A Pigeon's Cage
BmfQAmK.png

__________________________________________________________________

A pigeon grasped by pestilence
Is raised by guiding, gentle hand.
And even as the pigeon healed,
The hand laid its perverse command:

To be what it demands you be,
And sing what you cannot.

As other creatures flocked and flew
The pigeon learned to sit and stew
And think of all the time he'd dashed,
While flinching at the scalpel's slash.

While other creatures live and love,
And pass their wisdom through the years,
The pigeon will be childless,
And drown in salty tears

The guiding hand will smash their eggs
and shape them into formless clay.
And scorch them in their blazing kiln,
to keep their loving hearts at bay

and make them sing like parrots.

I would like to thank whoever was playing a bird character on the roof of the slums not too long ago while my character was there for inspiring me to make this poem. :)
