sure they wouldn't be caught, changing their character names (there was no recognition system in place, but I don't believe that's a bad thing; simply don't metagame) to pseudonyms and nicknames to avoid being identified IC or in a meta-gamed manner.

More pertinently, however, weapons did not require ammunition. Instead, a weapon had effectively infinite ammo, and was more a tool to enhance the roleplay rather than a means of ensuring your superiority. Sure, you still died if people mowed you down with some bullets, but the guns were tuned in a manner to ensure that the gunplay was decently satisfying while also keeping weapons in a certain loop to avoid a 'script-greed' scenario.

The players on TnB were, generally, mature enough to keep this cycle in tact. Weapons were fine-tuned and drops were adjusted to ensure there was a steady flow in and out of the world when it came to weapons. Players used their weapons, too, in roleplay: There were gunfights, melee encounters, and large raids on buildings in which shots were fired, people were beaten down, and people scarcely complained unless the fight became a shitshow through other factors.

If one community of roleplayers can shed this constant want for more "wealth" -- wealth that is ultimately less valuable than the actual credits you use to buy food from a business owner in Victory street -- why can't another? I think there's a fundamental flaw within the mindsets of roleplayers in servers like this, but I couldn't tell you how to fix it.

its not as negligible as one might suggest, (granted they are pretty similar, so mechanically making one very slightly more powerful would be a hassle so i accept that). The reason i picked Semtex as an example is because a shitton of it was made, and A LOT went missing (something like 200 tonnes of the stuff, hence why it was feasible that it could circle back into rebel hands)

the only issues you face with explosives with a higher RE number is that they are typically (again not all), unstable. so unless a rebel had a way to store said chemicals safely, they might end up morphing into a smoking crater.

i avoided TATP because then you fall into the trap of people producing explosives very very easily which isn't the goal here, and if people REALLY wanted to make a bomb with relative ease, arguably more easily than TATP, you go for a Benzene derivative or a shitton of ammonium nitrate with a primer.

As for needing big bombs, it really depends, if you can get access to a buildings foundations and you use HI explosives in shaped charges, you can get rid of a building rather quickly.

Another option is a Blevvy, which are terrifyingly effective, (see Harrods IRA bombing)

but yea, realisitc explosives would be very nice, i thing we are saying the same thing but in a different manner :)

He did a real fine job at that but he dropped a set of rules that seems to have caused more arguments than they have prevented when he got promoted. Seems to be so to me at least.
he wasn't perfect but no one is, he did a very good job, but equally I've never liked admins who side with a group on a server, if it was necessary for him to do so then i can't say much against that, its just the principle that an impartial entity is not really impartial.

A lot of people don't realise that TnB had the same exact script concerns as any other big community did, and it was only because the community collectively kicked it (for the most) that anything changed at all, funnily enough.

TnB works because it is a fairly isolated community that hasn't changed much (in a sense) from a decade ago. The same people are pushing the same ideals. TnB has no problems in banning people who come on and push the wrong mentality, or the community itself scrubs them out. That isn't seen as a bad thing.

The other problem is TnBers don't want to play anywhere else and are happy to sit at 30 players without a fuss. Most communities players will go elsewhere and consider 30 anaemic.

This I didn't know, so thanks for the info!

That does kind of break apart my entire argument, but I think in that case that if one community has kicked the sloth and greed away, that another can do the same. Granted, I haven't been on TnB since the big bang, but the short tenure I had there showed that people were, at the very least, partially open to change, and generally much more mature (particularly in the terms of roleplaying; but I might have just seen the best of it and didn't expose myself to everything consistently).

whether they can or can't get their hands on explosives is irrelevant -- bombing things all day has an evident effect on the core player group (citizens) and doesn't actually offer them any way to sympathize with the resistance

all in all, attacks like this just serve to alienate the "revolutionaries" from citizens. who the hell wants to join forces with the guy that just blew up your one core means of accessing daily foodstuffs? sure, they can preach "but they're oppressive" all you'd see is fighting a fight where you most definitely will die for a chance at freedom. if i had the choice between risking my life, well-being, and sanity for freedom, or continuing the rigmarole of getting at least a meal that stops me from starving to death -- on top of staying in favor with the powers-that-be -- i'd pick the latter option

furthermore, bombings are among the lowest effort forms of 'generating things to happen': rob a store, hijack vending machines or perform minor vandalism, do a 'bleeding heart' type operation and try getting sympathy for the cause by actually being sympathetic, instead.

i've seen people do very creative things as resistance members, such as hiding countless flyers in oildrums and using those to covertly bring them to high-up positions to disperse them across the city -- all the flyers were filled with anti-Combine rhetoric, calls to action, and even compromised identities iirc

THAT makes for interesting actions, consequences, and events, imo. shooty-shooty-blowy-uppy gets stale after the first time.
"wow these heroes gave their lives to destroy one of our main food suppliers in the middle of a massive food crisis, I sure want to join them now"

The true blackpill is realising that no matter what you do or do not do (as either a Combine player or a rebel one) you're not going to sway anybody IC who doesn't want to be swayed OOC.

So yeah, while bombings and all of this stuff are nonsensical, the simple truth is a lot of the more 'passive' things - while great for roleplay - aren't really going to hit hard on WN.

I'm surprised no one has ever tried to bomb (or otherwise sabotage) the train station. Of course it's the spawn area and it's always in an IC/OOC kind of grey area, but in reality crippling a Combine infrastructure hub would make more sense than any of the bombing events or player attacks I've seen so far in the server, especially now.
I feel it would be perfect target since the perceived damage to the Combine (both in server and off server like in these Dark Events stuff) would be real, but it's so out of the way no one can really say it would ruin their roleplay to see a few debris props around the spawn area.

Bombing events have been banned as of now until this can be discussed by the CM's.

Alternative resistance events should be applied.

Resistance Hacking into a broadcast to post their propaganda is possibly more preferable than having this shitstorm that ruins citizenrp

An admin noclipped into the Nexus yesterday and killed an Ordinal when he was the only OTA online, meaning that the admin rebel really took advantage of this to flex his little noclip and invincibility powers. It's important to note that this admin rebel never roleplayed. He just noclipped into the Nexus and killed an Ordinal, then somehow magically escaped the Nexus and fled to the sewers.

The reason I know all of this is because I saw the whole thing occur from a Dispatch viewpoint, meaning that while I was on my Disp-AI character, I never saw the admin rebel legitimately enter the Nexus. I had eyes on the Nexus courtyard the whole time, then all of the sudden, an Ordinal dies. I never saw him leave, either, even though I was still there.

The excuse for noclipping into the Nexus was that "the doors were open IC," despite the fact that they automatically close. This begs the question that if the doors are "open IC," then why isn't it infested with a bunch of citizens? It makes no sense. The "doors were open IC" excuse is simply, well, an excuse to cover up blatant abuse of power.

Not gonna lie, it's killing more roleplay than it is promoting it.

Let's just call it like it is. Admin abuse. Whoever did this abused their power to senselessly kill CP and OTA units (he did kill CP units, by the way. Managed to sneak into the city with his pal and start shooting) and essentially killed RP in the process. It wasn't fun, and I rewarded the participating CP units for their troubles.

Not possible, OCIN uses the finest quantum planar trans dimensional inter-matrix semi-detatched everybuzzwordever encryption. Certain individuals get very upset the moment someone thinks about interacting with OCIN.

maybe by completely obfuscating every avenue for rebel rp (cameras everywhere, all knowing AI, et cetera) the server is actively harming the development and emergence of rebel rp as a whole

This is something me and the cop leads have wanted to decrease to a degree. Expect camera positions to shift, and camera's in the nexus to actually be physical entities. the amount of times we've busted units being naughty in a room because 'there would be camera's ICly here!!!' is baffling.

Though if I'm honest, aside from PCS-3, rebels don't have much of an avenue to roleplay their rebellion secretly when it comes to areas outside the slums and sewers.
